Again, I think the focus on fit is being taken to an extreme here. Whoever we take does not necessarily need to be in our long term plans. He needs to, at the very least, hold trade value. We don’t get a consolation prize for whiffing on a PF/long wing so the focus should be on taking a player that has best combination of upside and likelihood of reaching that upside. I like that combination for Carter over some of these other options.

As for needing players who can stretch the floor, do you consider Carter to not be on of those players? He did just hit 38% on high volume while shooting 75% from the FT line. He’s not going to Steph Curry out there but I’m not down on his potential as someone who can space the floor.

As for him being an all around scorer, I think that’s an important trait to have. If all you can do is hit catch & shoot 3s at a high clip, you’re going to get defenses rushing hard on the close out and dare you to put the ball on the floor. Carter‘s ability to score in more ways than one makes it that much more difficult for the defense when they have to rotate to him after someone like Fox collapses the defense. They’ll have to respect his ability to drive and finish which could give him a bit more time to knock down that 3. This is even more important in the playoffs when you see defenses game plan for opponents and try to take away their strengths. If you have a player who can punish you in multiple ways, it allows that player to counter what the defense is trying to do to him.

If we aren’t able to retain Monk in free agency, I believe we should really consider giving Isaiah Collier a look at #13. Bulldozes everyone to get to the rack and was in consideration of a top 3 draft pick before the college season. I don’t put the full blame on him for his draft stock falling, the entire USC team was a mess. Still put up solid numbers in college with 16.3 ppg, 2.9 rebs, 4.3 ast shooting at a 49% fg clip. He gives me Tyreke Evan’s vibes the way he gets to the rack effortlessly (he does it more so with force compared to Reke’s handle).

The issue is you won’t know if Monk is gone when you make the pick since the draft takes place before FA. I think this is just another good reason to take the player you think will be the best trade asset and make those balancing moves down the road either via FA, trade, etc.

Becoming more and more convinced Knecht is the Monte pick. Dude is like the epitome of what Monte wants to draft.

I still feel like the idea that there is a "Monte type" and that he isn't just picking BPA is debatable. If Franz was there in 2021 it kills a lot of the narrative on what a Monte guy is. Also the "he only picks guards" nonsense should have died when we took Keegan over Ivey. But are we sure he will only take more experienced guys? are folks convinced that if we had a top 2 pick in 2022 we take Keegan?

I don't know. I'm excited to see what he does here because last year he traded out of the first round and that was the first time we had a non-lottery pick with a solid foundation in ages. This year might truly be the year that reveals who Monte really is, though I think Brown has a big hand in the decisions.

It's just a lazy narrative. There's no rookie in this class that could replace Malik Monk - definitely not next season for sure. If Monk goes, it changes the complexion of the team, full stop. No point in looking for an ersatz Malik. Instead you just pivot and lean into whatever new identity you can forge from your bench without him.

I love me some Furphy - but it’s going to take him a couple seasons to put on the NBA weight/strength that he will need. He keeps the ball moving, plays fast, attacks the basket hard and I believe in the shot.

But I like Kyshawn George more than Furphy. And I am starting to wonder why Tyler Smith is so low on mocks. I think the Kings have to think about him at 13.

Hard to dislike comparisons to Donovan Mitchell and Mitch Richmond and his numbers look impressive. Still he's nearly 24 and the allegation doesn’t look great. Guess I should listen to a personal interview or two and maybe get a take.

Can I start making a list of players who I don't want to draft?

• Buzelis looks like a possible bust in the NBA. He's a supposed shooter who can't shoot? His guard-like handles mean very little when he doesn't do much with them. He needs a lot of work on defense and I don't see his shot blocking translating to the NBA. I get the appeal, but it feels more conceptual than reality
• Salaun is a very raw project that the Kings don't have time for. He has a solid upside due to his shooting potential and defense, but I don't think we have the tools to get him there. He doesn't really do much else on offense
• Walter is another player that's too much of a project to take on for the Kings. He doesn't impact other areas of the game enough
• Furphy is a god-awful defender. His lateral quickness is bad. He's young, and maybe he gets there eventually, but it wouldn't be on the Kings.

But to offer a different perspective, some of these players are a the top of Kevin Pelton's draft model. Walter is at #6, Furphy at #8, Buzelis is at #17, and Salaun is at #15.

His draft model has been insanely good.

I don’t hear much about George on this board. I enjoy his interviews and he certainly plays a position of need with good size. Thoughts on if he’s a good target at 13.

Had to be before the National Tournament because after that he was near universally mocked in the lottery.

I could see him being late first early 2nd round before the Baylor run.

Theres guys like that every year. Clingan was mid first round and then he shot up to one of of the top picks during the tournament.

It would be an interesting play. At any rate his advanced stats this year were outrageous and he did a lot better athletically at the combine (lane agility, shuttle run) than I expected. I can see why teams would get scared away top 5, but at 13, you get a huge guy who rebounds, fills up the paint on D, and has ridiculous gravity in the post, which will free up a ton of open threes. The problem for us is whether he'd be relegated to the bench permanently, or whether we could find a way to play him beside Domas. Domas at the 4 could work reasonably well on offense, but on D could be a disaster.

I believe he means that Davion was ranked 44th by Pelton's analytical model.
