Didn't we have that with Patrick Patterson? It failed

It failed because we aren't good enough, Patrick Patterson is not good enough to make a bad team a good team on his own(especially with his shooting struggles this year for us). While we didn't win a lot last season, I felt Patterson did open things up for Evans and Cousins , we were still losing but the floor was more open for them. A stretch 4 is a role player, a guy that feeds off of your best players, we arent' good enough in that department yet(Tyreke and last years Cousins certainly weren't), or good enough defensively to compete with the best teams. A stretch 4 is generally sought after by very good teams that need a guy to stand in the corner and hit an open shot when asked. Its not a guy you rant and rave about as the next coming of Jordan.

It means that if Jerry was a Kingsfans poster he would be amongst the very few of us that appreciate and recognize what IT brings most every night. I also don't get why fans think Jerry has some agenda from upstairs to praise/ talk up IT, last time I heard IT makes less than a million a year for us and will be a free agent after this season, in no sense is he the "face of the franchise" that the FO wants its announcers to talk up to the fanbase and sell as a star. Maybe its just an old man thats been around the game his whole life and recognizes a good player when he see's one.

Exactly. I feel so ashamed to have been wrong all along. And when Grant said that IT gave 100% of every minute of every game, I further understood how foolish I have been to not have seen that.

Soooo do we need an elite shot blocker or a stretch 4 next to cousins? I'm confused. Can Larry sanders shoot the 3 ball?

As it stands, a shot blocking 4 would be the better fit. With Tyreke you needed a stretch 4 because he was a guy that penetrated exclusively, and while we had shooting in IT and Thornton, JT and Cuz generally are paint players, thus Patterson was the better fit(the shooting and floor spacing you lost with Evans, was gained with Patterson, and it took an opposing big out of the paint).

As the team is currently constructed you have good floor spacing from the PG position and SF(Gay isn't a great 3 point shooter, but surely not a guy you can sag off of too much) , and in theory Mac should grow into a very good outside shooter. So a big guy that can block shots would be of much better use for us. Another option no one is mentioning is to get a traditional defensive 5 and slide Cuz to the 4, it wont always work in the small ball era of the NBA, but it would be a unique brand in the league, and give us an identity.

Unless this center can stretch the floor this moves Cousins outside, and we saw today or in any game of Smart era, how effective Boogie becomes the further you move him away from the basket.

We need shot blocking far more than we need spacing since we have literally zero shot blocking and it's far easier to find above average shooters than it is elite shot blockers/man to man defenders like Sanders. Also Sanders would be the only King in the starting 5 who knows how to set a pick and roll to the rim.

Let's cool it on the Sanders is elite talk for now. The only think Sanders has been elite at this year is being a crazy person.

100% of every minute he has the ball. I'll give them that. The rest of the time he stands and watches for the most part.

I put the games on mute and play the Benny Hill theme song on loop.

Again, someone please watch sanders play this year. Or just look at the box scores. He's been pretty useless. And he's an off the court disaster waiting to happen. Well it already did. Next time it may not be a finger.

We do NOT need a stretch 4 next to Ocusins.

That's loser ball. Very in vogue today, completely inappropriate for a great center, and failed with Dwight in the end. And Cousins is far more an inside/outside guy than Dwight.

In a perfect world your franchise center is a big mean mofo, and then you go get an even meaner mofo to team with him and snap the backs of opposing PFs Bane-style. In an imperfect world where Cousins is your center and can't handle shotblocking duties, your PF has to be able to do that too. But synergy is not putting some frilly tutu wearing scream at a papercut piece of doggy doo out there to hide behind Boogie's skirts, its to seal the deal inside. You don't leave Cuz alone in there. That's ****ing cowardly as hell. You get him a wingman and then you try to win the inside battle every single night by a huge margin.

While I don't agree that a stretch 4 is what we need, Patterson hardly qualifies as "stretching" anything, considering he shot .410 from the field and .231 from 3 this season with the Kings. (Side note: he's shooting .510 from the field and .455 from 3 with the Raptors--what gives, Patrick?).
