So it's official. The Sacramento Kings will have the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. And is anyone really surprised?

If I have to feel sorry for anyone, it's not us. We'll be okay. I'm reserving most of my pity for Blake Griffin.

"Hello, Blake?"

"Yes?"

"This is David Stern. I just wanted you to know the good news. You're going to LA!!"

"Whoa! Thank you, Mr. Stern! That's fantastic news."

"Well, I should probably clarify. You will be going to LA ... but you're going to the Clippers."

The basketball gods must really be pissed at Griffin for something. Of all the teams he could have gone to, can you imagine the heart-crushing disappointment of knowing his fate is now in the hands of Donald Sterling? That he'll be playing in Staples, but only as the junior varsity equivalent? So close yet so very, very far...

Of course, knowing Mitch Kupchak and the Lakers, they're already figuring out a way to trade Luke Walton and Derek Fisher to the Clippers for Blake and whatever else it takes to make the numbers match.

The Kings have an interesting task in front of them that just got more intriguing because of the ping pong balls. And if this doesn't prove that tanking isn't a guarantee of getting the best pick in the draft, I don't know what is.

*quiet sobbing*

you left out a part. :p but you know, this would've been his reaction even if we got the first pick, haha.

Big Deal

Griffin will get rookie max, play in LA for 3 seasons learning the job and making mistakes with no pressure. Then he will go wherever he wants because Clippers won't pay him or match the offer. Worst case scenario - the will be a FA after the lockout is over.

Well, now that my anger has simmered a bit, I acknowledge that everything happens for a reason. For whatever reason, we were supposed to get the #4 pick.

Crap! It still sucks. :(

Please do not lose any sleep over this. It is completely possible that we will end-up with the best player in the draft @ #4. It is a crap shoot this year. We will not know what kind of "luck" we had today until 5-19-14.

next decade could be much much worse

And like I said in the other lottery thread 6th, the league can take their 4th pick and shove it up their you know whats! :D

"And the fourth pick goes to.....The Sacramento Kings"

And that is our life.

I mean really, it just is. Anyone who thought we'd get anything higher was really just fooling themselves.

Funny VF thats pretty much what I was thinking when I heard the clips got the pick. I was sitting in my car wondering if someone had something against Blake Griffin.

Didn't we get the worst possible position last year, when we were in a tie with NY and IND, and we got the 12th instead of the 10th pick?

Two years in a row, we drop by at least two spots on bad luck.

This night sucks.

Lol... didn't think about that. Man this is horrible!

year after year of just BS. It's starting to get unbearable at this point wether it's all a big conspiracy or not. I will never stop being a kings fan but boy is it getting hard. And w/out league pass I can't really watch any games. At least with griffin we would have had some nationally televised games and just overall media hype. This blows

Yeah...I'm still holding out for Petrie to pull a Danny Ainge this summer and make some genius trades...hopefully...but we probably only have a 25% chance of THAT happening too.

Yep, all are media coverage just went down the drain. =/

All our media coverage? As far as I know, Comcast is planning on broadcasting all the games. Yeah, it's tough for out-of-the-area fans, but that's just part of life. There's no guarantee we would have had more national coverage with Blake Griffin. He might be the media darling right now but he's no Lebron James or even Greg Oden.

I agree with you VF about having the media darling...but what did we do in 1998 with only the 7th pick?? Exactly...we picked Jason Williams, and became a damn exciting product, and TNT added like 8 games to their schedule with the Kings that werent on there to begin with. And the following seasons we were on national TV like every 3 games. So it CAN happen, but it depends on the product on the floor, and you dont just have to have the Kobe's or LaBron's, it CAN be done without...we did it before when no one else was paying attention to us.

Being from Jersey and going to school in Virginia, I have to admit that I have only seen two Kings games all season (Cavs/Kings and Rockets/Kings) and both were through streaming websites. It really is hard to maintain alleigance to a team from out of state when they are 1)not good and 2)never on TV as a result.

Proof that the laughable Lottery System is busted.

Solution: go back to reverse order of standings!! The idea of tanking for the lottery is ridiculous.

but reverse order of standings will definitely guarantee tanking. they just need to go to a system where the kings get a top 3 pick every year, that's the fairest solution. :D

I agreed..Kings top 3 pick every years is the fairest. :D

In all serious..this system to me is as fair as it gets. Our luck just sucks.

I disagree - the worst team should have a better chance of getting a number 1 pick than a number 4, and should get a better shot at #1 than 25%. Maybe 40-30-20-10 as far as percentages go (for the sake of arguement)? I mean, really, is it fair that a team that tries but sucks into the worst record in the league gets stuck with the #4 pick more often than #1?
