[Game] Kings @ Cavs, 10/30/10 4PM

We only won because Antawn Jamison is horrible at defense. We won't have that luxury every night, so they've got to work on the offense.
 
Gameball goes to Omri though he missed those free throws. Regardless of the results, It was still good experience for him to take those pressure free throws.
 
Sloppy win, but a win nonetheless! A lot of things that the guys can take away from this game when they watch the tape.
 
Phew...shows that it's a young team, missing chances to put the game away, but they managed to pull it out. Casspi should have hit those FTs, but Cousins did good to at least get one of 'em at the end...all in all, 2-1 after three road games isn't too bad.

Not to mention it was our second win against EC teams, and I think we only won 1 ( maybe 2 ) games against that conference all season.


We are 2-1 to start the year without playing a single home game. Reke missed one game, Westphal still has no idea who is going to play and when. There is a ton of room for improvement, but we are 2-1. Not bad eh.
 
Wow, it's a shame we were this close to starting 3-0.

Going off topic here, but anyone find it funny that in training camp Westphal was really high on Pooh, and also said Donte would most likely be our starter? Well now Pooh isn't seeing the floor at all and Donte... I frankly don't care what lineup we use as long as we win. Almost all our guys are young and playing time won't hurt em, unlike if we rode Udoka and Noc to a win (not that that ever happened)
 
We just gotta start playing the 1st like we play the 3rd.

Slow start and shakey finish to a game I'll chalk up to youth.

I dont know how Cousins ended up with 10 boards, but dude got his first NBA double double tonight!

Reke...Reke, Reke, Reke. I'm on the bandwagon but I aint drinkin the cool aid. The dude has borderline allstar skills, but plays like he's already top 5 in the league. Our rookie is humble and a hard worker, he just needs a lot of coaching. Too much iso, too much wannabe heroism. We've seen him take over, but he isnt able to do that consistantly, and should adjust his play as such. 21/7/6 is a good line, but he played an ugly game and had horrible efficiency.

Omri is a stud, just needs to work on FTs. He had a lot of good deflections that didnt appear in the statsheet, broke up a lot of gimme scramble plays for the Cavs.

I think we could have done good with some more JT minutes, he couldnt make anything himself, but he cleaned up a lot of Reke misses on the offensive glass. But Landry was on fire for awhile and Jackson plays tough D so I cant really complain about the PF rotation.

Would like to see more Greene next game. I dont think he's in the doghouse, Westphal was just riding the hot hand (Omri played the most minutes out of all our players tonight).

Damn. I no longer have finger nails. It got a little scary at the end but the boys prevailed. Nice game by Omri despite the late free-throw bricks he put up. The guy hustled his a55 off and he reminded me off Peja hitting his bombs. Who had that monster block? Dalembert or Cousins? That was epic. Reke's shot is not falling in for him. He'll come around. No doubt!! Nice win. We should be 3-0. I'll take 2-1 on the road any day. Go Kings!!!
 
I know Westphal thinks continually giving Reke the ball will make him learn how to handle those situations, but he's not learning and it is not fair to the team to throw away games in order to try to Kobefy Reke. There are other ways to involve him in the final play. Try those and see if he learns that way. I don't want to watch this same old crap at the end of every game. Not even the stars do the 1 on 5 crap. Kobe gets set up, as does Wade.

I think the coaches need to find that fine line of balance between giving Tyreke a chance to learn and grow to be a superstar and realising that he has only had 1 year in the league, and frankly isn't at the level of Lebron and Kobe and Wade. You have to give him enough chances to try and do something but not to the point that your team suffers as a result. On his end, Tyreke needs to realise that going one on five isn't a wise idea. It's good that he has confidence in his jumpshot (although I don't ... he's still falling back on his shots) but he should know that in clutch situations with the team depending on him he has got to play smarter. Like all great players, Tyreke will have his ups and downs as he progresses up the learning curve, but hey, nobody is perfect.

Well, we're a young team and lets just be glad that we're off to a good start and have shown that we can play decent defence if we want to. I'm really really hoping that this game will light a spark in Omri's game. If we have him and Garcia as two scrappy hustlers who can hit 3s it'll be pretty hard for teams to stop us.

I'm talking now, not ceiling. Borderline allstar skills for a second year player = awesome! Dont mistake my lack of homerism for lack of faith. I still expect Reke to be killing it for us in a couple seasons, I just think expectations are a bit too high at the moment. Also, I'm lumping in play style with physical skills when I say "borderline", all the iso and head down lane charges were killing us, but on the otherhand he had a dominating run in the 3rd.

He's a young player, not Kobe, not even Roy yet (And honestly, second year Kobe didnt hold a candle to first year Reke). As of right now, borderline. Two years from now, who knows? He has 26/7/7 potential (at least), doesnt mean we're gonna see that by this season's allstar break.

Why does this team always play so bad in the first half but turns it on in the 3rd and most of the 4th quarter? It's a great way to win and also make me lose my voice from yelling at the TV.
 
If we could learn how to play even a little defense in the first half of games we'll be alright. Liked what I've seen from Dally in limited minutes.

When I said borderline allstar skills I meant it as a compliment, I think Bricklayer took it as a jab. I shoulda put in a "proud" emoticon into that post :p

Recently I heard Coach Paul says that Carl Landry often makes it easier for other Kings to get rebounds often at the expense of his own boards. He said Carl is excellent at boxing out his man (often other teams top rebounder) allowing someone else on the Kings to swoop in for the rebound. Coach seemed very happy with Landry because he said his superior skills far outweigh whatever limitations he may have.

I think it's more about simply doing the right thing - boxing out your man. I mean you learn that fundamental in jr high school basketball. Carl simply does it the way it's suppose to be done and apparently better than anyone else on the Kings. Being that he's a bit smaller than most PFs in NBA, maybe for him it's also survival instinct.

Wow, I just realized a couple years go we would be talking about what a solid rebounder for his size our PF Kenny Thomas was.... YIKES!!

You could see the value of Dalembert from this game. Cleveland was hitting EVERYTHING in the first half. Dalembert started the second half and keyed the comeback with his defensive presence.
 
Tonight's game was almost a carbon copy of The New Jersey game. Play good in the 1st, fall behind by 16-18 points in the 2nd, fight back in the 3rd, take the lead in the 4th, squander the lead at the end of the 4th. Thankfully the final outcome was different tonight. It was an ugly win though. Those last 5 minutes were just brutal.
