We need to feed Keegan more when he’s on fire. Set up some plays for him or something, especially if Fox is gonna more passive than usual in the clutch. Why did we repeatedly go to a struggling Domas against a great defensive big in Kessler when Keegan was on fire?

This team is kind of what it is. They can't get down 20+ to almost anyone. It's like there just isn't enough time in the game to get all the way back and keep a lead. The Kings are good for about 2 decent defensive quarters a game. 40 in the 1st and 33 in the 4th to the Jazz is pretty bad.

No need to be super dramatic about this one. Kings have largely avoided these kind of performances all season, Still clawed back for a chance to win and ran out of steam at the end of the game. After the 40 point 1st quarter, we held them to 28, 27, 33 the following 3.

3-1 road-trip and now 11-3 since the all-star break with an absolutely brutal schedule that everyone thought we'd be like 3-11 in.

Kessler is a beast. God, I would love to have him here. But, no way Jazz ever get rid of this guy. They have a gem.
He's going to be susceptible to the same issue that gets a lot of these goalie bigs though. Teams are just going to be able to space and small ball him right off the floor.

You saw the Jazz try to counteract that by playing zone the entire game but the Kings were still able to run circles around him on plays that weren't just us pounding the ball into Domas in the post for some reason.

The key for him is going to be developing into enough of an offensive weapon that the Jazz can play him anyways unlike with how things got with Gobert anytime a team would go five out on them.

All about context of the L. Now third because Dallas sucks. Another L looming tomorrow. We needed this one.

Yeah but the beautiful part for the Jazz is that he is paid peanuts for the next three seasons, and he is already better and more playable than Gobert (imo). What a coup of a trade.

Domas was just awful. Plenty of time he got the drop on Kessler through the game and just blew the layup. It’s probably the hand because he wasn’t a guy that missed so many chip shots before that. It was really bad tonight but he misses a couple of them per game where it’s like “how in the hell does he miss that?”. Usually one or two. Tonight it was about 5 of them. His worst performance since the 0-4 start.

reserve forwards Lyles and Metu provided no relief. Mitchell was awful. TD was awful. Edwards was bad. A turtle could get these guys jumping.

missed free throws, bad rebounding, trash defense in the fourth quarter.

terrible loss heading into the Boston game where we are sure to be hearing the old “first home game after a long road trip” excuse early. Like we heard the “last game of a road trip” one tonight.

disappointing

Some reason = Trey Lyles playing with a bum shoulder.

Yes, you can scheme Kessler off the court by going small. Sacramento's small-ball center is... Lyles.

That was a little puzzling that they pushed Keegan away from that far corner gap. He was just spot shooting and hitting almost everything. It also opened up that drive he made. Now, the Jazz did stop giving the Kings the drive from that far corner at a certain point or at least did challenge at the rim but still. Keep going to what's working.

He has struggled recently against longer bigs, like Lopez. He hesitates a little too much instead of going up strong when he goes up against these bigger guys

Barnes lose the game imo. He failed to close in quickly leaving a Jazz player wide open for the 3 when the game tied up. His team defense as far as rotating is suspect imo. He also missed two wide open 3s. Brown should have gone with Kessler imo.

Kessler did a really good job on Sabonis but Domas should have been to the line at least 2 more times and he missed a couple shots early that were easy. Still almost had a trip dub on an off night for him

The context is we're 11-3 post all-star break. 3-1 road trip. We're not a perfect basketball team that's going to keep that pace up the rest of the season.

Bad loss, obviously, but in context, this was always going to be a tough game, even with the Jazz starters out.

Where I would actually be disappointed is if we just quit after that 1Q, packed it in and let it be a blow-out game the rest of the 2nd half. They didn't do that, they clawed back and gave themselves a chance to win despite playing their worst 1Q all season.

I put this one on Brown. Not sure what the hell he was doing riding Monk and Lyles so hard tonight. They didn't have it. Combined 5-21 shooting. Monk was a -24 in 23 minutes, Lyles a -9. And for no reason at all, we didn't see Kessler Edwards again after that first 6 minute rotation where we CAME BACK INTO THE FREAKING GAME. Keegan Murray couldn't miss and he got phased out of the game for basically all the 4th quarter. Kessler-Keegan-Barnes should have been the closing wings.

wasted a monstrous performance by De'Aaron.. the Fox should stop taking 3's crowd is in shambles

our bigs got stomped across the board..

our bench got stomped across the board... honestly Kris Dunn fresh off the G-League scrapheap was 10x better than Davion in this game.

I wouldn't make excuses for Sabonis in this one, I'm sure he wouldnt make those excuses for himself. Good thing we've won enough games where its of minor consequence.

Not the best look that we cant overtake a Morant-less, Adams-less Memphis squad. It is what it is though, getem next time.

Games like this show how much room their is for improvement on this roster.. If we cut the right fat n replace it properly this squad hits the next level. Huerter was sorely missed.

I would really hesitate on re-signing Barnes for anything other than a 6th man role if we want to the a step next year. He’s quietly been showing signs of aging. His defense has been OK at best and will likely continue to get worse every year as he ages..
