Kings @ Magic Game Thread

The one thing that makes sense to me today is Kstat's suggestion that his primary interest is in a different team.

I don't hear anyone else cheering. I didn't particularly want them to hurt their lottery position, but I did want to see them play well. I didn't get either wish.

They didn't play pretty basketball, but last time I checked you didn't need to look pretty to play good basketball.

They played outstanding defense in the 2nd half and defensively rebounded extremely well. Last time I checked those were two facets of good basketball.

They were clearly dead tired playing a 4th game in 5 nights and they won a game nobody would have blamed them for mailing in. Give them some freakin credit at least, for one night.

So wait... Is the win because you lost a woss? Or is the lose because you won the woss?

This was a just plain woss. We just went from 9th draft pick to tied for 9th/10th with Minnesota, and New York and NO/OKC are now just half a game behind us. So it was a pretty critical woss at that.

LOL exactly. This game was a battle of "who wants it least". And the Magic wanted it a little less.

What a completely garbage "win". My goodness. 48 FTs? And a complete Orlando self destruct?

What a miserable miserable season.

Or maybe they wanted it (the draft position) more. Playing Detroit for them is probably little better than playing Dallas is for us. Both embarassing and self-defeating.

Well, the only way they can keep their pick is if they fall into the top-5, and that's not going to happen barring some luck with the ping pong balls.

You guys don't need another pick. You can't draft Darko again

Well, we can't get a top 5 picks, so we can't pass up Oden or Durant again.

The lower the pick, the better Dumars is at drafting, it seems.

I am hoping for Acie Law, though. If we get fortunate enough. But that's neither here nor there.

Guess I am the only one posting that wanted the Kings to win and so I am a happy fan. Want them to win again too. Annie.

No, I wanted them to win and am happy that they did. I just miss the times when we played good basketball. A win is win and I will take any that we can get.

I still can't figure out how the Kings didn't play good basketball tonight. Not everything is tied to shooting percentages and fancy dunks.

We didn't play good offense at all. The only thing we were doing well was getting to the FT line. Otherwise, too much one on one, too much isos, terrible shooting percentage, just awfull offense all around.

You'd expect a team playing 4 games in 5 nights to have tired legs, tough. They still played solid defense and rebounded really well.

Bah! I've seen too many games by both the Kings and Magic this season to confuse that with "good basketball" or a "win." We didn't win that game; they gave it away. And we didn't play good defense, either; when the other team essentially decides to play "keep away" with themselves, that doesn't make you good defenders, it makes you once lucky.

With the exception of Artest, no one on this team would know what good defense was if it walked up and kicked them in the nads.

Oh I have to vehemently disagree here.

They all pretty much know what good defense is. For some reason, however, they simply think it's not something they care to do on a regular basis...

And if it came up and kicked them in a sensitive area, I'm quite sure they'd end up getting T'd up for screaming and whining about it.

;)

I'd rather make the playoffs than get a low lottery pick, though.

For every Spurs team that tanks and is better off for it, there are dozens of teams that tank and never crawl out of the hole they dug for themselves.

Not being able to watch your team in the playoffs at all is an empty feeling. I never want to have that feeling again.

Luckily for you as long as Detroit plays their cards right this summer they won't be in the lottery for a long time. If they can re-sign Billups and Webber or even get someone less expensive but still good in a S&T for Chauncey, while keeping Amir Johnson, they will be pretty good.

Off topic but lets assume the Pistons draft Acie Law:

Their young core is:
Acie Law/Delfino/Tay/Maxiell/Johnson with 1 or 2 guys overseas/ They have their team of the future getting tutored by vets like Billups and Rip(for the guards). Or for the big men they get to learn defense and post play from Sheed while learning ball handling and passing from Webber. They have great vets to teach these guys how to play. I really like Johnson actually and from what I've heard he's been tearing up the D-League. Since he's 6'11'' with long arms and athletic, all he has to do is pay attention to what Sheed/Webb tell him and he'll be really good IMO. Once Chauncey/Webber/Sheed/Rip are done the Pistons will have a lot of cap room and they'll have a great young core.

As far as the Kings go we don't have any good big man to tutor the only young athletic guy we've got up front(Justin Williams). We don't have a center or a PF of the future. We don't even have a SF or PG of the future(Price might turn out to be a real nice PG though IMO). And the Pistons are in a unique situation, they want to win every game because they can contend right now and their future is still great. The Kings aren't great right now, or even good. And our future(unless we get a real nice big man in the lottery) isn't looking great either considering Miller, Shareef, and Thomas will be taking up big money on our salary cap for the next 3 years. We do have Kev Martin though and he makes our future pretty good but we got to surround him with a good coach and other good young players.

So as a Pistons fan you want to win every game, while as a Kings what is the point when we just hurt our future and get stomped on by the Mavs? You know what I mean?
