[Game] Kings @ Raptors Tuesday 1/22/19 @ 4:00pm PT/ 7:00pm ET

I can live with this loss for one reason - Marvin Bagley III. He is the real deal and I hope everyone pays close attention so they can tell future generations they watched him at the very beginning.

Great game from Bagley but what happened to his three point shot? Ever since returning from injury he’s been shooting a really poor percentage from three.

Hopefully next year that shot comes. If it doesn't Bagley has to play center full time. Bagley at PF is allowing teams to close off all lanes for the guards and the difference in your 2's for oppontent 3's if those 2's aren't super efficient is something we've seen and it won't work. The Bjelica effect is real. That stretch 4 means something with the way the Kings are trying to play.

Raptors are going to be a tough, tough out in the playoffs. This team is without Jval, Kawhi and OG. Their depth is absolutely amazing.

very true indeed. I'll be rooting for them in the Eastern Conference Playoffs, that franchise and city could use a winner for a change after all those years of Bron owning them

Bagley double double
Bog near triple double

That's all I got.

Be realistic. At the beginning of the season you would never have dared hope for even that much.

Guys - this is a YOUNG team. They learn from every game. They are still at .500 in January. They already have 24 wins...in January. Don't be so drawn into the expectations that you fail to recognize just how special the moment is.

I was on the sign Van Vleet bandwagon this summer. Yogi and Frank looked like 3rd stringers tonight.

Justin Jackson and Marvin's play recently eases any need at forward.

The Kings need a backup PG and a rebounding specialist.

Cory Joseph please!

Fox is the head of the snake, it's no wonder the Kings have struggled since his shooting has dipped in the last couple months. When he is aggressive and scoring, that opens the game up that much more for him to facilitate and add an extra scorer next to Buddy and Bogs.

i think we are 5-5 in our last 10. pretty much our normal .500 ball. no?

Pretty much this.

For all the defeatist “they overachieved and now the League is on to us” stuff the Kings are pretty much winning at the same pace they have won at all season. They get 2-3 game above .500, they fall to .500 or even one under and repeat. This has been played out 3-4 times already this season. So nothing has changed really which means they haven’t overachieved. They are are who they are. A .500 team.

I think we’re just hoping for the Kings to go on a 8 of 10 run or something and build some separation to more or less confirm a winning season even if it’s not enough for playoffs and they just haven’t taken the next step even though the schedule eased up more since the new year.

We’re getting more and more beat down by the Kings flaws that have been there all year.

Bad Rebounding
Bad Defense
Bad FT attempts and percentage

These aren’t new problems brought on by adjustments. Couple old faithful flaws in with a Kings offensive slump and this team just isn’t going to be very good but the offensive woes won’t last.

So we lost the game. That does matter in that it decreases our playoff chances this year and isn’t as much fun as winning. However, what is exponentially more important is how Marvin Bagley, De’Aaron Fox, and to lesser degrees Bogi, Hield, Jackson, Giles, and WCS look during our win or loss.

I’d take a 5 game losing streak with Fox and Bagley playing like future stars over a 5 game winning streak boueyed by Shumpert, Bjelica, etc.

To that end, this game feels like a victory to me. In his first start, Bagley casually put up a 22 and 11 line while displaying at least one new trick (that drive and dish) and a solid display of what we’ve already seen from him. He is RAW. His game has a long way to go. The flashes are there though. Good form, has some ability to handle the ball, elite athleticism, hard worker, some post moves, etc.

So, let the pitchforks bounce. I’m gonna enjoy this process.

This was where people thought we would makeup some ground though as we were playing multiple teams on the 2nd game of a back to back. Some people were thinking we would easily be above 5-6 games above .500 after the road trip.

However, since the tough home losses to Nuggets and Warriors, we have not been the same team. We’ve had the sudden convergence of big slumps with Fox, Shump, Beli. And teams have defended us differently. Good news is the holes in our team are more evident and it should give clear direction on the personnel changes needed. I’m hoping we see some big moves in the next month.

Still think Frank is better than Yogi.
Yogi has that stop on a dime jumper that Mason lacks. I tend to agree with you but it's close. That fact is Mason just has not made enough shots at the rim or from deep in his rookie year or this year and he lost his spot in the rotation because of it.

We know Joerger, but I just can’t imagine Bagley not starting from here on out.

I think the Buddy/Bogdan duo deserves an extended look (as always)

Fox/Buddy/Bogdan/Bagley/WCS can ball now and make a playoff push

Just today I saw Frank deliver a few drop off passes. That’s what I want from Yogi... but dude has zero court vision.

We all (or most of us) remember Vivek fist pumping in war room as McLemore "fell" to #7 for Kings.

That’s a bit unfair. And you have the benefit of judging in hindsight. At the time, McLemore was a top prospect. Scouting 18 and 19 yo kids is an inexact science. More of them don’t pan out.

Vivek’s excitement over Ben and Nik Stauskas turned out to be fools gold. But his excitement over Buddy Hield, De’Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley looks to be warranted. Can’t be right all the time.

I don't like how these last few games have ended so sloppy. Some bad habits seeping in. They can and need to turn it around. Play focused the entire 48 minutes.

Yeah, I’ve been growing increasingly frustrated with the ‘falling off the cliff’ that has been occurring at points in nearly every game.

For a team that scores so well, they consistently go through so many long scoring droughts all while offering little resistance on the other end. They tend to need Buddy or a combination of other players to get on hot streaks in order to bridge the gap. When that doesn’t happen, they tend to lose by 15 or more.

Of course agree with excitement over Heild, Fox, Bagley. But even Scot Pollard a fellow KU alum warning Kings against taking overrated BenMac but he was not the owner pulling ALL the strings in 2013.

On the bright side, it was nice to see MB3 perform well in his 1st start. I think he’d be contending for ROY if he’d been thrust into the lineup from day 1 and also not been injured. I’m not complaining about the way he’s been handled, as I’m ok with it. Just acknowledging the situation. MB3 can play. And those that don’t follow the KINGS each night don’t yet realize it.

I agree with this! He really needs to start.

Shocker, teams that play .500 ball lose half their games.....

It is frustrating when it seems like they are mailing in the road trip. Today on the way home in the car I just felt bad for the radio announcer - he kept saying "... and that's another turnover" or "...and that's another offensive rebound for Toronto".

But I guess you can't win em all. Sucks to take a couple L's in a row though

Yes, I recall that too. But Pollard isn’t a vetted pro scout or GM nor does he work for the KINGS. He’s also not right all the time. I’m sure he’s misjudged a fair share of young players just like everyone else. Just because it played out that he was right in this instance doesn’t mean the KINGS should have paid him any mind.

I was right about Curry over Tyreke. And I also said I’d take Fox over Ball and Fultz — but that doesn’t mean the KINGS should listen to me either. They gotta play their hand the way they believe is right. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Even the great Geoff Petrie missed out and misjudged players. It happens.

I am not here to defend Ben, that foul to the end the half was inexcusable, but look at all the criticisms piled onto him in this thread when he is 3-4 FGs 2 rebs and 1 block while Goose Egg Jackson was 0 rebounds in 17 minutes while two way player Boucher is attacking the paint like a man possessed. Jackson was a team worst -21 plus / minus and many soft plays that don't show in the box score. He had a wide open lane where if he would have attacked with force we make it a 6 point game. Instead he throws up trash and we are down 11. Jackson cannot sustain anything offensively unless ignored by the defense and even when he gets clean looks from deep he is only 33% on 800 shots (SAC and NC) so any above average games (Nets) are going to offset with reversion to the mean. Willie was equally poor. I said we are not a playoff caliber team weeks ago as constructed and reassert that position. It helps that Giles is a rotational player and Bagley will be in the starting lineup soon but we need a trade. We need an infusion of talent. I think this rough patch we are going through now could be a positive if it facilitates a prudent move by Vlade. He (and Brandon) need to be working those phones overtime to get something done.
