Kings shopping Thompson

http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/70063/20101112/kings_have_shopped_thompson/

The Kings have shopped young big man Jason Thompson, according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

Thompson has averaged just 15.4 minutes per game this season with Carl Landry and Darnell Jackson ahead of him on Sacramento's depth chart.

The Suns, Heat and Raptors are all looking for help in their frontcourt and could be fits.

Players I'd like from the teams listed above:

Raptors: Barbosa, R. Evans, Jack, Kleiza,
Heat: Chalmers
Suns: Dragic, Dudley

Players I am interested in from your list of players you are interested in:

None. At least not for JT.

Should be noted though that we had an interest in Kleiza back in the Artest days. Not impossible we might again as that extra shooter we need. If you can call a guy averaging 11pts and .267 from 3pt land a shooter you need. And really, despite the shooter rep, he's only a 34% career 3pt shooter. Should also be noted that he ran away to Europe so he could go play "the man" and only came back over when he thought he was going to walk in and have a starting job, lots of shots, and major minutes all sewn up in Toronto. IN a prsuemd Jason trade he would still walk in on a team with Cisco, Omri and Donte on it, and its hard to imagine him getting those big minutes free and clear. So would we have an unhappy player on our hands? It would be like back to Denver for him, except with less wins.

I would like to have Dragic. Unfortunately, it looks like Phoenix might be more willing to retain him and lose Nash according to my sources which to me is a better fit for the Kings-veteran presence and someone who can coach inside the game when the coaching staff are failing. I will also take Barbosa for Thompson only if we are also losing the defensive liability Beno.

we are reaching there.. i'd rather keep JT than bring any of those guys in.

JT for Marcus Thornton..... would make sense for both teams

seriously?

6'11 big man for a 6'4 2 guard?

Kleiza is not playing tonight and he's a big forward, just like people killed us in last games (Randolph and Beasley).
JT for Kleiza? Not a bad trade.

Given how bad Kleiza has been thus far, who knows.

They are however threatening to beat the Magic tonight without him, which would goa long way to clearing us from having the most embarrasing loss of the week.

While I wouldnt be upset if we traded JT, I'd much rather see Landry go. More Value, Last year of a contract, really cheap for the talent .. Great pickup for a contender that alot of teams can afford.

I dont want Linus Kleiza. If thats our best option we should just keep JT and start playing Donte.

Long Term, JT is a very good backup big who can play center and power forward. Long term Landry is a much more expensive undersized scoring big off the bench. When you consider the fact that Dalembert, Landry, and Jackson are all free agents after this season I can see JT being more valuable next year than this year.

The easy solution for the problem would be just sending Landry to the bench, but coach is in love with him. I also think he is trying to prove Landry IS a starting PF to try and justify the Kevin Martin trade, which is looking like a win for Houston right now.

Stephen Jackson is being shopped....

...with good reason. ;)

Also too old for our squad, and not exactly the influence you want on a bunch of kids. Hey guys, let's all celebrate Boogie's 21st by getting hammered down at the local strip club! Your bring the 100s for the ladies, I'll bring the pistolas. Woot!

how about shop both....get a big in return as well a wing.

A potential Landry-Thompson trade bait can land some talent.

We need Tayshaun Prince. He's a long defender who is a classy veteran and hits spot up 3 pointers.

We could just send a 2nd rounder to Detroit for Prince and 3 million cash. No need to give up an asset like THompson. The Pistons would LOVE to shed Tay's deal.

I know Boston needs an active big who can play big minutes when needed. With both O'Neils in and out of the lineup, and Perk out till at least December, they could use an active, energetic, full size big man.

Lucky for us they actually have a young player who can help this team. Avery Bradley. I really liked him last year for texas. He is kind of a Combo guard in the mold of a Delonte West or even Beno Udrih, but thats exactly what we want next to Reke right? He is a fantastic defender though and good deep shooter. I mentioned in the draft thread how I thought he'd be a great fit with Evans.

I know Boston really likes him, but they signed up Nate for 2 years, Rondo is under contract for a while, and if Delonte plays like Delonte, I dont see why they wouldnt sign him again. He is going to struggle to find playing time on that team, were Thompson could come in and help right away.

Avery Bradley would be pretty sweet, I think they will take Landry for him. Boston needs scoring at times when they go to the bench, and Bradley is never going to play with Rondo and Nate Rob being there. I would like to trade JT for Xavier Henry if we can, dont know if Memphis will do that but I really like him as a fit next to Reke.

Wow I think that sort of deal has a lot of legs to it. It seems like a brilliant fit actually. Good idea man!

I like Bradley. I never thought that Texas really used him properly. He's a top notch defender who, while a little undersized at 6'3", has very long arms and is a terrific athlete. You could easily play him with Tryeke and let Bradley guard the other teams pt guard. I don't know if Bradley is equal value for Thompson at this point though. There were times last year when I thought Bradley had star potential. He just never had a chance to really shine.

You gotta be kidding me right? Seriously, is that some kind of joke? lol

2nd rounder and 3 million cash for Tayshaun Prince? A proven veteran with NBA tittle under his belt whos a great defender and spot shooter and still not old (not sure but I think hes 29 or 30)... it would take A LOT more than that to get him...

Either Landry, Greene or Thompson and a lottery protected 1st round pick would make Detroit think about it...other than that I can only see they laugh on Petries face...

The truth lies somewhere inbetween methinks.

Prince is overpaid, and so he's been tough for the Pistons to move the last few years. But they would probably love to do so to asisst their rebuild. What Smills failed to take into account was that he is also an ender now, making him a valuable trading commodity even if he didn't have value as a player. But that value in trade as an ender is largely about being valuable to teams looking shed long term salary, NOT in convincing some team to dump their youth and picks on you.

The Knigs dont need Prince. They need somebody to get them more wins now or else Sacramento is moving to another city. We cant keep hoping to use money for the offseason. This never works for the Kings. WE need to do it with our already flexible cap space for trades and quickly before Kings lose more fans.

I agree with you, but give me a name (or a few realistic ones) that would help the Kings win NOW? Taking in consideration that not many start players are willing to come to Sacramento...

Stupid move if indeed the FO is serious in moving out Thompson.

We are kind of set with our line-up of BIGs. If Thompson never improves that much, he would still be a very valuable player coming off the bench. We should wait until it becomes very clear Thompson is a hopeless case.

Cousins, Thompson, Whiteside, and Greene. Those 4 should be the future front court rotation for the Kings. We only need Dalembert for now while we wait for either Cousins or Whiteside to develop as our defensive anchor.

The odd man out should be the midget Landry and Jackson.

According to Real GM (not much of a story), Kings offered JT to Atlanta for Jeff Teague:

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/70100/20101115/hawks_declined_deal_for_jason_thompson/

Oops. Saw that this was posted elsewhere. Sorry.

Sorry, I'm not buying this one. Teague has done nothing in the NBA yet. He's shooting 21% from 3pt range and under 40% overall. I didn't like Teague coming out of college and I still don't like him. That aside, I just don't see Petrie trading a 6'11" PF thats proven he can average 12 pts a game and around 8 boards a game for a 6'2" player, that so far has averaged nothing, and would bring nothing to the team.
