This is a reference to A's GM Billy Beane's strategy of trading young guys for tons of prospects... although that's not mainly what moneyball is about.. it's more about high on base percentages and station to station baseball.

yeah those were some ridiculous shots. For a minute after he hit the last shot I wondered why he didn't get mobbed by the bench. Then I remember, the Sonic's have lost 14 in a row....why rub it in? So in hindsight, it was very sportmanslike to not jump on Kevin like an idiot at the end of that.
As for All-star, he's not getting in this year either way. I'd like him to, but it won't happen. And it has nothing to do with Roy or Gay. You have to be kidding me if you think either of those players is better than Kevin Martin.

You just reminded me of something VF. Didn't they have a few years ago some sponsored page (by sprite maybe?) on NBA.com that would tally together players on their "clutchness" of sorts every night. What happened to that....

That's the one. Yeah thanks. I liked it too, was a nice compilation of clutch plays each night. Best was that it was clutch plays not shots, and would tell you about someone's clutch rebound, block, FTs, or steal.

As I understand the idea as it would be applied to basketball, there are lots of things that will lead to a "win," such as scoring, rebounding, etc. But if you look at salaries, "scorers" earn more than "rebounders" even if they contribute the same to the chance of winning. So you trade "scorers" in return for "rebounders" and you save lots of money for the same amount of wins.
One way to do this is to look at salaries versus a measure such as ESPN's Hollinger Player Efficiency Ratings. Of course, the problem there is that Martin is the only King in the top twenty, but he is not one of the more expensive Kings player. Since there are salary restrictions for trades, we couldn't trade him for a lot. I guess in that case the idea would be to sign him to a big contract, then trade him.
