Don't Make Me Use The Bat
The fifth in our monthlong prediction poll series: Will Boogie make the All Star team this year?

Dwight Howard will be the starter whether he plays good or not. so hopefully DMC makes it as a reserve.

and wow i just realized the Western all-star starters are probably gonna be 4 LA players

Durant
Gasol/Griffen
Howard

I don't see it happening. I think the Kings will be a borderline 30 win team or in that area so he won't get the consideration even if he puts up 18-20 points and 10-13 rebounds.

yes, he will be the best center in the league. However, thanks to global laker favoritism he will be a reserve.

I think he can make it as a reserve. There's no doubt that Howard will win the popular vote, but Cousins has a good chance to get picked as a reserve. He'll obviously get competition from Bogut, but only if Bogut remains healthy. Picking Jordan or McGee over Cousins would be a huge misjustice. Neither of them has his skill level. Lopez shouldn't even be in consideration.

I don't really think DMC has a real shot at the All-Star team this year, based on his less-than-stellar reputation. Will he deserve a reserve slot? He'll most likely be in strong contention numbers-wise, maybe even the #1 option. But I think he gets snubbed this year, and after the pundits dwell on his numbers, gets a nod for the 2014 All-Star game.

Marc Gasol and Lamarcus Aldridge made it last year. Between them, Bogut, Jefferson, and maybe Duncan, Cousin should be among the top 2 of those guys. (Howard/Griffin/Love are a given to repeat as bigs)

It'll be close in terms of getting chosen, but numbers-wise, Cousins should be the 2nd best center in the west.

It was that way last year too, with Bynum at center instead of Howard.

It will be interesting to see Gortat's numbers without Nash this year.

I say All Star and here is why: DMC has made marked improvement each season through out the season, but has yet to have real useful off season. Rookies at best learn the new game and trhe new team, but our team was in such chaos DMC was lucky to figure out the NBA game his first off season. Last year with no real off season and again team chaos and a coach who did nothing to help him it seemed to me all DMC learned was that he was on his own out there, but by the end of the season there was not only improved team chemistry but with IT handling the ball the two of them developed the foundation for a two man game and DMC'c numbers bore that out. Bottom line is that Cousins can play against any big in the NBA and hold his own. Numbers favor Howard regardless of how he plays after back surgery, bu who else is there in the West M. Gassol? Al Jefferson? I'll Demarcus every time. I see big numbers for him again this year and more wins.

To be an All Star you generally have to come out of the gates well. It's a first half of the season award. The big question is does Cuz come in in great shape, improved and on a mission. If yes, then I think it's more likely than not he's an All Star this year. However, if he comes out slow, and we aren't winning, no matter how much he picks it up, unless it's a few 30/20 games and we start winning, I doubt he makes it. He'll need to garner attention early.

Coming in in shape and getting off to a good start is as big a factor as us winning, imo. Coming out 5-12 for example will hurt his chances even if he's tearing it up.

Pure wisdom in this post.

This is about the only way (barring coach's selections or injury replacement) that DMC is likely to make the All-Star team this year, barring MONSTER stats that simply can't be overlooked.

The fact that DMC plays for the Kings makes him about a foot shorter than everyone else in the typical fan's eyes.

I'm saying reserve. As others have noted, he has improved every offseason, the team is more stable, the third year usually sees the biggest jump in production for centres coming into the league this young and he has the tendency to show up with really huge games occasionally, which should garner him more attention. He really only has to outperform Marc Gasol (who has to split frontcourt stats with Zach Randolph all season, unlike last) and Andrew Bogut (who has never been an all star, even in his best season and comes off a major injury). Given these factors, bad rep or no, he really needs to be in.
