SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento Kings announced today that Tyrone Corbin has been relieved of his head coaching duties, according to General Manager Pete D’Alessandro.

Corbin will continue working with the organization and has chosen to serve as an advisor to the front office.

“I have the utmost respect for Tyrone as a coach and person,” said D’Alessandro. “He’s a man of great integrity, a consummate professional that managed a difficult situation with class and professionalism. I look forward to continuing to work with Tyrone moving forward.”

An advisor to the front office? What does that mean?

That goes to show that this organization as a whole generally does care about its employees. We only hear what the media tells us. I am very pleased at how the FO has decided to keep Ty Corbin around and give him a position within the Kings organization. They understand that he was put in a very difficult position and he handled it with pure professionalism.

Means he gets a closet somewhere in the building to sit in a chair and wasn't kicked to the curb immediately. The FO is trying to save face, and since they are paying him for his coaching contract they want him to show up once in a while.

No idea. Nothing I imagine. It means they're still paying him anyway, so they say he has a job most likely.

Woj's source was wrong about at least one detail.

"As for Tyrone Corbin, who had served as interim head coach for the team after Michael Malone's surprising firing following an 11-13 start, he "plans to leave the organization and will not be a part of Karl's staff for the rest of the season, a source said," according to Wojnarowski."

Enough already. We get it.

You're not going to be able to shape our opinion of the FO. It's too late.

Ok this is getting pretty absurd lol. I envision Vivek hired some guy in India who really doesn't know how to sound sincere to write these. Or he's just a troll or something.

I think ""Reassigning" Corbin was the right thing to do.

It was a mistake in the first place to take off the "interim" tag off coach Corbin. If they would have just kept him as an interim coach, they could replace him at any time.

Rookie Mistake.

But I think it is a classy move to give him a different role in the organization. They may have him scout or have him in player personnel development or something along those lines.

But let's be honest. They gave Corbin a shot, albeit in a very difficult situation and he got paid, and the players never responded to him.

So the FO was wrong in dumping this on him, but he accepted the position and Corbin was wrong because he did not do a good job as Head Coach.

If the FO has enough respect for Corbin not to just "Fire" him, and instead "reassign" him, I think that is the best outcome is such a difficult situation for all parties.

Corbin very easily could have said "No" and gone on for a nice paid vacation after getting relieved of duties. So that should speak to something that there's respect there between both parties and Corbin doesn't feel like he got thrown under the bus or anything. Why else would he stay on?

Sorry but burst your bubble about how "nice" our FO is and all, but this is a made up job for a guy who got a guaranteed contract not to long ago.

He’s here till that contract is over, or as I think our FO hopes – until he yearns to get back to coaching and take it upon himself to quit thus not being compensated for the remaining of the deal as would happen if they just fired him right now.

So yeah, nothing "nice" about the circus act that is our Front Office. They’re just trying to force the hand of Corbin into quitting by giving him a bullcrap job with no power or real input whatsoever and saving a few extra bucks with that.

It's not like he'd really have any say or meaning to his job - he's here to pass on time till that contract expires, or as Vivek and Pete hope until he wants to get back to coaching so bad that he willingly gives up on part/all of the money he's guaranteed to receive.

Don't fall for the trap Pete set up.

To keep collecting his paychecks.

This is about the Kings not wanting to part ways with him and pay him all his guaranteed money like Malone practically for nothing in return.

They'll keep him on, hope he gets a job elsewhere(Or is not pleased with the his current "role" which in essence is nothing), and then tell him his contract is canceled if the former happens, or hope he just quits by himself.

Don't be naive. Remember this is Pete he's dealing with here.

If he signed the contract to be Head Coach and they change that, he could easily of said "NO" and still got paid, in fact he could of said "HELL NO" and still would have been paid.

I'm sure Corbin knew he wasn't doing a good job as Head Coach, so he accepted the new role.

I'm pretty sure he didn't have to take a new role, to get paid on his Head Coaching contract.

Depends on the contract terms. It could stipulate that at any point they could "demote" him to an advisory role or some such. Contracts can be powerful and flexible things.....

True.

But, if that were true though, wouldn't he had just been "Interim" Head Coach. Once they remove the Interim tag, that would suggest that he is the Head Coach as a permanent position for the contract.

Again, we have no idea what his contract said so nobody knows if keeping him on was a condition of his paycheck or if they offered a position to him because they wanted to. All speculation at this point.

If he comes on as an "Interim" he doesn't get paid nearly as much. He is being paid a lot more than he would have otherwise made if he had stayed an assistant and then an interim.

At least pay the man for a very difficult job and situation. They did that

So where are the people that said they did Corbin wrong? There are way too many people that think the worst here when things are just fine. I am sure Corbin is happy with the deal he has.

Here are the two stars thoughts.

Demarcus Cousins

"I wasn't consulted when the decision was made to fire Mike Malone and I'm not being consulted now,” Cousins told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday night. "I just hope they make a decision soon and stick with it. George Karl is an experienced, proven coach and if that is who they chose to coach this team, I will support it. I do not like all these discussions in the media while we have a coach in place. It is a distraction and not fair to Coach Corbin and this team."

"It’s been a difficult situation for everybody,” Cousins said. “Not just the players, but the coaching staff. All of us got thrown into this situation. But we have to make the least amount of excuses possible and go out and do our job to the best of our ability.”

Rudy Gay

"“When you start training camp doing one thing, it’s hard for [Corbin] to come in [in the middle of the season] and insert his way,” Gay said. “It’s tough for him, but he played it like a professional.”

an advisor? ehhh...I guess it won't hurt as long, it's good of them to keep him around, didn't have to do so. This has to be the shortest stint a head coach has received in history...only in Sacramento
