[Game] Kings @ Clippers - 12/21/12

Look at it this way: Our "starters" change game to game anyway. I think Smart found a combination that worked and, for once, didn't kill it. The guys on the court have done a good job and shown effort. (And Walton says pretty much the same thing as I'm typing it.)

Grant just said Smart will address Cousins not coming out in the second half during the post-game. I'll try and summarize it for those of you who don't get the feed.

Yea, this line up has been ok minus the rebounding problem. The turnovers are not as terrible as the first half which is the main reason we were behind so much. I am just not a fan of playing the hot hand lineups instead of trying to develop your best lineup (which should be the starting lineup).

I am a HUGE fan of DMC. I really despise Smart's coaching. DMC has to learn when to keep his mouth shut and to put the TEAM first. Tonight DMC seems to be out of line. In the end I would still get rid of Smart and keep DMC.

But when two of your foundation starters aren't in the game, you're not developing your best potential lineup anyway.

I agree with you. The Clippers haven't even broken a sweat the entire 2nd half.

ya the Clippers knew this Kings team had no chance, especially when they saw DeMarcus gone. you could tell they would just turn the pressure back on for a minute if the lead got under 10 and push the lead back up so they could relax again

Well yes ... but if you don't think the Clippers were screwing around a little bit you've got blinders on.

Obviously. What we saw was effort from all 5 guys on the floor, something this team doesn't get a lot of. Even if they weren't effective, it's still nice to see that effort and have it show up on the score

Wtf are these clowns talking about. The Kings never had a chance. The effort was embarrassing. Sure we didn't get blown out but we were a joke on both sides of the floor.
I agree with Walton. The team did show effort. They're just not very good, especially against a team like the Clippers. It could have been like the last game against LAC...
A less-talented, well-coached team, playing hard, can beat a more talented team on a given night.

Well, two out of three...?

I used to record all the games so I could watch them again. I quit doing it some years ago when it got to be too painful to relive a lot of the games. I did record tonight's game and am going to go back and look at the differences between the play in the first and second half. I also want to do some iso looks at how Jimmer played. He seemed to have a pretty decent game...

Of course, I could just wait for Brickie's analysis since I know he'll be addressing the same thing.

Jimmer played good defense in this game.

I agree. He is never going to be a first team all-NBA defender, but his man-to-man defense has improved over last season and he has developed a nice floater. He has to get it off just a tad earlier or wait a tad later for contact, but he will adjust to that. He is already much better than last season.

Jimmer has continued to improve all season with limited minutes. His defense is borderline solid now on most situations (tough when he's gaurding big 2's and 3's). He just seems to get better shots for the team when he has the ball, either for himself or drawing attention and passing it off. Isaiah just seems like a chicken with his head cut off half the time, but comes up with good plays as well, it just doesn't seem as natural.

But you have to hire a competent, experienced coach. JVG, Sloan, and who ever else would work fine but the Maloofs can't afford a coach. How many games have all of us b^iched about Smart over and over and over. DMC is what he is at this moiment and nobody should be surprised about whatever happened. Trading Cuz would be just fine if we aren't going to get a coach.

Can someone give us a report on Smart's post game? Much thanks

I'm still watching. Walton is talking about how good the team looked AS A TEAM in the second half. I have to agree. They're talking about Fredette now and how he's really coming along.

Jimmer's production isn't a fluke. He's showing several polished offensive moves and playing like a real professional. Even his defense is starting to become passable and even looks great at times

I want one thing to change: putting the ball on the floor immediately after receiving a pass. It would be nice if a guy could look to pass first. And then it would be nice if the players without the ball would cut to the basket. Right now, it's all about the dribble..

and ur saying im the one with questionable basketball analysis?

Coach Smart wouldn't say much about the DMC situation ... 'we have standards for our players and if they don't meet them we'll move on' ... wouldn't say whether or not he'll play in the next game

You know Glen when people have called out to fire the coach from Adelman to Westfall I always said, "sure, but for who?" But Smart is so chaotic, and the players are so under-performing I will take any warm body. I am just fine with letting English or Bobby finish the season. If we could bring in an upgrade sooner fine.

Post game interview segment:

Smart:

Our guys did a good job out there trying to compete and play...

What happened with Cousins?

Just something that happened. Just... kind of an adjustment with the team. I'm gonna try and focus on the next game and not focus on what happened here.

When asked if DMC would play the next game, Smart said "I'm gonna focus on the night ... and then I'll move forward to the next day."

Jim Gray asked him about the first quarter incident and Smart said, "I don't think we need to get caught up too much on what happens on the court. Players get heated and say things. I say things as well. The situation involves conduct at the moment and we're trying to set a standard for all of our players and all of our guys who are here. And when guys don't fall in line with that we've got to move on and move forward."

Gray said, "Did that have something to do with it?"

Smart said, "No, not that." But he was sorta of nodding yes while he was saying no.

Questions then went to how the guys in the second half showed heart and effort...
