There is speculation that the D league will undergo some big changes under the new CBA. The owners would like to reduce rosters down to 12 players, thereby doing a form of contraction. Under this scenario 90 players would lose their jobs. Another suggestion is for the draft to be increased to 4 rounds with each team being able to send 4 players to the D league, making it more like triple A baseball in its fuction. I'm assuming that they wouldn't count against the cap and they would subject to lower D league salaries. Under his new fourm, the teams would then pick the coach, or even send one of their own assistants down to coach, thereby making sure the type of offense and defense the team wants is being taught.
This is all speculation of course, but one thing is sure. the owners are hellbent on getting huge consessions from the players. And the owners have all the leverage. Some would actually save money if the league cancels the season. Considering that a lot of these players live hand to mouth, despite large salaries, it won't take long for unrest to rear its ugly head in the players association. And speaking of cancelling the season. The owners have stated that unlike the previous lockout season, if there is a lockout, the season will be canceled right from the get go.
My gut tells me that some sort of agreement will be reached before it comes to that. At least I hope so..
