Kings Select in the 2008 NBA DRAFT??

Can anyone else see GP pulling a rabbit out of the hat with our pick. Rumor was that he was strongly considering drafting Brooks with our #10 pick last year. Would it be surprising to see GP pick someone that no one considered as a possibility.

Someone like Jason Thompson?!

He seems to be the type of player that GP would like. Skilled, has a good mid range jumper, athletic, good defence, fills the need and plays for a small school.

god I hope not.

Russell Robinson came and talked to our varsity basketball team today about commitment and work ethic etc... He was talking about how putting the team first is the most important thing to do.

He used Darrell Arthur as an example and said that he only averaged about 12 points this season and then stated that he's going to be a top 10 pick!

Of course he might of been just using it in this context but I still found it humorous.

Was he working out for the Kings recently lol?

wait? we can still get gallinari!? lol ive seen his stock drop in some mock drafts too.... whats his combine any ways? :p id love to get the guy another SF? hehehe we can move one of our SFs for another pick :p

I'd be ok with a Galinari pick, but if he and Westbrook, Augustin, and/or Jordan are on the board, then I want one of the others. But I think I'd pick him over somebody like Arthur

Spent some time the last few days going back and watching games that I had recorded. The more I watch Jason Thompson, the more that I like him, especially when I watch him and then watch Jordan or Arthur. Yeah, I know he played in a small conference, but you can still tell if a guy can hit a 15 ft shot, or if he can pass the ball. He's the kind of guy that Petrie would lean toward.
I don't know if he's scheduled to work out for the Kings or not.

I'm going to America this summer, and my coach is good friends with Rider's coach (Tommy Dempsey). So far as I know, we'll be going to RU and having a practice on their floor, as well as meeting Thompson himself who my coach also knows. Not set in stone, but I've been asking my coach practically every session to try and make sure it happens. Meeting him will be the highlight of my trip if it does happen. If we get to speak to him I'll make sure to mention the Kings to him.
Probably sounds a bit far-fetched, nothing is set in stone. If it happens, I'll post some pictures, providing the mods don't mind.

Anyway, I'm obviously biased but I'd love Thompson. Would love to get another mid to late first rounder and take him.

Hey, good for you. I hope it works out so you can meet him. I'll tell you, I wouldn't be surprised to see Petrie take someone like Thompson or Ryan Anderson at number 12. I know most would think its a reach, but both those guys are skilled and thats one of the things Petrie looks for in a player. I'm also willing to bet he uses one of our second round picks on a foreign player who can spend another year or two in Europe.

I am not sure if it is a waste or not, Is it possible that Kings use 12 pick to draft Nathan Jawai?
Well, taking into consideration Petrie's track record, anything is possible. I would doubt it, considering he's ranked anywhere from the middle of the second round to the bottom of the first round, depending on which mock draft you put your faith in.
I know he worked out with the Kings, and, if he really impressed them, who knows. I've never seen him play, other than some clips on youtube, so I can't offer any legitiment opinion on him. There have been some pretty decent players that have come out of the Australian league though.

I don't think he'll take Jawai with 12, that would be a huge risk. He's worth a second rounder at best IMO.
I do think GP could shock us, though. Taking someone like Koufus, Alexander, or Budinger is all plausible. I'd absolutely hate it if we took Budinger or Koufus, but especially Bundinger. Just has not impressed me. Batum is a guy that has slipped alot, but I'd be 100% fine if we took him. I think he's going to be a very good player once he learns the NBA game.

From all the write ups about out workouts, its becoming increasingly obvious that we are after a PG with our first pick. I would be amazed if DJ Augustin is not there at pick 12 and I would be even more amazed if we don't pick him up.

According to Sam Amick, DJ is the highest profiled player we have worked out so far.

I think Geoff loves DJ so much he might trade up considering Indiana(1 pick above us) seems to like DJ also.

Just what we need, another defensive liability. Granted we do need a PG, but if you're drafting Augustin then you're hoping to lock him into the starting lineup for a long time. So that gives us a back court duo of Augustin and Kevin Martin? It's hard for me to picture that ever being a good defensive team.

Agreed. He won't be able to guard anybody, and he's going to have trouble with the length in the NBA. He's tiny and not very athletic. Oh boy, I'd be thrilled to get him...:rolleyes:He had major trouble against Memphis, and he's going to see a lot better than Memphis in the NBA.

Please let Westbrook fall to 12...I'm warming up to the idea if Westbrook, Love and Speights are off the board of nabbing Joe Alexander. I think he will be the steal of this draft if he falls out of the lottery.
