Remember last season the Kings would throw the ball to Chuck Hayes and had him go to work in the post? Remember what a joke that was? Mike Malone probably still had nightmares after watching those tapes. Now instead of Hayes, it's Landry filling that role. That game plan makes lot more sense now doesn't it?
As a starter, Landry isn't. We all know that. But as an off the bench spark playing 20 mins a game, you know, he ain't bad. The Kings are probably paying just a little bit over the market value for him, but 1) it's not my money and 2) we all know Sac needs to pay a premium to get these FAs, even someone just a backup and 3) it's not an egregious amount of money for a big. I did not want Landry, none of us do, but as long as the coaching staff is cognizant that he's not a starter (unlike the previous regime), then I guess it's not that bad a move -it's rarely bad to add a quality big to the team.
What this move also tells me is that:
1) They want to win now (which says a lot the Tyreke trade, they really don't want him. Don't think he can help them win).
2) More moves are coming regarding the jammed PF spots
3) The FO realizes that many players on the roster are not up to par.
All good, imo.

Sometimes you have to make one move, so you can make another. I won't become obvious until the other move is made. Anyone that can't understand that shouldn't play chess. You'll hear checkmate a lot because you didn't pay enough attention to the moves that seemed meaningless.

This is what I see. Not going to be popular. I know people wanted a turnaround. But if this next draft is what people say it is we can potentially get a player of Tyreke's caliber who is a better fit for what we have if we stay in the lotto. Meanwhile make some trades to better round out the roster, hopefully some true veteran leadership.
I don't love or really even like this signing but I think he'll play 2 years and be a trade asset in year 3 or 4 which will also be around the time hopefully everything starts paying dividends.
People were hoping for a year one year like 99 but I think the best case reality is that we are in year zero and perhaps 2014-2015 can be a true breakout season as 99 was, only once we do a full housecleaning.

2nd leading scorer is hardly marginal, even, and especially, with our terrible team in mind.
We were a god awful defensive team because we were bad as a team. There are team defense and 1-on-1 defense. We had good individual who can defense well, like Evans. We didn't defense well as a team. Two different things.
That still remain to be seen. But we know that Evans was the best iso player we had, so there's that.
And that's the most common argument from people on your side. "He wasn't a great play maker and he didn't make his teammates better." We were a team with no solid system (or a solid coach). I doubt you can run a play playing street ball. (You know what I mean... I'm not comparing directly with street ball, just as an analogy for a no-system team)

Its funny. For as hard as it is to get players to want to come to Sacramento.... they seem to love it once they've been here. It truly is a great area to live in and the fans treat the players like...well, like Kings!

Probably won't happen this time either. JT is too valuable with his ability to play both frontline spots. The only way he gets pushed out of his starting role, is because he's traded, or they actually bring in someone better, which isn't likely. The one guy I'd like to see moved is Hayes. Don't know if they can find a buyer though.

Don't get me wrong dude. I loved Evans. I would have loved to keep him. I don't think we got enough value for him in that trade. I just don't think the world is ending because of this.
Pretty much. And I think Landry makes a ton of sense. Veteran. He's in his prime. Crucial part to GSW playoff team last year. Big upgrade to Ppat and JT, thus making them expendable. The ONLY place where he wasn't an incredibly valuable role player was his last stint with us. Where Westphal single handily did his best to destroy every big on the team. And he's coming off a mega-efficient, 6 MOY type season with GSW.

much, in any case, and particularly at this early point in the game, and no, I won't apologize for my opinion.
$6.5 mil is exactly right for Landry. Don't let his last stint with us cloud your judgement
Really how many non rebounding, non defending bigs that average 20 minutes a game deservedly make that money?
Also, 30 year old versions of the above player.

Oh because we had 3 coaches in 4 years and going through ownership and organization transformation? Or because we didn't have the right pieces around him? He wasn't being used the right way? Being jerked around different positions?
I don't understand this line of thinking at all.
If you're a team full of 30 year old vets and are a 40 win team, then yes, you're in purgatory. But the Kings are still an incredibly young roster with plenty of potential to get better. MLM, IT, Cousins, Vasquez etc. I would gladly welcome 40 wins next season as long as we continue to build on it in future years
