Kings Pre-Draft Workout Video (updated daily)

Cousins might be a poor man's Shaq, but he's nothing like Howard.

It's probably the weight and the high skill level for a big man but I guess he reminds me most of Brad Daugherty- enter bajaden to explain the difference in their mole locations. I hope he doesn't have the injury concerns that Brad had though.

Well I'll let you worry about that, I'll be enjoying the shots he made in the workout. Did you see those? :D

If it's that big a problem and he's that flawed perhaps you'd prefer Monroe?

I did see them, but like I've already said it's a poor sample to draw conclusions from. He won't be a consistent shooter with form like that, just ask Dwight Howard.

I don't prefer Monroe, but that doesn't mean I'm going to ignore Cousins' flaws. I call it like I see it.

That's a good comparison bodywise, but Daugherty was really more of a skill/finesse center (in fact Monroe resembles him moreso in skillset), while Cousins seems to like to use that bulk to bully people.

Still, if Cousins could actually approach Daugherty's level of productivity he would be an enormous asset.

Right game wise I guess Tim Duncan has more similarities to Daugherty, but Cousins definitely has the potential I think for some finesse. You're right the majority of Cousins' game comes from use of his bulk, but he does show other abilities when he needs to including something of a faceup game and spin moves. Even Shaq started working on hooks and things when he came into the league recognizing that there would be times he couldn't get to the rim and DMC is gonna have to also.

You need to watch more games with Cousins. One of his best moves is a spin move where he seals his opponent from the basket. He has a lot of post moves. He also has a face up game, but wasn't allowed to use it that much at Kentucky. Calapari wanted him in the post most of the time. But he's very capable of playing from the top of the key. He's actually a pretty polished player for only having played the game since the 8th grade. He also has a mole on his right ankle..

Ok I'll watch them but I said in the post you quoted that he had a faceup game and spin moves- not sure what I missed.

A center version of Al Jefferson is really his best comparison I think. His strength is very good for the NBA, but since he's very poor at getting off the ground, he's going to have to use his foot work and post moves to score at the NBA level. He's strong, but he also plays below the rim.

He'll have to use footwork and post moves more but I think what was effective for him in college will still largely work for him in the pros which was establishing perfect position, sealing off the back corner of the low post so that his defender is virtually under the basket and just laying it in. He won't be able to do that with the same frequency as college but I think he still will be able to do it.

My bad. I guess either my comprehension or speed reading skills have gone to hell. I'll have to read slower in the future.. Sorry!!:o

Nah NP bro. I noticed that what I consider to be points off of sheer positioning you consider to be from a low post spin move- small detail but it would add to his low post skill resume on your scouting report where it would add to his awareness and maximization of size in my report.

Also I think I'm probably not giving him enough credit for his post moves. In college he just didn't have to use them much because of that position he would get but at the times he couldn't get the great positioning he showed surprising moves. I remember one sequence where he turned baseline and it appeared he had run into a dead end but by the time the play was over he had thrown an extra couple of spin moves and gotten off a high % shot.

Samham's a funny guy. He would be a nice pickup in the 2nd round but I doubt he will still be available.

I thought there was an interesting answer from Whiteside to one of the questions posed to him:

How did the competition compare from your first to second workout?

“I think this one was better. There were more mobile big men, like Greg Monroe.”

Now, the guys he's obviously comparing Monroe to are Aldrich, Richards, and Orton (from the first workout that both Whiteside and Udoh also attended) but it's interesting to note that from the point of view of a guy who has been forced to guard them, Greg Monroe falls into the "mobile, like Ekpe Udoh" category and not the "slow, like Cole Aldrich" category.

At this point, if Cousins and Favors are both gone, I'm almost certain we'll take Monroe. We might even take Monroe over Cousins, it just wouldn't surprise me at all. I have no read on what Petrie thinks of Favors, so on the off chance that he falls to us (Wall, Turner, Cousins, Johnson being the only logical way) I don't know what we would do.

Kings name prospects for Tuesday's pre-Draft workout: Luke Harangody (Notre Dame), Jon Scheyer (Duke), Ben Uzoh (Tulsa), Mike Gerrity (USC), Michael Washington (Arkansas) and Dominique Johnson (Azusa).

Really pushing Monroe in that video. I'd prefer to take a chance on Whiteside over Monroe if we're going to pass (stupidly) on Cousins.

Since the word is that the Kings were really impressed with Cousins' workout, I'd have to presume there are important enough red flags for the Kings to pass over Cousins for Monroe, if that happens. I actually think GP is a pretty good judge of character or the intangibles.

Hello!:) Glad someone besides me acknowledged this.
