Kings @ Lakers Game Thread

The Lakers should score that many. I think people should at least acknowledge that the Kings have scored 105 off of their defense. And that's without Kevin Martin.
I'd also like to have seen Jason down the stretch a little more...
But I'm not unhappy with this game. We have a lot of potential and room for growth.

I'm happy with the performance, the Kings did alright against that huge front line and their bench fought back. It was more than I expected to see the Kings go into Staples and score over 100 w/out Kevin Martin.
They'll be a pretty good offensive team once Martin and Garcia return, that's our two best shooters and when you see Brad Miller fire up 2 three-pointers in the first quarter it makes you miss having those two on the floor.

0-5 from our centers was a number that never should have happened.

Brad Miller was awful today. Just chucking, awful defense, no rebounding, soft fouls... Only redeeming quality was his passing.

It seems to me the Lakers were a bit lackadaisical with their defense, because we got tons of dunks and open shots which really helped with our offensive momentum. But whatever they give us...it gave Bobby Brown a career night and brought back memories of Bobby Jackson's instant off the bench offensive explosions. Salmons did himself well too, as did Thompson early on...Hawes picked up garbage points late. As usual, and not quite surprisingly, our defense is pretty awful. Granted the Lakers can score with ease with all their weapons (and they threw nearly 120 on us tonight), but we have to make that part of the game more respectable if we are to make gains on the win column. Because, as this game shows, even though we fared well offensively, no matter how many points we put up, on over 50%+ shooting yet again (as with Portland),....we still find ways to lose. Acceptable in the sense that we remain slightly competitive against top tier teams while losing to gain an edge in the lottery, but unacceptable if we were a team really looking to win.

By the way, I don't want to sound too down, as I do think our team fared well and brought out one of its best efforts against a top two team in the league. Salmons showed up, Thompson showed up, and both Bobbies were impressive in particular. Great learning process for Brown, and Thompson is really ratcheting that consistency and is actually showing stealing potential (a good thing).

Yeah, Spencer's really showing that part of his game. He's willing to mix it up down there and has pretty good length.

Man, I wish Brad had the same fire he had in Chicago. He was still a whiny punk, but at least he was aggressive and physical then.

Yeah, Brads a panzy now. He does alot of things right but he is just not physical enough. Its ridiculous that players like trevor ariza can basically abuse him on the boards. I think we need to trade him with a pick or 2 for a brute of a center.

Brad jumps only 2 or 3 times during any game ... it is like he has muscleless legs.

Yeah, I was going to compare Spencer to Brad in my previous response, but I didn't feel like denigrating him then...but since you brought it up, I was going to say that I'm glad that Spencer has shown different aspects than Brad--as a guy who had Brad Miller thrown as a comparison to him on draft night, he's shown that he's willing to fight inside, isn't a real pansy on the boards, can score in the low post, and is a very capable shotblocker. I know he's a lottery pick, but I think he's shown many more facets of his game than what was known of him at the time he was drafted. Impressive.
As for Brad, wholeheartedly agree. But don't forget, though, as a groundbound center who played defense using his supposed tenacity, okay mobility and toughness as opposed to any real athleticism and length, he couldn't have maintained that over the course of his 10 year career. But with Brad, with varying conditioning levels and varying effort levels, there's obviously going to nights like this where he'll do nothing, even with his offensive game, but unlike other players he can't fall back on his physical tools to make other plays.

Yup. I am very proud of this team and i am LOVING jason Thompson. I dont know about anyone else but i have a strong feeling that in two years or so...we will be back to where we belong as a team, and that is being at or near the top of the League.
On the negative side of things...Brad and Douby need to Get off of this team ASAP. I know everyone continues to talk about how he is a mentor to spencer and all of that but no, its time to go, simple as that.

I wouldnt be surprised if Petrie is trying to shop Brad. There's been rumors of it floating around every now and then for the past couple months..
Hawes has been solid. Brad had a bounce back year but seems to be reverting. GP better get on it our we wont be getting much for the ole B-52 bomber.
I dont know what we could really get for him...Probably not much more then we got for Bibby...But hell, at this point move him for an expiring and a second round pick.

I agree with all of that. Unfortunately, as much as i want him off this team, i know he will probably end up being worth more in the offseason rather then the trade deadline, because of that expiring contract.

The problem with the value attached to expiring contracts is that their value to other teams is if they can dump longer term contracts back on you the other way. Something we do not want to do. For our purposes a more modest little package for the future of kids/picks is far more valuable than picking up two more Kenny Thomas's.
