Kings have reached an agreement in principle to make Pete D'Alessandro GM

I just had an odd thought, not that this is unusual. We have been fussing over who the Kings should draft. Now we have a GM who has worked with Malone, probably knows the Kings quite well, and is very good. He even adds some respect to the Kings horrible reputation. For the first time in a long time I trust that whoever we pick will be picked for a purpose and it will make sense.

If he brings Iggy with him, I will not complain that he is too short.

Iggy, that is. :)
 
I'm smiling. Let's move on. Just read a good article which I googled - an interview a year or two ago by his law school almamater - NSU. Interesting guy.
 
The best news is that we didn't hire Wallace and the other retreads. The below tidbit from the Denver Post is just icing on the cake:

"As for D'Alessandro, he is respected in NBA circles for his creative statistics analysis and for his grasp of the salary cap."

Great hire.
 
My only problem with this is that he comes from the Denver system. As long as he doesn't believe they had it right with the run n gun pile of good but not great approach, its all good.
 
If the Kings needed permission to interview him, it doesn't look a planned move. considering the names available, looks like a decent move, just need another advanced mind in the front office assisting
 
I like the move. The Denver brain trust (including coach Karl) had been among the most highly regarded in the league until they dismantled it recently. We're getting a guy who has been fully immersed in the draft (for Denver), so there shouldn't be an issue with him getting up to speed for the Kings draft. No doubt, he's going to be doing some hiring to improve the scouting staff for future drafts. I'll ditto all the posters who said they didn't want a retread. It's very exciting to be a Kings' fan these days. Couldn't be happier.
 
I suspect we are seeing that Ranadive is willing to spend money where other small market teams aren't. Hey, I can hope.

Apparently he was who everyone thought would take over the GM spot in Denver. He must see the writing on the wall in Denver. Maybe the Maloofs bought a minority ownership in Denver ???!! :p Their organization seems to be disintegrating faster than a Malooof-owned business.

hah, early on in the chris wallace thread, i had this to say:

it appears that i was half-right, and that d'alessandro's confidence in demarcus cousins was in line with ranadive's vision for the team, and was likely a big part of the reason he got the GM job...

given the other names floated about in the kings' GM search, i'm satisfied with this hire. i'm a bit apprehensive about having two rookies at their respective positions in the organization, considering how important the head coach and GM are to the direction of a team, but if mike malone and pete d'alessandro come as advertised, hopefully there's a bright future ahead in sacramento...
 
I'd be willing to bet Wallace is hired in the next 48 hours to work along with D'Allesandro. They'd actually make for a nice tandem when you think about it.
 
Yeah Vivek will get another quality mind in that front office no doubt.. but whoever ends up there, I suspect the coaches and ownership will have maybe a higher degree of input in the personnel decisions under this regime, which I'm comfortable with
 
I love the new hires by Ranadive so far. These feelings of optimism and hope are a welcome change compared to the last few seasons. Can't wait to see what improvements are gonna be made to the team and roster over the next few months

You are a freaking genius, Padrino. :) This may be one of the few times in the history where a person is hired in part because he will hang in there with a problem athlete. Ranadive has voiced his support of DFC and now we have a GM who supports him. Doesn't seem like he'll be traded, does it? Interesting analysis and interesting move.
 
People should keep in mind Vivek's philosophy for running a company: like a jazz band, not like a marching band follpwing a conductor. This will be a team oriented front office with input .from the coach, where everyone brings different important skills. But clearly Malone will have a lot of say as to the style of play a nd players, which makes complete sense when you think about it. Similar to a Spurs model.

Good stuff.

It seems unlikely that we'd be able to sign Iggy and keep Evans. Just too much money to lock into similar players, and our cap situation isn't great without using the amnesty on Salmons. My fear is that he choses Iggy over Evans.
