Does anyone think that we'd be better off resting our guys and pocketing the 3 seed vs. at least seeing how Memphis's next two games shake out and going for 2?

I don't, but seems to be a topic among some.

I'd go for the latter. You've got a chance to play some much weaker teams if you can play one of the play in teams in the first round. Nothing is guaranteed but the odds are better in that scenario.

The Pelicans did us a bit of a favor by blowing out the Nuggets, so we can keep our faint dreams of moving into the #1 spot alive for now. Tomorrow is a really busy day, with every team in the race but New Orleans and Dallas in action. The Kings have a chance to lock up the #3 seed and the Pacific division with a win in Portland AND a Suns loss to Denver. Meanwhile there's going to be a lot of jockeying in the 4-10 slots, so we can watch the Kings' presumed first round opponent bounce around. Will it be the Warriors by the end of the day? Will it matter?

Today's games:
NOP def. DEN

I want to keep the team in rhythm. Keep playing to win, including the last one against Denver
Regular season records be damned, I also think getting HCA in round 2 will matter. In fact in terms of getting respect from refs I'll take 2 over 3 as well. But I also agree with the momentum.

Sounds like the Julius Randle injury might have spooked some folks. Others are afraid of getting the Lakers as 2 seed, I think the Lakers have the trickiest schedule to read since they could conceivably be getting a win or you're out Utah twice or 4 games against teams with nothing to play for.

Right now NOP has the most interesting remaining schedule with 4 of their 5 games likely to directly impact our first round matchup.

Not sure what to think about this relatively new play in format?
I finally read up on it to understand how it works and the main positive I took away is that if the post season began today Lakers and Wolves would beat each other up.

I think we should rest the starters for tomorrow's game. The Blazers are awful and they've already shut down their entire season. There's no reason to play our guys in a meaningless game and risk their health. I know some people want to catch Memphis at #2, but I think we should be focused on ourselves. With the way things are going, we also have no clue who ends up in the 6th seed vs. the 7th seed.

As a general rule, when you see teams rest their starters, the guys who do start feel they have something to prove. That would certainly be the case here: Mitchell, Monk, Edwards or Davis, Lyles, Metu or Len.

Coach Brown is so old-school, though, I doubt he would actually rest the starters all at once.

Until the Suns/Griz are out of the picture in seeding, I dont think Brown will rest his players. He may adjust minutes distribution down though. Suns draw Nuggets today. Clips/Griz, Wolves/Lackers

I think we need to look in the 3 seed first before fully resting guys. Just don't want to open that can of worms where we punt our most winnable game left this season and then all of a sudden in a week we're in a must win scenario because we didn't take care of business.

Just dominate again tonight and hope the starters can take odd the 4th quarter

The play-in system is DUMB.

I mean, it made sense back during the 2019-2020 season when the season was unexpectedly halted in March then foolishly resurrected during the Summer (for an obvious agenda) when there were a handful of teams within range of the 7th and 8th seed.

But to keep it going afterward makes no sense. They already had 8 of the 15 conference teams qualifying, now we need 10 with a chance? If you’re gonna do that, why not just allow ALL 15 teams a chance?

There doesn’t seem to be much of a point to a long, grueling 82 game season (which many of these players can’t seem to withstand w/o “load management”) if only FIVE teams are going to be eliminated at the end of it all.

Furthermore, I don’t want to hear anymore crap about the KINGS playoff drought, as it was under the “old” system. Under this new play-in nonsense, even the KINGS wouldn’t have gone 17-years between playoff births.

I don't mind the play in but it was ticking me off that if we had a 7 or 8 seed clinched and been bounced we'd still have continued the drought officially. Wonder if other teams with no drought only had one or two years over a longer spell with nothing but a 7 or 8 to show for it.

Interesting too that if your a 9th or 10th seed and you win your play-in series your then out of the lottery.
I don't know how this effects the incentive to win or lose when your basically not that great of a team unless a lot of loses were related to injuries.
Or maybe it somehow discourages tanking. I'm not sure but don't think I'm a fan of the system.

I'm thinking it's more and more likely we're facing Golden State.

Which I've changed my mind and I think that's preferable to the Clippers now. The Clippers are thought would falter without Paul George and they just haven't. They're finally clicking and they'll be a tough out.

So now it just comes down to GS vs NO vs MIN.

They're a battle tested team team with championship experience, but on the other hand, I think this is a better matchup than either MIN or NO or LAC considering they're lacking lengthy wings and guard defenders.

ooooh. intrigued. what was the agenda?

Damn, I was hoping the Thunder would win and the Lakers lose to Wolves. Doesn’t appear either will happen.
I’m good with the Grizzlies beating the Clips and and the Warriors winning later today, I want the Warriors in that 5 spot.

He’s a walking talking joke and his comment deserves no further attention unless it’s for laughter. He’s really going to mention the Kings, in a game they won, and this being a team that hasn’t sniffed playoffs in ages? And he doesn’t even mention the Lakers who have shot like 200 more free throws than the next closest team (which is us)!! 200! It’s like getting 2 games worth of offense as an added bonus. What an advantage.
haha. Listen to their comments about that point on the mismatch.

Given how closely packed the teams are it’s hard to make the case it’s a weaker team.

the only reason to consider it would be to get a home court advantage in the 2nd Round. But the team is a bit worn down and some could use a rest. Both Fox and Sabonis come to mind. We don’t need to be playing 5 games in 8 days right before the play-off. Maybe if Memphis lost tonight and we were 1 behind in the loss column. But they finish with pretty easy teams other than the Bucks. Not only that let the Warriors play against our bench while we game plan for them.

Denver not plaing Jokic, Murray, Porter Jr.....shutting down?
This is a pretty good move by Denver since they have a cushion and can afford to drop a game. Phoenix is a potential second round matchup for them and by keeping 4 starters out they've engineered it so Phoenix needs to win to save face here and can't scout Denver's playoff strength or gain any confidence if they do win. They have another game coming up against Phoenix next week and that cushion just got a little bit smaller though so they might not be able to pull the same stunt again.

The Suns are on absolute life support in terms of chasing the #3 slot after our win tonight, so it's probably just as well that they defeated the Nuggets and gave us just a little bit more light at chasing the #1 seed. Not gonna happen, we'll be the #3 seed barring some extremely unlikely and extended luck, but it's nice to hold on to the dream a bit longer.

Fairly light slate tomorrow, with the Clippers facing off against the Pelicans and the Mavericks looking to make their way into the play-in discussion, just like Kyrie envisioned.

Memphis is bad on the road and 4 of 5 for them are on the road. I have Memphis finishing up 2-3 and the Kings 4-1 and we will grab the 2nd seed from Memphis. I don't think we will catch Denver. I see them finishing 3-2 or 2-3. Either way we finish 1 or 2 games back.
