From his profile:

Strengths: Has decent hands, which allow him to catch an entry pass, gather himself and shoot a hook shot. Will rebound and block shots. Plays within his capabilities.

Full Name: Luke Dean Schenscher Position: Center Height/Weight: 7-1 / 255 Birthdate: December 31, 1982 (Hope Forest, South Australia) High School: Australian Institute of Sport (Canberra, Australia), then Lake Ginninderra College (Canberra, Australia) College: Georgia Tech Country: Australia

He's soft, extremely lean, and will more than likely not make it. He's got size which always brings with it "potential" so that's why we picked him up, but if you are expecting this guy to do anything you may be asking too much.

I'hhh'diot.

I remember watching him in college. He's pretty crazy. I think he can make the team, but I dunno. We'll see.

Hmm..well, statistically doesn't look impressive, but barely remember watching him play, so have no real opinion. Have no interest in another soft player if indeed he is soft, and if we keep a softie instead of a shotblocker I am going to write my rep over at Kings headquarters and demand that they slap Geoff silly. Likely just a Lonnie Jones replacement, but hey, at least the kid's big, and at least that's maybe an acknowledgement of our shortcomings (pun intended) in the middle.

Yo Slim! We just picked up one of your Tech boys -- what's the scoop?

OMG.

Big white stiff. I think I will puke now. The media here in South Australia will go crazy with this. When he got picked up by Denver, the media ran with it making him sound like the second coming of Jesus Christ.

I would be VERY surprised if he made the team.

Schenscher is a good backup offensive center; he's got a solid post game, including a reliable jump hook. On defense, he's not a very good rebounder for his size (so he'll fit right in...), but he's a capable help defender, and a good weak side shot blocker. He's a little light in the ***, though...

As a backup, I'd rather have him than Sampson, but I don't know how much of a compliment that is...

ESPN scouting report from after junior year in college:

Scouting Report: A space-eater ... Better coordinated, more mobile and more skilled than one would expect out of a player of his size ... Lacks lateral speed, but moves north south just fine ... Has good touch around the goal and is starting to develop a game with his back to the basket ... A smart offensive player who competes to his strengths, not his weaknesses ... Must become more comfortable putting the ball on the floor ... A solid rebounder, he gets boards off of his position and reach, though not his tracking ability ... Has trouble bringing in caroms that do not fall within his immediate vicinity ... Excellent shot-blocker ... Has cut down on fouls so he can stay in the game for longer periods of time ... Is an excellent long-term prospect whose best basketball years will likely come after he graduates college.

And his from a preseason scouting report same year:

C = #12 Luke Schenscher (7-1, Sr.) = Schenscher was without question one of the most improved players in the nation last year. Starting off at Tech, Schenscher was as thin as a rail. Since then, the big Aussie has gained a lot of muscle and has developed into a fine shot blocker and scorer. He is an intelligent player and a fine passer for a big. He shot 57% from the floor last year.

I don't know anything about the guy except what I've read since hearing the news, so I have no real opinion of him. But I do like the idea. Like was said in another thread, It looks (or I am reading into things too much) like the Kings are really looking for a diamond in the rough ala Big Ben. This guy or any of the others don't even have to be that dominant (although I wouldn't mind at all), but I'm convinced that this team needs that sort of a player or attitude in a position that will get minutes. Seems unlikely now with the current roster, but don't tell me that its not going to happen because I'm choosing to live in my own little utopia where one of these big guys will make the team and have an impact (postitive impact for those smart alecs out there).

I liked the way he played last season. He was with a very talented and guard-oriented team at Georgia Tech. In another situation, he could've put up better numbers and gotten a little more exposure.

He's got the frame to play in the NBA, he just needs to get stronger so he can live up to that height and wingspan. He's definitely soft physically, but I wouldn't say he's mentally soft just yet. If he got stronger, I think you'd see him play a very different game. He's talented, the question is with his body. Is he going to be one of those guys who hits the pros, gets into his mid-20s and just blossoms and can finally play like a man? Or is he going to be one of those big men (like Sampson) who will always be lanky, weak and at best fill out the end of the bench cheering section?

Schenscher is already > Sampson.

I hope one of these guys are good enough to hang on, even in the developmental league, and help out in the middle. Doesn't seem like we are going to get a big name veteran, so maybe one of these guys will suffice as a backup BIG man.

Schenscher is a big body and has decent skills, but I don't see him as any better than camp fodder.

If I recall correctly, he graded out as the worst athlete in the pre-draft combine. He had a Vlade like vertical in the 24-26 inch range, though he blocked a decent number of shots in college due to his size and coordination.

Of more concern, he benched 185 lbs only one or two times. For a center, especially one that isn't of the incredibly skinny athlete variety, that is unexcusable.

Talent wise, sure Schenscher > Sampson. But in terms of chances to make the Kings roster? Sampson >> Schenscher.

I saw him play quite a bit the last two seasons. I think he could make it in the NBA in some sort of role. He is not athletic at all. He is a fairly capable all around player but his lack of athleticism is kind of a big issue for the NBA I would think. He won't shock or disappoint you, could be solid.

Why? What makes Sampson a better prospect?

Much better athlete + has proven he can put up numbers at the NBA level. Would seem to clearly have the edge over an undrafted lug who was waived before even hitting camp. Begin to see the attraction for Geoff -- I mean, bad athlete, but can pass. But still has everything to prove. Might well be a better prospect for our system than an Anwar Ferguson though.

I might be a little more concerned if he'd been cut from a team with a little less depth at center than Denver; they're pretty well set, I think...
