It's only July 4. And you have to start somewhere. If PDA's approach is to build around Cousins, then Vasquez actually makes sense. Those elite teams didn't come together in a big bang. They were built, just like our team back in the day. This ain't for the faint of heart. It's gonna be a helluva ride this summer. I'm gonna hold on and enjoy every second. At least we've got things to talk about, unlike prior years when draft day pretty much signaled the end of the Kings involvement in the off-season.

1. The team was in Seattle.

I can picture it now though...We're in the playoffs. Game 7 of the first round. Down 1 with the ball, 12 seconds to go. Brutal, grind it out playoff basketball. The opponent is in lockdown defense mode. 10 seconds on the clock. 8 seconds. We need a basket to stay alive. One shot. 6 seconds. Vasquez 'facilitates' a perfect pass to a wide open John Salmons in the corner for a three.
Airball. Missed by a foot. Total brick. We lose.
But here's the twist...we're all thrilled. Because that pass was so glorious. We can barely contain ourselves. I mean...the lack of 'tunnel vision' is astounding. Who cares about the shot. We got the pass! I can't wait to see it again on SportsCenter.

There's just so many other opportunities to get roleplayers out there this offseason, I don't know why you would waste tradig a star to land a bundle of them.

This was bad when we were getting Lopez, it's downright ridiculous if we're giving up Reke for Vazquez. This is how losing franchises stay losers.
I think this might be a signal the FO wants to start completely fresh. Lose DMC in a season because he won't stay on a bad team, and start hoping for the lottery again so we can get a couple talents like Reke ad Counsins again...

Perhaps it is true that Tyreke does not help a team win. Certainly we have done very little winning since Tyreke has been around, though I do kind of doubt that the entire blame can be placed on Tyreke's shoulders given the rosters he has played with and the "coaches" he has played under.
But Tyreke's get-to-the-basket ability is absolutely, positively NOTHING RESEMBLING "dime-a-dozen". That part of his game is arguably better than most of the league's stars.

It's hard to tell at this point. This guy writes for the Oregonian so he is either speculating or has contacts within the Blazers organization that are telling him that the deal is being discussed and that if it goes down the Blazers give up nothing. I hope it's just speculation because the Kings should be getting at least a 2nd round pick from Blazers if not more.
Problem is that Tyreke Evans is not a star. He's just not. He's been in the league four years and his numbers have gotten worse and his team doesn't win. Is that what star players do? Only a percentage of Kings fans view him as a star but the average informed NBA fan just views him as a good player. Nothing wrong with that and it's good to have good players but this notion that Tyreke Evans is a star or could still turn into a star is just false.

I like Evans and would love to see him stay here at the Kings. He has star potential, but he has never managed to live up to that potential. He's been in the league four years now and his PPG, RPG and APG have gone down with each passing year. Granted he's coming off his best field goal and three point percentage of his career, but as it stands last season he was not any better than Vasquez. While Evans averaged just over one point better, Vasquez contributed 5.5 more assists. So take your pick on a better scorer or facilitator, but Evans is only edging Vasquez in scoring now...
Vasquez might not be a star point guard, but did the Kobe's Lakers have a great PG? Not really. How about the Miami Heat? Nope. Granted the Spurs had Parker in three of their title winning teams, but generally great teams have been successful with decent point guards, and Evans has yet to prove he can do that. I think Vasquez could fit the role of a decent PG.
Pairing Vasquez and McLemore could be a potent backcourt. If Vasquez brings his assists, and hopefully improves on them stats,then he should help get the ball to McLemore so he can down some easy baskets, and definitely from three point range. His game could also help Cousins as well. For me, he'll be a very good addition if it happens.

If we have cap space we can pursue one or two star forwarda this season or next season in free agency. For me, Cousins is the better player and has more potential. We should make him our main man and use the cap space to bring in a SF and PF that can bring the missing parts to this team. Well that's a circular argument if I've ever seen one. We've been playing Isaiah Thomas at point and asking Tyreke to guard SFs. Put in two real defenders alongside him in the backcourt and I guarantee you we get a lot better defensively. And you haven't even addressed the fact that the guy we're replacing him with, the guy who makes his teammates better, is one of the worst defensive guards in the league. The trade-off on offense is hardly worth tanking the defense especially when we could have improved our team a lot more by fixing what was truly broken. Speaking of making your teammates better, wouldn't you rather have a backline that denies penetration and forces turnovers instead of relying on some as yet unnamed master shotblocker to clean up the mess on every possession? You want Cousins to stay on the floor? Stop allowing free trips into the lane with him as the last line of defense! He's actually pretty good as a man-to-man post defender. It's the dribble-penetration which is eating us up night in and night out.

It's not Reke for Vasquez... it's Reke for Vasquez plus about $9mil in cap space. That money will be spent... wait and see what it's spent on before deciding.

Maybe, just maybe, as I stated in another post, they didn't want Tyreke back. Maybe they never intended to resign him, but for obvious reasons couldn't say that. Maybe, they have a plan. A couple of weeks ago everyone on the fourm thought Malone, D'Allesandro, and Ranadive were the smartest people in the world, and now, 4 miserable days into freeagency, apparently their all just stupid idiots, and everyone here, is smarter! I'll pass judgement after freeagency is over, and the team were going forward for the season is complete.
As much as I like Tyreke, the world isn't going to end because he's gone. We didn't exactly dominate last year with him. Not laying all than on him, but the point is, he didn't make that much of a difference. No one did! Were breaking up a team thats only been capable of winning 25 or so games for the last few years, and everyone thinks the world is ending. Someone pointed out that every good team has at least two stars. Well, if you consider both Cousins and Tyreke stars, what the hell went wrong? The truth is, last year we stunk!! And on a team that stunk, no one is sacred! Except maybe Cousins, who I believe is a legit star.
I wish Tyreke all the best in the world. I wish it could have worked out for him here. But I've said from the beginning that I didn't think he'd be back. I hoped he would, but my gut told me otherwise. Its done, and I'm moving on. I could sit here and whine about it for the next few weeks, but you know what, the result will still be the same. He'll still be gone!
No, but trading Evans for Vazquez is essentially letting him walk for nothing. Vazquez is a dime a dozen roleplayer, we could have let Reke walked and signed the same guy. Losing franchises let potential stars go and replace with mid priced roleplayers. At least before we were getting a big back. I didn't like the trade then, but now we're just letting him wal and helping the Pelicans balance their roster in the same stroke. Similar to how we used to help teams avoid the lux tax by taking on their players at the end of the year for cash considerations.

I can agree with that to some degree, but the post I questioned was the one you called out the franchise as a future loser because we didnt get Lopez as well.
The Kings have never ever signed a star. We won't sign a star. We'll spend it on a bunch of mid priced role players like Chuck Hayes, Mikki More, John Salmons etc. The cap space does absolutely nothing for a small market team based in Sacramento. If we're committing to moving on I'd hope we at least scored some draft choices, because we're going to need to reload through the draft in a year or so when we lose Cousins.

While Evans might help them progress, an argument could be made that Vasquez can help us progress. As of last season Vasquez was the better point guard. He's got better each year, Evans has not. If Vasquez can continue to develop his game he could end up doing more for this team next season than Evans has in the past four.
Yah I just wasn't clear, and more annoyed because at least Lopez is a serviceable big who defends. Those are at least sort of tough to find. It felt like a bad trade but not a give away. No Lopez feels like a give away to me.
