JT could be next???

a few rumor mills saying that JT is likely the next to be traded and that we are looking to move him. I don't get that. If that happens you have a Williams, Cousins frontcourt with only Gray and Ndaiye? that is a horrible idea. Landry will not be available until Feb but I would still say that trading JT would be a mistake unless you are getting a decent big back. but if you are trading contract for contract on decent bigs. then why make the trade?

You trade JT cause he has a long contract for someone that has a shorter one. It's pretty simple I think. A young big with more potential. Makes you worse short term with a long term goal.

They are moving on from maloof era players as quickly as possible. JT MT IT, don't go buying houses.

JT for Lin.

Frees up Houston to trade Asik.

Hmm ... that would bring a lot of bandwagon fans where I am to the Kings. Not sure if I'll be happy with that or not ... There's something special about being one of the very rare Kings fans where I am. And personally I've always thought Lin was overrated.

I could get behind this only because Lin will be an ender next year (even with the monster 14+ mil he's owed that year). The last year is worth a ton, but because it's an ender and we aren't signing anyone from LeBron and co., we actually end up with an exodus of money the following year when Gay and Lin come off the books.

I like the idea, he'd be fun to watch with this team.

You can sit back and watch the Jimmer and Lin bandwagon fans bicker at each other for starting minutes!

Lin has been playing pretty well in Houston this year in his role as sometimes starter sometimes sixth-man. Easily the best, most consistent basketball of his career. Unfortunately, he plays exactly like Isaiah Thomas. 90% of the time, he is trying to get to the rim on dribble penetration to draw the foul or finish strong. That's not a bad thing, but it brings up all the same issues I have with starting Thomas with Cousins; their games just don't naturally mesh.

The only guy in Houston that I want to get is Asik. Houston needs a starting caliber PF who rebounds well and can knock down a mid-range jumper at the bare minimum. Either Landry or JT could fit the role for them. Houston doesn't really need anything else as they have decent bench depth at every other position. I'm not convinced that we have what they are looking for. I think that the Asik/Milsap trade makes too much sense for both teams for anything else to happen.

Looks like the Kings may be taking the Mark Cuban approach. Keep a couple of attractive pieces, and everyone else comes off the books at the same time. Makes you the big player in the freeagent market when perhaps most of the teams have already shot their wad the year before. And if all goes as planned, you can use Cousins, McLemore, an extended Gay for less money, if he works out, and perhaps another top draft pick as attractive bait for perspective freeagents.

In any event, I told you that the Kings were going to blow up this team, and they're well on their way. Were not winning, but its sure interesting to watch.

The only reason why we have decent rebounding at the SF position is because our PF has been doing a decent job of boxing his man out.

Talking about Gay throughout his career has been a good rebounder at SF. JT is what he is, a role player. If the team wants to win we need to get better, and if it means losing JT via trade then so be it.

I feel the same way about being a Cincinnati Bengal fan living in Sacramento. Especially when the Bengals are good! I am a rare breed in this area and I can finally boast :)

JT is also an overpaid roleplayer with a long contract. I think the team has to move him for a shorter contract, even if they take a hit in talent in the meantime.

I don't think Houston would do JT for Lin, but I'm a Ray Mac guy so I'd like to see what he can do. I don' think JT needs to go but he is one of the pieces left of possible positive value that we might feel are expendable to get some space for this summer

As I posted in another thread, my Prediction: Marcus Thornton and Jason Thompson for Charlotte's Bismack Biyombo and Ben Gordon (ender).

Why Kings do it? They shed MT and JT massive salary and get a young shot blocker with upside in Biyombo to put next to Cousins and Gay. Ben Gordon is an ending contract and will be bought out, if he can't be dealt at the trade deadline.

Why Charlotte does it? JT would instantly become their starting PF and MT gives them an added scorer and legit 15-20 ppg scorer. This gives Charlotte's their best chance of finally making it into the playoffs, with Michael Jordan as owner.

I am not that excited about potentially moving JT because every team needs a good bigman roleplayer, and JT definitely falls under that category. BUT.... The Kings aren't any good right now, and if we have to trade JT to get another player that could make us better then I am all for it.

This is a deal where we eat a little money this year (about $2.5M), but send out about $41M to get about $20M in return. Nice future savings of almost $24M, clears MT out of the way, and gets us a crazy-athletic defender to throw into the PF rotation (notably a defender who is rebounding better and shooting a higher percentage this year, though his blocks are down). It looks like Gordon is a bit of damaged goods, but the future savings is huge.

I'm not sure Charlotte does it, but I'd be intrigued by this.

Biyombo is a big risk, in my opinion. You are giving up Thompson for a big maybe, and the midrange jumper for shotblocking. The rebounding evens out.

The higher rebounding/lower blocks is part of the maturation process for bigs. It's something Deandre Jordan and Javale McGee haven't quite figured out yet. It's less about getting the block on the shot than getting a good challenge to make the shot more difficult, then getting in a position for the rebound. Blocks get on Sportscenter, rebounds don't.

Your right but the thing is "maybe" Bismack could fit in well here but we know JT has reached his ceiling.

Is six rebounds a game a good return for a small forward? I reckon so. But, it should be noted that Gay has also played pretty much his whole career alongside bigs that can set him up to get good rebounding numbers, by screening out the guys on the other team. And the trade option we have remaining that is likeliest to improve us going forward would take away the one guy we've got who can do that.

Is having a good character guy who knows his role and plays within himself, but may have reached his ceiling really the worst thing in the world? Just how much higher do you think Biyombo's ceiling is, anyway?

His Per/36 indicates that he's already at that level, right now. upinsmoke's post inferred that he thought Biyombo had the potential to become significantly better, so I was asking, "How much better do you think he's going to get?"

A nice rim protector in Biyambo at 7ppg, 9.0 rpg, and 2.5 blocks per game would work out better next to DMC and Gay then Thompson's 7ppg, 6-7rpg, 0.8blks/game. and there is definitley room to improve for Biyambo.

I agree that a shot blocker would be a better fit next to Cousins (I'm indifferent to Gay). I'm less than convinced that he's going to get appreciably better.

Doesn't Pho like JT? They've been rumored as interested for a few years now.

Id' float a package based around JT for Dragic. Dragic is a decent defender, a facilitator and while he can run the pick & roll and penetrate at times, he's also comfortable off the ball and can spread the floor.

He wouldn't be at the top of my list but Dragic could be an ok PG for this team given it's current makeup. His game isn't completely based on being a high usage player. He is high usage at times but he's also comfortable playing off Bledsoe and has been comfortable playing off others previously. Not sure if Pho would listen but they have a real lack of NBA caliber bigs. Maybe even offer JT/IT.

We'd then have Dragic starting and Ray backing him up. We'd need another big at that point to replace JT but this roster is clearly a work in process.

Haven't checked how the salaries fit.

Biyombo is probably close to his ceiling right now. He shows no appreciable offensive game, whether passing or finishing. He is a 50% free throw shooter. His points come off put-back dunks and tips. His man would be free to double Cousins when Cousins plays in the low post, but would present troubles on a high-low play with Cousins in the high post. You would need to make sure to have shooters at your three perimeter positions in order to avoid completely clogging the paint.

How did "maybe he could fit in well" infer "Biyombo has the potential to become significantly better"? To answer your last question, I don't knowif he would will get any better than he is now but I think its worth the gamble right now.
