Kings Have Signed John Salmons - Bye, Bye Bonzi!!

From a Sixers fan on Realgm:

"Gentlemen and Ladies:
I almost feel bad for you, but considering our experience with C-Webb's defense, one good turn deserves another.
John Salmons is universally hated in Philadelphia as a dog with an attitude. He is arguably the worst defensive player to wear a Sixers uniform in the recent history of the franchise, worse that C-Webb and with none of the class and heart.
He single-handedly lost 5-10 games for us last year by his lack of hustle and his matador defense. Allen Iverson calls him a 'girl'. We can't wait until Ron gets his piece. And he makes Kenny Thomas look like an all star. You've got him for three years? four years? five years?
Good luck. We'll be watching closely."

most encouraging. Clarifies why Petrie likes him a bit tho

k, just vomitted in my mouth a little.

The only way we will not get outrebounded by 30 every night is if Miller averages 15+ plus boards a game (impossible for him) and all of our guards would average at least 3 or 4.

And this is a good reason why we generally don't post quotes from other fans on other message boards.

Who cares?

You can find someone who loves him, too, if you look. But, once again, who cares what Sixers fans are saying. We have a long and honorable tradition of giving a new player a chance and NOT going on what is posted elsewhere. Why should this be any different?

Thing is, we just used up the money that would have gone to Bonzi, whether in a sign or trade or not. If we sign and trade Bonzi now we end up over the tax threshhold.

The $$ now become a huge concern. Signing John Salmons is just...whatever. Signing him for 5yrs at the MLE or whatever is insane.

i was thinking... ok no freaking team is that dumb to pay him more than toronto... UGH! this is a very bad move :(

I wake up from my Siesta to THIS news. It reminds of the Christmass morning when I ran into the living room to see what Santa brought only to findmy drunk father passed out under the Christmass tree with a half put together tricycle *sniff*

Lmao :D.

When ever a player or his agent say that then you know they are telling fibbs. There is not a player out there that thinks its not about the money. They all know its about the money but not many of them say it publicly. Those that do are often ridculed and made out to be mercenaries.

Exactly, but he did say it, and some people on this board did believe it. It just simply wan't true. He wanted more than we could give them.

In that case is Garcia gone, Brick?

Tell me Magloire is coming and I'll accept it.

With no Bonzi, and now just Salmons, I would think it becomes more important to KEEP Garcia than it was. You could try to replace him with Salmons, but to tell you the truth I think that might be a step back, and with no Bonzi either it leaves Kevin out on an island surrounded by not much.

In any case, we just took yet another major talent hit and have less spare talent than ever to bring in help with.

I posted somewhere that indications are Salmons will be utilized primarily as the backup for Bibby.

John F'ing Salmons... I was all excited when it was announced the Kings were going to sign someone... Until I found out it was John F'ing Salmons... Salmons (if he is indeed Bibby's backup... Will be like Hart squared... While making the MLE...)

Hart is like .25% as good as a normal PG...does that mean Salmons is (.25)^2 = .0625% as good as a normal guard!?!?....friggen petrie is like .0625% as good as a normal GM right now...i can tell you that for sure...

Uh....this is a fan board. We're all fans regardless of what team and I think a Sixers fan might be able to shed some light on things. I just posted that cuz it's the only thing I saw relating to Salmons, not because it was so bad. If you're philosophy is let's give everyone a chance and not care what people think, what's the point of posting anyting at all? It's just interrupting the pure untainted chance-giving.

wtf??  what a damn joke. petrie just took a huge crap on all of us. i feel like i'm going to puke. what the hell kind of move is this????? ridiculous. can't believe all this waiting for this bs move. thanks petrie, i'm sure we will enjoy the mediocrity.

What a surprise, panic, pre-maturity, and pessimism. *yawn*

Yes, this is a fan board. It's a KINGS fan board. It's not a realgm Sixers board. If I really cared about what one Sixer fan is saying, I could go find it myself, thank you very much.

Now if YOU yourself have an opinion, fine. Share it. I don't agree with you all the time, but I respect your opinion because you are a member HERE and I've read a number of your posts.

I'm not gonna get my panties in a bunch over some guy on a realGM Sixer board. He has no crediblity whatsoever with me. If that offends you, I'm sorry but that's the way it is.

For all I know, this guy has the basketball acumen of a dead squirrel.

LOL! poor guy..

I gotta agree with Captain Bill. The opinion of a guy is best from someone that watches him day in and day out. We can't exactly say what Salmons will be like AS A KING. But we can get a pretty damn good idea from the 76'ers...

You have to admit your reaction was pretty over the top, drama wise, atxrocker.

No one says you have to be happy, but geez. Did it have to be freaking this and crap that?

I can't believe some of this stuff. I've seen over-reacting before, but this is unbelieveable. It's part of the MLE. We didn't just sign him to a $80 million, 6 year deal. And we don't know what else Petrie has planned.

It was abundantly clear that Bonzi wanted more than we were ever going to give. So Petrie tried but apparently no one else wants to pay Bonzi either, hence no sign-and-trade.

So, Petrie got a versatile player who may or may not work out, but none of us knows for sure.

I really don't understand the angst and anger over this. It's simply not that big a deal, IMHO. I'm willing to wait and see what else happens.

Peace.

Everybody panicking here needs to CALM DOWN. Some of us are under the impression that we signed and traded Bonzi for Salmons. Not true. Bonzi is WALKING. That means we get NOBODY for him. What most likely has happened is that the Kings made a reasonable offer and Bonzi thought he was worth more so he is looking elsewhere. Now, with Bonzi gone, we have the MLE to use, so we use it on Salmons. Why not a Big man? Take one look at the Free Agent market. There is NOBODY worth taking anymore. Better to sign a good talent available and use him as a trade throw-in.

Use your heads people.

For all I know, this guy has the basketball acumen of a dead squirrel.

while that may true, i'll go on good faith that he's like most of us: a fan of a sports team who has a more informed opinion about said sports team (especially more informed than my own).

not totally...the offensive system, as I pointed out a few times before...is skewed horribly and doesnt allow for players of Salmons abilities to really do much of anything.

Ah, indeed.... just shouldn't be so final and agitated about the whole situation :). Not saying you have to love it.

Bad move.

I don't see the point of Drafting Douby/Cisco when you are going to bring in a free agent to essentially do the same things you want them to do at a much higher price. If you don't think Douby can get the job done at back-up PG, or as Kevin's backup and you don't think Cisco can bring the ball up and spell Kevin/Artest, then what's the point of drafting them? If you think it will take a few years for them to develop then why sign Salmons for 5 years, it will only stunt our young guys growth.

Sorry, but I've seen any number of "fans" of various teams who don't have a clue OR who have their own agenda. I'll read comments from our members here because we at least have a feel for what they're saying.

Quoting some person from another board, however, is entirely different. And no offense to people who post at realGM, but I'm not real impressed with a lot of the people who are in the various forums there.

Claiming to be a fan of a particular team doesn't immediately give someone knowledge of said team or credibility, at leat not in my book. That has to be earned.

Now, if we had any Sixer members here, I'd be interested in reading what they have to say.

This is a good move, guys. I said it in the other thread, but this seems to be where the party is.

I know it'd hard to see a player who just had a monster playoff series go, but I think with Martin waiting behind him at SG that this was the right move.

Actually, Salmons will most likely backup Bibby at the point which is, I think, better to begin with than throwing an unproven rookie into the mix.

We needed more depth on our bench anyway. We just promoted one of our best bench players into a starting slot.

Drafting players is entirely different than signing free agents. And this could foretell future moves. We simply do not know.

I'm more worried about what we're going to do about our frontcourt now than anything else.
