Melvin Ely...? I was happier when i thought Jermareo Davidson would be in our camp
Yeah, what the heck happened to Jermareo? I was looking forward to seeing another young big in camp...NOT Melvin Ely for pete's sake. WTF?!? PG Lanny Smith?? Who tha?? We already have PLENTY of 6'3 PG's in Beno and Sergio. Oh well, I'm looking forward to this season...but NEXT season(or offseason, I should say)should be pretty nice. Hopefully our training camp roster NEXT season includes one Manu and one Cambyman!

edit: and don't discount the fact that we have one hard nosed Argentinian already on our roster as well that would LOVE to play with his countryman and teammate in Mr. Ginobili, and I'm sure Geoff Petrie is well aware of this, too.

I'm actually glad Melvin Ely is on the training camp roster. I was afraid the Kings would only have 2 players over 6'9". Could be worse...

Edit: Looks like Dante Greene grew an inch. 6'11" eh. Nice :)

Same here, although it's kind of funny for us to unload Justin Williams, only to hire essentially the same player, but a decade or so older. If Ely were young, I'd be excited about it.

You know, it's like when you round corners and make your resume prettier. As long as the truth is close enough...
Well, at Donte's age, it would not be a total surprise if he did gain some height over the last year.

At the rate he's going in our media guides, he'll be 7'3" by March Our search for a paint defender may take care of itself. ;)

Yeah, I'm surprised why we even considered Ely. He's getting to be 30, but more importantly, he's terrible--he's just so unrefined on both ends of the court; I think it says something when he couldn't even cut it with the Hornets, who were just so desperate for frontcourt depth last year. Jermareo Davidson would be a better option just for the youth, even if he may not be as good.

Lanny Smith's optimal scenario is Quincy Douby. Take that as you like--he's another shoot-first small guard.

Ely is actually going to be 32 apparently -- must have entered the league old, although I do not recall why.

No he turned 24 his senior year in college then came straight to the NBA. He probably redshirted a year, or played five years of high school, or started school late. Its not that uncommmon for basketball players.

Oh! Right. I was mentally tangling him up with Maceo Baston.

Yeah, he was 19 and ineligible when he started his 5 years at Fresno State, so he didn't even play college ball until he was 20, and was 24 by the time he entered the draft.

/past mental issues regarding Israeli basketball.

That was part of why I was equating him with Justin Williams. Both got a start in the NBA, then left to play in Europe and the Middle East. (In addition to some similarities of game, of course.)

I don't see Mason making it, more of a need at back up C-PF so I could see Ely being the 13th guy.

We already have an overload, kinda worries me when you got Noc, Greene, Garcia, Martin and Caspi so I can't help but feel there won't be barely any minutes behind Martin so that leaves 3 guys competing for minutes behind Noc although Greene can play a little PF.

Then at PG I really wish we could get rid of Beno, I have a feeling if he doesn't start he'll be a bit sour, rather have Tyreke starting with all back up minutes going to Sergio.

At some point we'll need to make some trades to upen thing up for guys who have an acual future with us.
