Kings trade Landry to Hornets......

Apparently it was:

Sammy to the Rockets
Hill, Budinger, Casspi, 2011 Kings 1st Pick to the Jazz
DWill to the Kings

Rockets apparently assumed the deal was as good as made. We were THAT close to DWill/Reke/Cuz
I am extremely skeptical of this being a legitimate possibilty. I could see it having been an offer to the Jazz, but I doubt they were going to take it.

Williams would not have worked. Not only would he have bolted from sac as quickly as possible, he wouldn't be a good fit with Evans because both guys need the basketball and Deron isn't going to share the basketball anyway.

I highly doubt that was the deal that was going to go down. That's clearly not enough when you look at what NJ had to give up.
Well, that probably explains why he's going to NJ. Considering even with DWill our pick would still be top 7, maybe the Jazz were willing to pull the trigger, but then NJ trumped the offer.

I think the most recent version said that Anderson was dropped from the trade and now its just Thornton and cash.

Actually that cash is kind of interesting isn't it? The NBa now owns that team, so in essence if you are getting cahsback in a deal with that team, aren't you basically getting a cash gift from the NBA?
If true about the cash, maybe it pays off the loan the Maloofs took from the league last year. At least it was reported that when the league offered loans to teams last year, the Kings were one of the teams that was going to take them up on it. Yesterday, in the Bee, they cited a source (Forbes) that says the team lost $9.8 million last year. Not really that hard to see why the Maloofs are looking to move the team and why Anaheim is attractive. Much larger and richer porpulation in Orange County.

The trade has not gone through, correct? The speculated almost trades haven't gone through. It seems like Landry is going but he isn't gone. I just got done scouring the Kings web site and couldn't find anything. It made me think that fans, which we are, are starved for anything other than the status quo.

Are we being premature in all this chatter? I think I'm going to hold off on this subject until something really happens. I don't care if it looks like I am throwing cold water on all of this but the hysteria that gets generated is incredible.

Anyway, continue on. It would be hilarious if the deal didn't go through. Even as it is, the trade is not clear. Anderson? Money? Who knows?

I was hoping for enough money to fill the gap that exists in the amount of money necessary to build an arena.

From his ESPN chat.

What do you know about DWill almost going to the Kings? What was the deal? Why did it fall through?

Heard after the trade Utah was really upset with Deron Williams. Don't know if it's spin or the truth. Feeling was Utah was happy sending him to a bad franchise like New Jersey. Houston was offering their normal collection of garbage, and Sacramento had a chance with a certain package. But ultimately, Utah wanted to put him in the Eastern Conference.

Kings and Hornets, I'm told, have finalized trade sending Carl Landry to New Orleans for Marcus Thornton and cash. Will be announced soon

So ... we traded Kevin Martin for the PF of Kevin Martins, and then traded the PF of Kevin Martins for a lesser version of the SG of the PF of Kevin Martins. Hey guys guess what we just traded Kevin Martin for noob, cheaper Kevin Martin!
And a heck of a lot of capspace!
Exactly. We saved $36 million by moving Kevin Martin. Would have been nice to see Landry play a role on a potential playoff team, but it's just not the right environment for him to thrive. So we trade him before he's just an expiring contract. Hopefully we have rights to retain Thornton, and he turns out to be a legitimate scoring option.

wow i hope this was not the case. getting d-will without having to give up cousins or evans would be a dream come true for most. what the jazz get isnt too far off of what they got from the nets. hill, budinger, casspi, and kings first rounder is basically 4 first round picks with the kings pick probably being a high pick. harris is having an off year, favors hasnt lived up to expectation (yet), and the gets 2012 pick they got from the warriors is top 7 protected. but overall if harris bounces back and favors lives up to expectations, i understand why the jazz went with the nets

While I doubt yet another major player moves at the deadline, that Nets deal looks approachable if we actually wanted Granger. Our #1 = Favors. The question being how to make up for Harris.

If The Kings move to Anaheim, then we should all be thanking our lucky stars that they didn't get Williams. Unless of course the idea of OC fans getting an Evans/Cousins/Williams trio that should be ours does something for you. personally, the very idea makes me sick to my stomach. It will be bad enough losing Evan and Cousins but throw in a star PG in his prime and it's even worse! Of course, if they don't move, then yeah...that sucks that they didn't get him.

I think we didn't get Williams, we got Thornton. It looks like it is official now. With the $3 million I now expect to get good sturdy wrappers with my Kings Dogs. Also, they might be able to replace some of the burnt out outside light bulbs.

Looking forward to seeing Thornton play. Sounds like for what he is he is sound. He can't hurt our defense unless he goes in for Tyreke. Go Kings.

Back on the topic of the trade, while I've been hoping for a Doug Christie like player to pair with Tyreke (good length and defense, solid ball handling and passing, ability to hit open shots, role player mentality) it seems like Thorton is a lot like another former King from the halcyon days of post seasons past - Bobby Jackson.

High energy, aggressive scoring mentality, surprising rebounding ability.

If we had a good coach, that would be phenomenal. Reke/Granger/Cousins + four auxiliary players, whoever they are, would be enough for us to compete.
