Kings recalled Whiteside today!

I also think that Evans was deferring to Martin while he was here. I doubt that Evans would be what he is today, won the ROY, if Martin was not traded.

i personally dont really care for personal awards if the team would have done better. im not saying it would have happened for sure, but if with time, evans and martin learned to play together and became a great back court which led to wins...i would give up that tyreke ROY. imagine tyreke kicking it out to someone who could consistently make 3s. but we will never know if it would have worked or not (even though some may say they know)

I don't know where we'll find minutes for him. Maybe Westphal feels that after the Nuggets blowout on National TV and the Maloof's public declaration of support, he feels he isn't under as much pressure to win every game he can.

Look at this guy, trying to get the thread back on track :p

Seriously though...Excited to (hopefully) see some Whiteside. Its probably going to take garbage time, something we've seen surprisingly little of given our terrible record.

Im happy to see Whiteside called back up, even if he isn't ready he can atleast be used for garbage time or as a extra 7 ft when all of our bigs are in early FT trouble.

As for Kmart and this team....

This team doesn't need offense most nights as we saw yesterday in Toronto. What they do need however is that guy to go get his points the hard way by himself at the end of games which IMO is one of the biggest weaknesses of Kevin's game. I loved Kevin as a part of this team and he is one of the only reasons I watch for the Rockets. With that said if I was GM, I'd still do the trade for Landry.

This Whiteside thing is very odd. They send him to the D-League, presumably to get playing time. Then he doesn't get playing time. Then they recall him for the exact same reason - he's not getting the minutes. Very weird. Are we to believe that Whiteside is a scrub even in the D-League? Napier's comments reflect the same oddness about the situation. After seeing him in summer league I just find it very hard to believe that he shouldn't have gotten minutes in the D-League. I'm really thinking the half serious comments about Musselman's vendetta might have some truth...

When he first got there, he got into foul trouble in almost every game, so that explains some of his limited minutes. But of late there were games where he only had 1 or 2 fouls. In one game he didn't have any fouls. Now he may be raw and inexperienced. Duh! Me thinks thats why we sent him there. To get experience. That is the sole reason for the Developmental League, isn't it? In my mind Musselhead is using the D Leauge as a stepping stone to get back into the NBA. So he needs a good record. It is my sincere hope that it backfires on him. I find it interesting that the one player that is sent down by the Kings, the team that fired him, is the player not getting any playing time.

You thought those comments were half-serious? I think there's more than a joking suspicion that Musselman is dismotivated to help the Kings develop players.

yahoo!

Now wonder whether he gets to be active or just gets to return to practices. If he was barely playing anyway, was no point though.

baloney....

anyone want to post an over/under on the number of days (hours) before he is starting (and Dally or JT mysteriously disappears briefly) :D

Seems like it tended to go from passing amusement, to some suspicion, to suspicion, to the obvious.

In any case, if this is going to be how it is with Kings D-League guys in the future, it's not exactly an endorsement of sending a Kings' project to the D-League where they can wither on the vine. Seems to me the Kings org should have some kind of say in the matter.

There is speculation that the D league will undergo some big changes under the new CBA. The owners would like to reduce rosters down to 12 players, thereby doing a form of contraction. Under this scenario 90 players would lose their jobs. Another suggestion is for the draft to be increased to 4 rounds with each team being able to send 4 players to the D league, making it more like triple A baseball in its fuction. I'm assuming that they wouldn't count against the cap and they would subject to lower D league salaries. Under his new fourm, the teams would then pick the coach, or even send one of their own assistants down to coach, thereby making sure the type of offense and defense the team wants is being taught.

This is all speculation of course, but one thing is sure. the owners are hellbent on getting huge consessions from the players. And the owners have all the leverage. Some would actually save money if the league cancels the season. Considering that a lot of these players live hand to mouth, despite large salaries, it won't take long for unrest to rear its ugly head in the players association. And speaking of cancelling the season. The owners have stated that unlike the previous lockout season, if there is a lockout, the season will be canceled right from the get go.

My gut tells me that some sort of agreement will be reached before it comes to that. At least I hope so..

The problem with the idea of expanding the draft to four rounds and "allocating" players to the D league is that salaries overseas are much higher than what the guys are making in D-League.

Besides - how many times has a guy been passed over, spent years overseas or in another league (thinking either D league or CBA) and came in and truly made an impact? Seems possible to "develop" baseball and football players (to an extent) but in basketball, it seems that if you don't have the athletic ability to play in the NBA you just never really play in the NBA.

I guess that's over-generalizing, there will be guys like Anthony Parker and the like who come in and are good role players, but as far as impact guys go, 99% of the time they go in the first 20 picks of the draft.

Actually there have been quite a few players that started in the old CBA and now the D league that have made it to the NBA. As far as europe goes, there are only so many spots on each team for foreign players from out of the country. There are many college players left looking for a job every year, with some playing in even smaller leagues. The idea wouldn't be for necessarily finding impact players, it would be for finding good support players for those impact players. Remember that if the rosters were reduced to 12 players, that makes 90 fewer spots on NBA rosters.

If you going to get the players to agree to losing 90 jobs, you have to at least make it up in some fashion. Allowing each team to have 4 players, or 120 spots in the D league, would help smooth the feathers a little. Even if the salaries were considerably less.
