Justin Williams - with summer league team!

CASPER, Wyo. -- Although former University of Wyoming standout Justin Williams wasn't picked in Wednesday's NBA draft, his agent says he will get a chance to play professional ball with the Sacramento Kings.

Darren White, Williams' agent, told the Casper Star-Tribune on Thursday that Williams will play in the NBA's Toshiba Vegas Summer League with the Kings.

Kings coach Eric Musselman talked with White and Williams near the end of Wednesday's draft. Musselman said that Williams' defense could be valuable to the Sacramento team.

"We talked with coach Musselman, and he spoke very highly of (Williams)," White said.

Teams commonly send rookies to the Summer League to gain experience and prove they deserve a place on the team. Williams is scheduled to play his first Summer League game July 6 with the Kings in Las Vegas.

But yes -- now we are talking. Of all the non-drafted guys, he was the one who really had the most of what we needed. Makes summer league far more intriguing too -- hope he does well enough in summer league to at least get the camp invite.
 
i read this on him. "There are many scrappy power forwars who went undrafted and are far less natually talented than him makeing a solid living in the NBA right now."

HMM lets see a defensive big man that has great blocking ability and insticts. What was it we needed again?

I'm quite happy to see we are looking at this guy, and think he has a damn good chance to make it.
 
this guy made our team as soon as he signed. He is better than Sampson and Daniels. Plus he fits a need shot blocking rebounding and defense.
 
Interesting... I've just read his profile, and think he may be a poor man's Ben Wallace with thinner body. Extremely one-dimensional player. INTERIOR DEFENSE.

According to report, his offense is not good. He cannot shoot and doesn't have skills such as post-up move or hook-shots. He just dunk and lay in within trasition or around the rim. Maybe that makes him undrafted.

Totally one-dimensional. However, OMG, 11rpg and 5.4bpg? One-dimensional but HUGE.

I'm not sure whether he will make the roster or not. He may be a Kings as a atheletic and defensive role player. Wait a minute. I think we have someone who named Jamal Sampson. So... ?

Anyway, it's very interesting. The 'Draft day' was over, but Petrie don't stop drafting yet. :D
 
mmmm, seems as if GP might have a plan after all. A defensive big man and a potential consistent scorer. I wonder why some of you still doubt after all these years.
 
Now we are talking, a guy that averages 5.4 blocks makes me smile, especially when we have the chance of getting him on our team.
 
Just read J-Will's (!) profile, sounds great. Weaknesses are obviously offense and putting some weight on his upper body, but time will take care of the latter, at least. He's not gonna be out there for his offense, but obviously can work on that if he wants. :)

Well let's see, given that Justin was given to us as an asboslute gift by the teams with the 40 draft picks after ours who could have taken him, that's a pretty shaky plan.

Obvious move. But at least we made it.

He had two games w/ double digit blocks. He does seem a bit turnover prone, and his FT% is mediocre, but both can be corrected w/ coaching.

Well, maybe not the FT stuff, but that really is a minor thing for a defense/rebounding specialist. Look at Big Ben.

Turnovers might mean bad hands unfortunately. But again, not a disastrous problem for a guy who is not a huge cog in the offense (although note Dampier's stone hands effectively finishing the Mavs in the Finals).

maybe, maybe not, he was predicted to go 2nd round or not at all. Kinda happened fast. When GP saw that a potential shooter was the best pick, good chance he knew JW might still be around today to fill that need.
 
Good smart move by GP. I like the fact that he's compared to Keon Clark.
 
I like this. He sucks on offence but he brings what we need and thats an athletic rebounder, great shot-blocker and solid defender. At 6'9/6'10, I can't see him as a back up C but I do like what he brings to the table.

Now, I wonder if he actually makes the cut.

You are really stretching now. Nobody knew who was going to be left after this draft. We just got lucky. But at least we made the call.
 
This guy was my favorite player in college. Yes, there actually is a Wyoming Cowboys basketball fan in this world. I'm glad we got him. I don't see why he can't make the team and replace Sampson as a developing 12th man type. I watched as many games of him as I could. He has no offense, but he does have decent enough hands to catch a pass under the hoop and finish it. I think a Keon Clark with a mean streak comparison is accurate. I hope he does well. :)
