[News] Kings trade Jonas to Denver for Saric

Val is still a starting C but teams don't respect the skill set in the NBA sadly for him, I'm not shocked he went elsewhere to start, it's still a win for Denver they got rid of Saric and now might have even more money to spend and if Val stays that's great as well , they won a ring without any back up C and DaRon Holmes if healthy should give them a boost anyway.

I feel like while Euro deals are reported post tax they are also reported total $$$ and not per year.

So it looks like the kings traded away JV before they had to do a negotiation for buyout. Got some cap space and a guy they can cut without much loss. Sounds a whole lot like just flat cutting losses to me.
My question is different, if Jonas is doing a "Sasha buyout" buying out his own contract (it wont be Denver waiving him) couldnt this be done when he still was with the Kings? We would have more cap space if so (10mln) and no 5mln+Saric as an asset that nobody wants anyway. We also "help" the Nuggets in that way (creating cap space and MLE) like it is a form of solidarity between the two teams that sacked Malone. And trade is still not official..

You got a great point there and I suppose you’re right, but I don’t really understand the full impact of buyouts on the team that’s losing the player. I guess I was just a little relieved to see that we had not just let him go for Saric and cash, was going to be gone regardless.

Honestly I have no idea how it works either, sometimes after trades teams instantly "waive" a player but i have no clue what happens to their cap space. But it seems that's not what will happen in this case.
Also it's kind of weird that Jonas went to Athens last night to have medical tests though he still has a contract with Nuggets. If it wasn't another NBA team that would be "tampering" now that is a Greek team I guess it's fine?
The irony is that Panathinaikos wanted him since last summer but instead he signed a contract with the Wizards. Don't know why he decided that now is the time to return to Europe or why he signed a 2+1 years contract 12 months ago if he was planning on leaving. The thing with Sasha last year was quite rare (no idea when it happened last time before that) and now it's back again.
News for Jonas to Pana first appeared (in Greece) in 26th of May, so there was plenty of time before the trade to Denver took place.
