Kings trade Landry to Hornets......

I've seen a ton of hornet games, being a hornet fan, so I am well aware of Thornton's game. This premise that he's a red carpet needs to be dropped, seeing as the kings players right now aren't any better. Did you watch them tonight? Absolutely pathetic defense, especially in transition. So, if you don't have any above average defenders, you might as well have some that can go off for 20-30 points. Plus defense can be learned and improved.

Second, he's a black hole because he's a scorer, not a playmaker. And the kings just happened to need a guy who can score both from the long ball and attack the rim, which he can do. With Evans out, they also need somebody who can make things happen, because their backcourt looks horrible with Beno/Taylor, Pooh/Head. Total trash.

This doesn't make any sense from NOLA's perspective. It sets their team back and I honestly don't know wtf they were thinking. Kings trade a frontcourt rental for a backcourt rental, just what they need. So yeah, one-sided IMO.

I think the most recent version said that Anderson was dropped from the trade and now its just Thornton and cash.

Actually that cash is kind of interesting isn't it? The NBa now owns that team, so in essence if you are getting cahsback in a deal with that team, aren't you basically getting a cash gift from the NBA?

One possible angle is that having Landry in the mix down in NOLA is a means of posturing ahead of David West's looming free agency. Maybe it's their way of saying to West's people that, hey, we have a backup plan with a guy who does a lot of the same stuff you do and will probably come a lot cheaper during the offseason.
 
This is as exciting as watching two fat 80 year olds making love. I've never seen him play but from what I have read he is described as a slasher and not a shooter. And don't forget another useless 7 footer in the deal. I guess we needed a guard real bad and quality was not the issue as long as he was breathing. Now we will lose by 10 and not 15 by being totally embarrased at the guard position. Is Cisco going to play ever. He's a shooting guard.

There must be some method to this madness or perhaps he was doing Landry a favor.

Ahhhh, I've got it. The cash is $100 mil and the arena breaks ground next fall.

So I just read through the Hornets SBNation forum, and let me tell you, they think they got robbed. Most love Thornton, his potential, think he was an absolute steal, and don't think they got enough in return. Not happy at all in NO.

I don't see how that puts any pressure on west, considering:

- That would only work of Landry was under contract. He might bolt too.
- West is a far better player at this point.
- West has already made it known what he wants, and has already ended talks with the hornets on an extension. Getting another "replacement" isn't going to change his mind if he shut it down prior to this deal even going through.

Well he chucked up over 300 3ptrs last year, and has shot them at 37-38% over his short career, so while I wouldn't call him pure, he's far from just a slasher. For comparison Manu is a career .373 shooter.

Not exactly a trade to get excited over but it's exactly the type of trade I expected if there was going to be any at all. Hopefully this guy's shooting doesn't follow recent history and go in the tank the minute the becomes a King.
 
I'm going to hold judgement on this deal just yet. Thornton is an explosive scorer. I still remember our last game against NO when even Tyreke Evans couldn't guard him. Plus he can shoot which we are sorely lacking. Too bad we can't see him and Tyreke play together. As someone mentioned earlier, he does remind a little of Rashard Mcants though.
 
This is a good deal considering the fact that nobody wants to take on any outlandish contracts for scorers around here, just what does anybody expect to get in return for Landrys ender if the front office doesn't want to add hefty contracts? We could of easily dumped him off somewhere for cash and a draft pick, but instead we take on a second year swing man who just might be able to help out our stagnant offense or our lack of a consistent 3 ball. All things considered it's a good deal, if he comes in hungry ready to prove himself by showing off his skills we could end up having a nice young player on our hands. If not? Well we got all that cap room and a nice draft slot to look forward to this off season. Good trade.
 
do you think with this trade and we don't get lucky and get Irving Petrie goes Enes Kanter or Derrick Williams? or still Terrence Jones, Kemba Walker or Harrison Barnes?
 
Can we all remember that he is 23 years old? He isnt a finished product and he is already better than every healthy guard on this roster not named Beno Udrih. Im not saying he is the best thing since sliced bread, Im just saying that this is not a bad trade. And we have made plenty of bad trades in the past... I have no problem criticizing Petrie ( For example, I hated the trade that landed us Nocioni ) but this deal is nothing to really complain about.

This. I guess people are disappointed because they were expecting some outlandish Landry+Head for Danny Granger and change deal but honestly that was never going to happen unless we were sending back Reke or Boogie in return

Agree with you that he's not a finished product. I do think he is easily our best guard on the roster with Evans out. Yes even better than Beno.
 
This team is really as good as we could have hoped for!

Landry is a good 6th man who was surplus to our needs. He can score but thats about it. We have an embarassment of riches in the frontcourt so Landry was a bit of a surplus and most likely to be dealt. What we are in desperate need of is some shooting and backcourt depth!

Is Thornton a perfect fit?! No! He does have his deficiencies but he is a scorer and he can create his own shot! Something we desperately need in the back court.

He needs to improve defensively and not be as much of a chuker has he has been to date BUT, provided he can get his D up to a reasonable level, he has the potential to be a really DYNAMIC scoring guard off the bench for us. And if things work out, he could be around for some time.

How often do we wish that we would get a spark off the bench?! Well here is a guy who is more than capable of scoring in bunches off the bench. He might even get a chance to start and score as much as he wants in the next 3 weeks.

He is young and the sort of player that we could do with. We were not going to keep Landry and quite frankly with his expiring contract we were not going to get a heck of a lot in return. So many people around here would prefer for us to give up 20 cents to someone else for a $1. It doesn't work that way.

I am a bit of an optimist and think that Thornton could be our 6th man, scoring type of the bench for years to come.

well, to put things into perspective...i just played as the hornets in 2k11 and Thornton ended up with 52 pts, 18-43 fg, 16-40 3 pt.... 5 minute quarters.Hal of Fame difficulty. I think those are pretty good figures haha ;) He can shoot the lights out..And yes..I am using a video game as the main source of my analysis.
 
People who say our capspace is useless cause "no big name free agents will sign here" are really ignorant and are ignoring the fact that we can use that capspace to absorb contracts in players coming in via trade.

Update regarding Kings-N.O. trade: source says Andersen fell out of talks late. Deal is Marcus Thornton and cash to Sacto for Carl Landry.

Kind of hard to sign a guy who just signed a contract extension for the next 5 years.
