Kings like Lillard according to Hoops World

If they like Jimmer then they LOVE Lillard. That's the way I see it. Lillard is a more athletic Jimmer... his game might translate a little more smoothly to the NBA. A pg that can shoot and get to the rack should never be out of consideration unless you already have a Chris Paul on your roster... I guess that's what it is here.

We have IT and he's a leader.

Lillard reminds me of stucky and brooks. Guards who were relative unknowns come draft day but solid players who we had our names attached to in terms of interest.

some more fuel to the Lillard fire.

If Kings fans didn't need another reason not to jump off a cliff, there's lots of chatter Sac is considering passing on Barnes for Lillard.

This is the time for ultimate smokescreen. Everybody is looking at each other trying to get the other guy's thoughts and say something to insure your target is there for you to pick.

There has to be a trade lined up somewhere else if that is the case. IT-Evans-Lillard-MT is just not going to work!

One of those guys has to be traded to address other needs.

Throw in Cousins, and that may be our starting lineup!

Lillard reportedly had a great workout for Portland yesterday, so they want him at 6. According to people present at the workout, he had the best workout they've seen since Durant. Here's a report on it, which includes some stuff about the Kings and their reported interest in him:

"It's the best workout we've had here since Kevin Durant," he said, echoing what others have said about that workout.

Of course, the Trail Blazers didn't take Durant in the draft -- which adds a touch of irony to the situation. Portland, this time, appears to want Lillard, though.

But there are reports today that Sacramento, sitting at No. 5, is considering picking Lillard. I would doubt the Kings are interested in a point guard that early but it would make some sense for them to frighten Portland with the possibility of doing so.

It could force the Trail Blazers to forge a deal with the Kings to switch picks, delivering the Kings a future pick or a spare second-round pick or even a player in exchange for NOT picking Lillard.

If a team comes out 2 days before the draft saying a guy just had the best workout there since Kevin Durant, does that mean they actually want to pick him? Wouldn't you want to keep that information to yourself if you really wanted him?

I don't know Lillard well enough to make judgements here, but I would just advise Portland that the last two combo guards WE had come in and god up the workouts were named Quincy Douby and Jimmer Fredette. Workouts are made for shooters and guards. You have to take them with a grain of salt.

I would think there's pretty much no chance of Lillard going top 4, so they probably know they are safe. And people already know he's their likely pick even before the workout. Although with us reportedly interested, it might have been a bad move. Still, unless they really want Drummond and are trying to lure us into taking Lillard, I'd think they are legitimate here.

Agreed. In that report it states that he barely missed a shot. That really doesn't mean much - we know he can shoot already and it's not like he's going to shoot the same in the NBA as he did in a workout. Still, Lillard is set up to be much more successful than Douby or Jimmer IMO. He's a far better ball handler and an excellent athlete. So I wouldn't bet against him. Doesn't mean he's top of my list, though. There would have to be a lot of moves if we were to take him, and I don't think it makes much sense.

When Kings pick Lillard and go ask for some reward, Portland will just pick Drummond and laugh. :p
Thing is Lillard impressed them the first time around and was invited to dinner by Paul Allen, which is pretty rare, and it happened when top-6 weren't firmly established so I guess they really like him.

So it's basically the same report we heard out of Sacramento then. Maybe Portland is trying to talk us into drafting Lillard so they can have Drummond? This sure is a fun draft year. I'm either going to be really happy on Thursday or inconsolable. Just pick someone who can play defense Petrie. I'll forgive the rest. There's good defenders all through this draft, including the top 5, and that hardly ever happens. You almost have to try to miss them this time.

is our FO smart enough to use this rumor to squeeze portland's 6 and 11 or more likely 6 and a 2nd rounder out of them for the #5 pick and still get mkg at #6?

My fear is that Portland would float this around hoping that the Kings do make some sort of deal, then they end up snagging MKG with the 5th pick leaving us with a choice of Drummond/Barnes/Lillard.

If they don't want to pay Batum, going with MKG would be a good consellation prize.

I'd rather have MKG at #5, then risk going 6th and missing out on him if he's there.

Now if we're at the #5th pick and we really like Lillard and MKG/Robinson isn't available, maybe you try to pressure Portland into that deal...but I don't see it working.

Lillard's name keeps popping up. If you are thinking that while IT is a major find at 60 last year, but ultimately really just a back up PG. Then Lillard starts making a little more sense. Is he a better fit next to Tyreke than IT? He might be what they were hoping to get with Jimmer in a better athletic and defensive skill package. Lillard's shooting is a nice fit with Tyreke and no size matchup issues. If true, would be the second draft in a row that Petrie took a shooter to try and compliment Reke. I don't laugh off this rumor because Petrie does not sound like the type to pick an MKG if he's there.

I think we are due for another lynch Petrie party soon. I can almost feel it...

And next question, can you move Jimmer and get a 12-18 pick and go for one of the SF weve been working out?

Portland has been very consistent this offseason in referring to Batum as oen of their two cornerstosnes. Now IMO Aldridge as a cornerstone is >>>>>>>>>>>>> Batum as a "cornserstone", but Portland is building Batum up as that. I think 99% of the Batum stuff out there is just wishful thinking from other fans.

the pick frankly makes little sense. ANOTHER gunner guard? You just have to shake your head after awhile.

This front office does some things don't make sense. I think they defer to the coach too much on their final decision. Lillard isn't my choice, but this seems like one of those years where someone obvious is going to drop and they are going to pass on them. Whether they keep the pick or trade it. Just has that feel that Geoff has a big "up yours" ready for the fans.
