I respectfully disagree here. He is not even close to "solid at pretty much everything." In fact, it's just the opposite. He's subpar at pretty much everything with the exception of being an average defender and and average rebounder. His decision making is terrible, he has a terrible demeanor on the court, and is basketball IQ is not good. I wouldn't mind him getting like 10-15 minutes a night, but he really doesn't add anything to our lineup by starting and getting the minutes he's getting.
I'd have absolutely no problem trading him and going in a different direction. He probably feels the same way too.
This is really frustrating because if he was 'subpar at pretty much everything' he'd be out of the league. Sometimes fans can get down on their own players and simply don't realize what they have. He's not good enough to be a starter, but considering his size and mobility allows him to play both the PF and Center positions, and he is a hustler/rebounder/decent post-defender on a good contract, he's a great option as a 3rd big.
And to prove it, here are a list of the other team's 3rd bigs. You tell me all the players who are vastly superior to JT:
Bobcats - Cody Zeller (Not living up to his College Hype...which I expected to be the case)
Bucks - Khris Middleton (Almost an undersized PF, can't play Center)
Bulls - Taj Gibson (I'll take Gibson over JT but he's making more than JT too)
Cavaliers - Tyler Zeller (7pts, 5reb)
Celtics - Kris Humphries (6.6pts, 5.5 Reb, 12mil dollars!!!!!)
Clippers - Ryan Hollins (4pts, 2 Reb. He's got height...but that's it)
Denver - Darrell Arthur (JT-lite. 6pts, 4 Reb. Too small to play Center)
Grizzlies - Ed Davis (Would probably take him over JT but he can't play Center)
Hawks - Gustavo Ayon (4pts, 4 Reb)
Heat - Chris Andersen (Definitely better Shotblocking, but can't cover Centers)
Jazz - Enes Kanter (He's fallen off the map this year, but I'd probably take him over JT and hope he gets it turned around)
Knicks - Amar'e Stoudemire (He's finished)
Lakers - Jordan Hill (Probably should be starting instead of Shawne Williams but Diantone likes shooters. I'd probably take Hill over JT especially if I could get him cheaper.)
Magic - Andrew Nicholson (Adequate player but can't play Center)
Mavericks - Brandon Wright (Can't rebound and can't play Center)
Nets - Mason Plumlee (Surprisingly having a good year, but still not as good as JT. 6pts, 3.5 Reb)
Nuggets - Kenneth Faried (I love Faried. But he's too small to play Center. If we had a good back-up Center as well though...I might consider it.)
Pacers - Luis Scola (Always killed us. Can't rebound but can score. Can't play Center. So toss-up depending on what you need. Scola is the better player but is 33 so JT is probably the better bet long-term)
Pelicans - Alexis Ajinca (3pts, 4 reb, been a disapointment)
Pistons - Jonas Jerebko (8pts, 5 reb. Not getting time in Detriot but a good 3rd big. Don't consider him an upgrade over JT though)
Raptors - Tyler Hansbrough (JT-lite, and too undersized to play Center)
Rockets - Donatas Montiejunas (Can't even get off the bench they go small and play Casspi instead. 3pts, 2 reb)
76ers - Lavoy Allen (5pts, 6 rebs, and undersized)
Suns - Morris Twins (Sorry don't like stretch 4s as 3rd Big types and they can't play Center)
Spurs - Jeff Ayres/Boris Diaw (JT much better than Ayres and Diaw is soft and can't play Center. He's only motivated under Pop/Parker)
Thunder - Nick Collison (Great 3rd big and what you'd like to see JT become. Collison is now 33 so JT is the better bet going forward)
Timberwolves - Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (Great defender but undersized as PF and has no hope playing Center)
Trailblazers - Meyers Leonard (I'd take Leonard over JT right now)
Warriors - Marresse Speights (7.5pts, 4.5Reb)
Wizards - Nene (Clearly the better player but costs way too much. 13mil/year)
