[Game] Kings @ Knicks, 1/14, 4:30PM (PT)

Dally is so bad on offense. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

He drained that jumper.. Then the next time down the floor I am saying "IT'S JUST A FLUKE! DON'T DO IT AGAIN!" and sure enough he shot another jumper that barely hit rim. He need's to leave the offense to the offensive players.

And how many times did we throw it into Daly or have him dribble in and end up being trapped along the baseline? Or when we give it to him at the top of the key and the defense just totally backs off. Daly destroys us on offense because we keep giving him the ball

It's hard to blame him too much when our dumbo guards keep passing him the ball in the first place. We play keep away from Tyreke and Cousins down there, but we're all too willing to let Dally go to work with his amazing offense.

Well teams usually leave him open when he's out on the perimeter - for good reason. It's an easy pass for the guards and Dally has never found a wide open shot he didn't like even if he usually misses them... I think it's really to get Dally to realize he needs to make an extra pass because he's not a high % shooter out there..

Well, I actually don't mind too much when they pass it to him in the high post like that. He's a pretty decent passer and he sees the floor well. In fact, we should have our guards cut to the basket more often when he does have the ball out there. My issue is when he's asking for the ball in the low block when we have far superior options in Cousins and Landry out there with him usually. And our guards pass it to him anyway. Why not swing it around to Cousins' side of the ball if you're going to do that? Or even Tyreke for that matter? Set him up on the block against the Knicks' scrawny guards.

How come Donte cant even get on the court?

Did you watch the game? Donte was laughing it up on the bench the whole time. Coach implementing shorter rotations and it worked tonight. What's curious is how Donte Greene is more interested in joking around during the game than paying close attention it would seem. He rarely if ever is seen over in Kings huddles during timeouts seeing what coach is saying and drawing up. Maybe coach notices his inattentiveness. Maybe he does similar slacker routine in practice. Maybe coach thinks he's more of a clown that a serious NBA player wanting to get better. Donte Greene got garbage time earlier in this road trip - maybe he'll get some more as the long trip winds down.

lol, there was one possession, i forget the details, but it was a call against us which frustrated some of our players, the camera zooms in on our bench and theres Donte with a big cheesy grin on his face

edit: my mistake, it wasnt after a bad call, it was after a careless turnover by Tyreke, who didnt seem too happy about it

i find it funny how everybody complains about greene not taking things seriously and sucking when he does play and they still complain when coach doesnt play him. which is it? Personally, i dont think he deserves minutes if hes going to eff around all the time no matter what. hes getting paid good money and isnt doing crap to improve. hes really just a wasted roster spot imo and i dont see how he will become anything other than that. doesnt have the work ethic and never will from the looks of it. hes had what? nearly two and half years now to get it together? not very promising to me.

That's why a team needs real vets to push guys to work hard and all. Lots of superstars started on decent teams with mentors to guide them and were forced to work hard, and that's with them already having great talent coming out of high school or college. But a guy also needs to be rewarded for his effort. The big question none of us can really answer for sure, is whether Donte is simply not putting in the effort to make coach want to play him, or if he's putting in the effort but isn't getting rewarded for it, and maybe as a result he's not putting in more effort because he feels like he's just going to get yanked anyway

I think people routinely conflate two separate issues -- Donte's work ethic, and his current PT. One is not about the other, except as a developmental concern, and Westphal's record on that fornt is mixed at best across the rest of the roster.

Donte's work ethic relates to his FUTURE value, his potential.

Donte's current minutes should at least relate to what he brings right now. Not about his work ethic. But can he help? And while people love to chirp about this or that the fact is yes he can, as a defender.

As a further aside, I take Donte's smile as exactly the opposite. Team guy, even in the worst of times for him personally. That's to be celebrated, not knocked, especially in his situation -- more selfish plays have turend positively toxic under such circumstances.

Wow, some of you guys extrapolate way too much. So donte having a good attitude and enjoying a win is a bad thing? You guys really think he's goofing around and not paying attention because he's smiling and high fiving his teammates? Would you prefer he root against us? How could you possibly equate having a positive attitude on the bench to a poor work ethic? The way Westphal has been treating him (starter to scrub to starter to zero minutes) is downright stupid. I applaud him for keeping his head up and cheering his teammates on. I don't remember anyone upset with mateen cleaves back in the day. The way small forwards burn Francisco and omri on a nightly basis is reason alone to give donte some minutes. Even if we intend to trade him were killing his value. I do not understand.

i guess im being a little bit hard on him but its frustrating hearing everybody talk about potential and how he could be our third star someday and then when he does get in the game he makes one good move and the rest is all crap. I want this team to get better and i just think a big part of that is donte becoming an integral part of it.

It's not just 1 or 2 nice plays it's how much more fluidly the team plays when he's in. He's a team player.
