Kings get DDV, Trey Lyles, Josh Jackson & trade Marvin Bagley III to Pistons in 4 team trade.

He's a nice throw in to a deal we'd have done anyways. Kings traditionally get high mileage off those guys, but I don't have many expectations, I'd like to see him rehabbed just a smaller bit and sent off in the next deal. But who knows, he's on his last legs and has incentive to play for a change.
The great thing is the Kings don’t have to rely on Josh Jackson magically rediscovering his talent to be a successful team. In past years, we’d be asking Josh to play 40 minutes for us in the next game.

He's a guy 2-3 years ago I'd have said "let's take a flyer on", I think mentally he might be in a better space and he's just here now. Not sure his contract terms but it looks like he's done at the end of the year which basically makes this as quick and dirty a peep as possible. Kinda like a one night stand with your high school crush.

I wouldn't have. Jackson actually has negative win shares for his career. I think Bagley has like 6. Neither player is very good but Jackson is on a whole other level of sucky compared to Bagley.

With the context that he was done as a King after this season, I'm glad they got something for him. More than I would have guessed

Josh Jackson should change to his afro hair...he seems to play better. Same with De'Aaron Fox...his hair during his rookie year look awesome...then he started to cut it short.

Glad the Kings got rid of some of these low IQ ballers that haunted this team for years. I am talking about Bagley and Buddy Hield. Buddy Hield...Mr. No defense getting exploited and the "so what" or "my bad" constantly happened that I am sure all fans got used it over the years. Bagley, the low IQ baller that know only one way to play...attack regardless how many defenders are in the middle. Plus we don't have to deal with delusional dad complaining about how precious his son is when giving minutes.

I've said for a long time that Marvin was going to have a 10 year career. He's a bit of an odd fit in today's NBA as more of a traditional PF, but he's a natural scorer who can score in transition, in the post, and when attacking the basket. He's a natural rebounder who will improve there with experience and who will most likely continue to improve his outside shot. His defensive improvement this year was also substantial. but largely ignored because Kings fans had pretty much given up on him.

I'm not sad to see Bagley go. That needed to happen for both sides. And I think Marvin understands now what he needs to do to carve out a career in the NBA. And I think he will.

I get why a lot of Kings fans didn't care for Bagley. But personally, I was a lot more frustrated by Buddy Hield. At least Bagley looked like he was giving effort when he got opportunities, regardless of what his dad was saying on Twitter. But Buddy looked completely apathetic this season. If DiVincenzo is the backup SG the difference will be night and day. DDV is all hustle, grit, and basketball IQ. Between him, Holiday and Harkless, the Kings have a trio of smart, defensive wings who will mesh well with Sabonis because they all make great off ball cuts.

Time will tell if this version of the Kings is a clear improvement, but I definitely see the logic in McNair's moves.

Part of moving on from Bagley, is how clear it became to many of us as to how fragile his body is. Just an injury waiting to happen at any time and a big liability if for nothing else, because you can't rely on him maintaining a rhythm through consistent time on the floor

Your obsession with the 3 is mind bogging.

They need to stop hunting 3s and take what they get when open. This is what Joerger had them doing.

Take the catch and shoot 3. Stop the off the dribbles.

The 3 pt % will go up.

Thus team will live on The drives and getting teams in foul trouble.

drives won’t mean crap if the entire opposing teams is standing 1 step from the lane because no one on the Kings is a threat to space the floor.

Sabonis is going to get them way more catch and shoot 3’s. They haven’t had that player in a while (Cousins could do it - but he didn’t trust his shooters).

true and if their catch and shoot three percentages were good that would be telling. To date other than Barnes that hasn’t been the case. We shall see. Players can get better but if you don’t acknowledge it’s a concern your head is in the sand.

DDV is going to fit right in with Sabonis and the new crew. He's such an intelligent player and really found a way to be impactful for the Bucks, despite being the 4th-5th option behind Giannis/Middleton/Jrue.

I think so too. But he is still coming back from injury and medicals are a concern. So we may not see anything until next year.

Probably the same reason once upon a time I was excited when we acquired Derrick Williams. There is the hope a change of scenery triggers whatever they may have seen in him as a draft asset. Maybe they feel like he could be used in a different way than we did. I'm guessing Marvin becomes a journeyman, but it's not like the Pistons really gave up a TON to get him. Now they have his rights and if things start clicking for him they have another major young piece.

But, seems like these reclamation projects rarely pan out (did I mention my excitement of us nabbing Derrick Williams)

he did start to play decent defense after Doug’s coaching. But Marvin has to find a way to stay healthy.

we kind of still have that guy with Josh Jackson. I’m hoping he can become Doug 2.0 working directly with Doug.

This is a pretty good trade for us. Hopefully DDV can come back from his injury issue to regain the type of game that he showed last season. He fits really well on this team long term.

If you look at the roster before and roster after all these trades, we are a better team now. You may not agree with the strategy or the path chosen but, for the path chosen, the trades have been pretty effective.

yep we have some potential we didn’t have and that’s reason for hope. But let’s not kid ourselves either.

DDV was let go for cheap because he has medical issues he may not fully recover from.

Haliburton was desired over Fox because Fox’s shooting has regressed.

Our line-up has numerous players without great spot-up or FT percentages.

It could all work out or it could come crashing down. But we know the guard/center roster with no wings sucked so via the trade route it offers some hope. It’s at least a direction.

Reality is that only DDV and maybe Lyles (in a Lawrence Funderburke sparingly used bencher) are keepers from this haul. Even DDV depends on how he returns from the injury and whether he can rediscover his game from last season.

yeah though Jackson intrigues me.

DDV was let go for cheap because the Bucks have absolutely no cap space and didn't want to re-sign him in the offseason (and at the time they thought they had depth at his position with Conaughton and Allen). If they had unlimited money, he would have been back.

Not really excited about any of these guys but they add versatility and athletic ability long gone are the days that Wenyan Gabriel was meant to be a 3 and D guy and whoever that supposed defensive specialist (completely forgot his name) he got cut and never picked up by anyone else. The roster construction is solid right now with a few tweaks next year could be legit.

Maybe. I hear the medicals are a concern but who knows how that plays out. Medicals were a concern for Giles and Anunoby.

Hopefully he's rounding into shape, but here's some Bucks Fans comments on DDV:

"
Hasn’t DDV been horrid since returning from injury? I know he’s shooting in the twenties from three. I actually like Detroit taking a flyer on Bagley.

Don't know if I would say horrid, but yeah he has been pretty bad. About a half step slower than before and not shooting well.

I think he will rebound eventually. Playing a bit better as of late.

Correct. Perfect buy low target as well
Won't cost Kings much even if it doesn't work out

At his best, you're getting a guard that can handle the ball, fast/athletic/agile, high end perimeter defender, and average to below average 3 point shooter. His biggest weakness is that he is absolutely terrible at finishing at the rim, but this is fixable (just needs to get stronger). Also has some erratic passes at times, but that has improved over the last couple years.

I think his shooting will continue to get better (above average in a couple years?)

One concern is that he has been a little injury prone, but the last injury was basically a freak injury (Goran Dragic is a scumbag pos)

Another plus for Sacramento is that they may be able to get him on a cheap deal due to how bad he's been this year. I'm guessing something like 10mx2.

I wish him all the best, solid young player. Hoping he turns in a 15/5/4 type with high end defense."

Mark Jones out here throwing around fluff that agents and coaches throw him like he's Won in his follow up tweets after breaking a trade

I actually wouldn’t be shocked if Lyles starts If Gentry opts to keep his starting lineup similar to Wednesday night with Barnes at the 3. His game doesn’t conflict with Domas and he is more reliable than Metu pretty much everywhere

Andrew Greif: There it is: The Clippers’ trade today is now official. In addition to Hood and Ojeleye, the Clippers are receiving *drum roll* the draft rights to Vanja Marinkovic. The Clippers sent Sacramento draft rights to David Michineau

David Michineau? Anybody have any info on this guy?

Drafted 39th by Pels in 2016 draft from france
6'4" PG 180 lbs

maybe 3rd string PG?

Filler, per Carmichael Dave. Some trade rules concerning "touch" between diff teams.

Yea, I like Lyles. Long. Shoots well enough. A more mature Metu?

He's having a down season after returning from injury. Being a young guy, I think he should make a full recovery. High IQ guy that does smart plays on offense and defense. Great pickup by Monte.
