[News] Kings trade Jonas to Denver for Saric

Val is still a starting C but teams don't respect the skill set in the NBA sadly for him, I'm not shocked he went elsewhere to start, it's still a win for Denver they got rid of Saric and now might have even more money to spend and if Val stays that's great as well , they won a ring without any back up C and DaRon Holmes if healthy should give them a boost anyway.

I feel like while Euro deals are reported post tax they are also reported total $$$ and not per year.

So it looks like the kings traded away JV before they had to do a negotiation for buyout. Got some cap space and a guy they can cut without much loss. Sounds a whole lot like just flat cutting losses to me.
My question is different, if Jonas is doing a "Sasha buyout" buying out his own contract (it wont be Denver waiving him) couldnt this be done when he still was with the Kings? We would have more cap space if so (10mln) and no 5mln+Saric as an asset that nobody wants anyway. We also "help" the Nuggets in that way (creating cap space and MLE) like it is a form of solidarity between the two teams that sacked Malone. And trade is still not official..

You got a great point there and I suppose you’re right, but I don’t really understand the full impact of buyouts on the team that’s losing the player. I guess I was just a little relieved to see that we had not just let him go for Saric and cash, was going to be gone regardless.

Honestly I have no idea how it works either, sometimes after trades teams instantly "waive" a player but i have no clue what happens to their cap space. But it seems that's not what will happen in this case.
Also it's kind of weird that Jonas went to Athens last night to have medical tests though he still has a contract with Nuggets. If it wasn't another NBA team that would be "tampering" now that is a Greek team I guess it's fine?
The irony is that Panathinaikos wanted him since last summer but instead he signed a contract with the Wizards. Don't know why he decided that now is the time to return to Europe or why he signed a 2+1 years contract 12 months ago if he was planning on leaving. The thing with Sasha last year was quite rare (no idea when it happened last time before that) and now it's back again.
News for Jonas to Pana first appeared (in Greece) in 26th of May, so there was plenty of time before the trade to Denver took place.

Ready to wonder why Saric and Eubanks keep playing over IJ and Raynaud all year!

I think Saric is basically this years Crowder. Unless last year was an aberration he’s cooked and won’t see time 10 games in. Eubanks could see time over Max if we need defense but I think Raynaud is too skilled to be kept down for long.

If this is formally official, that makes the Saric/Carter/2nds offer for Kuminga an illegal trade. If we still want Kuminga, it’d have to be a different framework to get the money to match.

If the Kings ever wanted Kuminga it was likely taking a STAR trade package. The Kings really don't have one right now unless they want to ****can their own future for it.

I did the math awhile back, but the number is escaping me right now. Long story short….a DeRozan for Kuminga S&T would require Kuminga to get a VERY HEFTY payday to make the salaries work and thus make the trade legal. And I think most of us would agree that we don’t want Kuminga at some absurd salary level.

It would also put the Warriors really close to the apron. This looks more and more like the Warriors always trying to get Kuminga on a short contract that gives them a little space to wiggle around. If they don't want to go over the apron for Kuminga no way they would for DeMar. If Kuminga for DeMar were possible it would have already been done. The smart play for the Warriors is for them to run it back, see what their nearing 40 year old stars are doing a few months in then figure it out by the deadline. Kuminga on a short, favorable contract could either set them up nice for a rebuild the next season or two or be trade bait for the last piece to go for one last title.

Is Monk or DDR possible?
I mean they are both technically doable because Kuminga’s hypothetical new salary is not decided yet.

I think things are a bit more complicated now compared to when I sat down and did the math awhile ago because we have executed a S&T already which I believe hard caps us at some level.

But setting the hard cap situation aside for a second, trading DeRozan in a S&T would require Kuminga’s 1st year salary to be a minimum of ~$33 mil. Then factor in 8% raises over 4 years…I’ll let you do the rest of the math.

For Monk, I think Kuminga’s 1st year salary would have to be ~$21 mil. Which seems reasonable for Kuminga, but taking back Monk sends them above the apron and complicates their log jam at guard further. Reports I’ve seen also indicate that the Warriors are not interested in Monk.

The Warriors are just super lucky that Kuminga’s agent isn’t the same jerk that De’Aaron Fox employs and that his agent isn’t hellbent on ensuring he ends up in a specific location (other than where he is now). Otherwise it wouldn’t matter what they wanted or what leverage they had.
