The Game Thread Dude
A brief aside from your humble writer:
Whew. Hey guys, it's been a while. Sorry for the lack of game threads over the past couple of weeks. Without turning this into a post about my other creative endeavors and stuff, I'll just say that I've had and still have a ton of other things going on that also require my attention. But hey, life goes on and I'll be here writing about Kings basketball or something semi-related to that whenever my increasingly busy schedule allows me to. That said, it would be nice if I had a back up or two willing to chip in and help out whenever things get too hectic for me to write stuff. Please, if you are at all interested in getting a little writing experience or simply having a forum to air your various grievances, let me or our illustrious forum mother (VF21) know either through a PM or a post here. Thanks for your patience and now on with the show!
I post this only because Kris Humpries may have the derpiest expression ever captured in the course of an NBA game.
R.I.P. Marcus Thornton Era (2010-2014)
Pouty Face
And thus begins the post-Marcus Thornton era of the Sacramento Kings. Dark, dark times are upon us folks. Without the reflection of the arena lights from Marcus's increasingly hair follicle deficient head, Arco Arena is now officially 50% darker. (I can make jokes about MT going bald since it's happening to me too, so there!)
And in his place? A guy who'll spend the rest of the season in Dallas rehabbing his aging body and a guy who may or may not just be Quincy Acy with a headband. But don't get so down, Kings fans. I'm pretty sure an egg just hatched in Reggie Evans's beard.
I can remember hating Reggie Evans since just about the first time he played against the Kings. An undersized, under-talented big dude, the man just didn't seem to be very good at anything aside from being mean and angry at the world. That said, the dude could still rebound with the best of them, mainly because the other team is so scared of him that they usually just high-tail it in the opposite direction. And now he's on the Kings.
Reggie Evans also plays defense with his feet.
The thing is that the Kings pretty much already had Reggie Evans on the roster before they even picked up Reggie Evans. Quincy Acy is undersized, has a beard, and generally seems pretty angry at the world. All that he's missing is the headband and complete and total lack of an offensive game (Acy's shown at least a moderately acceptable jumpshot and is fairly athletic in the paint).
Meanwhile, Jason Terry would have been an absolutely fantastic piece for this team... ten years ago. Now that he's old and broken, he can mainly serve as a mentor to our young guys. Or I should say, that will be his role if/when he ever actually joins the team.
But at the very least we lost Marcus Thornton and Geoff Petrie's fantastically oversized contract for him. Farewell Bayou Bomber, I'll miss your ever present pouty face...
Game Recap-ramento
The Kings are officially 1-0 in the Post-MT Era! It's time to throw a party! I want to say that that was a good game of basketball but anyone with eyes can tell you that it wasn't. That said, it was still relatively fun to watch.
