In retrospect, perhaps it would have been better to axe Musselman 10 games ago, and ORDER Brooks to "tank" by shelving the starters and experimenting with only rookies the rest of the year.

Geoff and the Maloofs should have done that.

I happen to not think much of Muss, but it would really be a stretch to expect HIM to intentionally tank at this stage of things. So the decision should have been taken out of his hands.

Maybe he is doing what his boss, Geoff, and the Maloofs want...

And check out those Knicks...they seem to have not gotten the tank memo either, as they stay close to Toronto at the end with Francis and Curry logging huge minutes.

If tanking is such a simple proposition, why aren't these other teams not benching their starters (like Muss did with 4 of ours in crunch time today)?

OK, per the standings it appears that we finish the day alone in the 10th lottery spot, and had we lost we would have been tied for 6th through 9th with Minny, Portland, and NY Knicks (who are now 6 - 8).

We tied all 3 season series with these bottom dwelling competitors, but I'm not sure how tie breaks would work, or if they just flip a coin betwen those tied with the same records for the final lottery positions.

Charlotte is #9 for now, only 1/2 game in "front" of us.

Charlotte will pass us; they're the only team currently out of the playoffs that's actually trying not to get better draft position. Of course, on the other hand, they're also the only team currently out of the playoffs that's actually improved each of the past three seasons, so they're actually moving forward towards a goal... which is more than can be said for us, unfortunately.

Right, that's because they already traded away their draft pick to Chicago.

They can't bench their starters because they already took them out for the season. Ray Allen, Zach Randolph, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Mike Miller, Damon Stoudamire, Bobby Simmons, Michael Redd, Kevin Garnett, David Lee, Stephon Marbury, Earl Watson, and about 20 other guys: all out for the season for lottery teams. And a lot of those guys are out for things like bruises, or treatment of medical conditions which their own doctors said could wait. Non-lottery teams? The Spurs are missing Mel Ely, the Suns are missing nobody, the Heat are missing Gary Payton, Dallas is missing DJ Mbenga. Do the math.

Tied teams' lottery chances are all added together and divided equally among them. Tied teams' draft positions are resolved by coin flips, right after the season ends. Division and conference records, etc., are not taken into account.
