If we give him 18.5 which is the max extension supposedly, that more than makes up for not getting 14 this year no? That's 16 over 4 years before factoring in the raises. And it's still a bargain. Plus it curries favor with his agent and all that. Who also reps Keegan?

He might get 20mpg here behind Lavine, Carter, Derozan, and Schroeder that’s assuming we trade monk for a wing. Why would he resign here if it’s been clear to him he’s not valued he’s gonna test free agency and see if he could get the same offer or more from a team that would play him

He didn't sign the deal until 2-9-24, don't see how you can extend before 2-9-26.

I'm guessing you are right and Keith didn't realize he was coming off a 2-way, but is it possible that for the same reason the 2-way counts towards Bird rights it grandfathers into the original signing date?
I mean probably, certainly not? But maybe there are other bylaws around 2-ways?
Yeah, maybe that's the case. Seems odd, but I don't think I care enough to really parse the language in the CBA to decide whether the original two-way actually counts as part of the NBA deal signed in Feb.

I like Keon as a player but giving these types of 3 and D players anything over 10-12m per is a suicidal move unless they have offensive talent or are also absurdly strong where they can defend three or 4 positions (Dort), there is so many 3 and D players nowadays the best move is to get them on rookie deals use them and find the next one (e.g Jake Laravia type deal or draft one/pick up undrafted/2nd round).
Ellis is marginally better than Hayword Highsmith who is making like 5mil per.

I agree with the contract deal but Highsmith had like a 0.1 VORP compared to Keon's 1.9. That's a pretty substantial difference in impact.
Keon's offensive efficiency is elite amongst 3&D players. I'd like to see what it could be with an uptick in usage. He really needs to go into this season with the mindset that he needs to start ripping threes like the 2nd best shooter on the team should be doing.

People are really really really underestimating how good Keon has been the last few years. Let's hope the 18mil/season is good enough to sign the extension and not test ufa.
Which makes this offseason so perplexing. If you land Kuminga, fine, I can understand the gamble on the team control aspect of Keon. If you dont, we simply just got worse and now no longer have team control on one of our best players.

The criticisms that Kings fans leveled at Monte over the years were that he's not enough of a dealmaker, can't pull off the big swing, doesn't get enough value back in trades, doesn't value size.
Well, Scott Perry just had to trade Jonas Valanciunas to make room so he could sign... Dennis Schroder, and all because he apparently couldn't extract enough value out of Malik Monk in a supposed sign-and-trade with Detroit. Over-the-hill names like Russell Westbrook don't exactly inspire much confidence, either. It's not yet looking to me like Perry is the schmoozer and dealmaker he's been hailed as.
Now, he's got plenty of off-season in front of him to get this right, but the pressure's on him to get this right. Because at the moment, all I've seen is a directionless talent bleed that indicates nothing except that he wants to put his "stamp" on this team and dump useful players who aren't his guys. Gambling with team control of Keon Ellis had better be worth it when it's all said and done.
I feel like the fact we just gave a full MLE to one of Keon and Keegan's agent's clients is a good sign but I get why we are all doom and gloom.
A lot of athletes maintain offseason residences in Florida which I assume allows them to save taxes on passive income.
