Kings looking to draft Cousins

Why is it half-assed?

Well, because it's a rumor and because the original link was actually to a Twitter post. If it would have been an official statement by the Kings front office that they will draft Cousins if available, it's news. If it's a rumor told by a credible reporter, it's a rumor. But a Twitter post by some dude I've never heard of...that's what I call a half-assed rumour.

The rumour may very well turn out to be true by the end of the day, of course, I'm not arguing against that possibility. But that's a different issue.

Many sources are saying the same thing though, shouldn't that at least bump it up to plain rumor status?

Kings are going to draft Demarcus cousins

Just saw bobby Jackson at the Roseville gallaria he was picking up the new iPhone I asked him who were going to draft and he said Demarcus then was like but we will see at 4

Yeah, I'm just nervous about Minny drafting right before us. Who the heck knows what Kahn will do. Hope he doesn't screw things up for the Kings.

Not sure how reliable this is, but a wolves forum is reporting that Kahn just said he would take whoever is left of Favors or Johnson during a radio interview this morning.

edit: apparently he made the comments on the Dan Patrick Radio Show
Minnesota Timberwolves presdient David Kahn joined the show to talk about their draft strategy.
Kahn talked about who they're looking at No. 4. "We like Wes Johnson. We also like a lot Derrick Favors," Kahn said. Dan asked if Favors was there at No. 4, would they take him. Kahn said yes, because that means Johnson is gone. Same answer if Johnson is available at No. 4.
Dan asked Kahn if Johnson and Favors were there, who would he take. "I've been very open and candid. But at this point, I don't have an answer to that," Kahn said. He seems very high on both players.
Kahn also talked about DeMarcus Cousins. He turned down their invitation to work out because his agent didn't see a spot in the frontcourt rotation.
Dan also asked if the Knicks are still calling about Ricky Rubio. "I think Donnie finally understands that's not happening," Kahn said. He also said a lot of teams have called about Rubio.
Kahn said that he is also talking about some of the players on his current roster. "Up until this trade period, we've never discussed Kevin [Love] or Al [Jefferson]," Kahn said. "Certainly this is the first time with Al we've made some of those calls."
But Kahn said Jefferson is as good a back-to-the-basket player as there is in the NBA and the T'Wolves won't give them away. "We're not going to trade Al Jefferson just for the sake of trading Al Jefferson," Kahn said

This morning Consensus Draft

http://www.nba.com/2010/news/05/18/consensus.mock/index.html

Well 9 of the 12 Mocks has us taking Cousins at the 5 pick

Of the 9 Mocks 5 of them Have Favors at 3 Pick, Johnson at the 4 pick

4 of them Have Johnson at 3 Pick, Favors at the 4 pick

So as long as NJ and MInn take Favors & Johnson we are gold

Now the three nightmare senarios:

1. SI.com Has NJ taking Johnson, Minn snatching Cousins, we draft Monroe and Favors falls to GSW ?

While I could see Minn taking cousins at the C, I hate the Idea of us taking Monroe over Favors

2 Yahoo sports has Favors/Johnson at 3 and 4 pick
Then Sacto takes Monroe?, GSW takes Udoh?, Cousins drop to Detroit?

This is totally Whack! Think this is least likely nightmare

3 Hooppsworld has Johnson at 3, favors at 4, and has
Petrie taking Monroe at the 5, and cousins dropping to GSW
but again this is second least likely, I really dont see us taking Monroe
over Cousins

The only non cousins mock I am really worried about is the SI.com
If NJ does take Wesley, I am worried that Minn will take Cousins to avoid having 3 PF (Favors,BigAl,Love) and one Center Darko But I feel we would still take Favors over Monroe. I guess SI thinks both Minn and Sac would take the two Centers instead of a PF with great potential? I think this reasoning might work for Minn, but not for us! Take Favors for god sake!

Repeat after me - "It's a MOCK draft" - has no bearing on reality. What happens happens. No use getting all worked up over nothing. ;) Enhance your calm. :D

You could put all the above names in a shoebox, go to the local playground, and have the kids draw the names out.

Voila, you have a Mock Draft.

Seriously, consider all mock drafts as educated guesses.

I think I understand the "Kings will take Cousins" rumor. When the mocks started leaning heavily to Cousins being available at #5 and the Kings taking him, the FO who don't want Cousins as a first choice decided that the rumor would encourage those picking below to trade up to #4 to get him. That would mean that probably Johnson or otherwise Favors falls to us. It's called an anti Monroe strategy.

Yeah.I'm thinking NJ wouldn't mind drafting 4th. If Favors there, they get the best/safest young big that's a good compliment to Lopez. If Johnson is there, they get the best remaining wing. Combine that with Amare/Booz/Bosh, or even D. Lee and you've got a competitive team.

If NJ can pay a little less for the 4th compared with the 3rd, AND get a little candy, AND have Min. make the decision for them; I think it's a win.

My guess is that talking about Johnson was them trying to feel out Minnesota and seeing if they could pry some pieces out of them for Johnson.

How certain is it the Kings will take DMC at 5?
Chad Ford
(12:27 PM)

Can never be certain with Geoff Petrie. He always plays things close to the vest and he hates media leaks. Everything I'm hearing is that DeMarcus Cousins is the pick. What scares me is that I keep hearing it, everywhere. Very un-Kings like. I know there's a faction that really likes Greg Monroe. If the Kings take Monroe, I wouldn't be shocked.

As per Chad Ford

this draft is reminding me so much of last year. everyone wanted rubio but we never believed he would drop to us. then rumors are that he will indeed fall to us but we end up going with tyreke. hopefully we get cousins because monroe seems like a player we would have drafted 4 years ago. cousins is the perfect sidekick for tyreke. if he becomes a dominant center we, surround them with shooters and defenders and we are in good shape.

I'm a little nervous about Cousins to be honest. There's something about his demeanor that just strikes me as... off. Like he really doesn't want to be there and doesn't really care. But, he is the best talent out there besides Wall.

One thing I really like about Cousins is he loves to play basketball. He's made it this far (HS, college) so I don't doubt he will be fine down the road. The man loves the game, and to play it hard.

There will be issues, but not major imo.

4:30pm is the actual draft. The pre-show is at 4pm.

So if there is a 15 min "on the clock" period I guess its safe if I leave early from work and get home by 5 pm

4:30 Wall pick
4:45 Turner pick
5:00 NJN
5:15 Minn
5:30 We get DMC !!!!

Does anyone remember how long it took to get to our #4 pick last year?

I think its a 10 minute clock ? And the thing is you don't have to use all of the time so if I were you I would play it safe. Better safe then sorry :)

I don't think it's 15 minutes. Someone in another thread said it was ten. I looked at last year's thread and it seems like it might be 5.

Last year the fourth pick was made at 4:57 PDT according to all the posts right then.

I guess that means you better get home no later than 5pm and probably a little earlier if you don't want to take a chance.

This isn't the NFL typically they don't use all of their time. I'd say get home by 4:50 at the latest just to be safe.

Thanks for all the input guys!!!

Think I will take off at 4:15 with riding the Shovelhead I can get home by 4:40 , would like to at least see the #3 pick on

Gonna be great! I can feel it!!!

Draft starts at 4:30 PM Pacific time. Each team gets 5 minutes before they have to tell Stern their pick so that he can announce it to the world. I work and live at a storage facility, so I will be popping in and out of my apartment to see who gets who. There better not be any customers trying to rent a unit when the Kings are on the clock!:o

Yeah -- don't know where this 15 minute stuff came from. You'd be drafting until midnight! :p

Its 5 minutes between picks in the first round, 2 minutes between picks in the second round.
