Players aren't anywhere near as focused on starting as fans are. Most players want to be on the court at the end of the game when it matters. Stepping out at the beginning is a false honor, especially if they're on the bench at the end.

True, but some are. The first 6 minutes or so is usually a feeling out period between both teams and shots come a lot easier. It gives some players a chance to get in rhythm.

I've said it before. Ben has NO basketball IQ. Put any faith in him at all and he will break your heart. He should not be out there right now. I'd rather see Skal get minutes at this point than see Ben ever step on the court again, regardless of how hard he tries to make up for stupid.

I understand what you're saying. I'm just saying based on being around the game for over 50 years, whenever I've heard a player talk about goals, being a starter isn't what they focus on. It's earning their minutes and "being there for their team when it matters." (Kevin Martin actually said that in those very words.)
