I got this from STR and thought it would be a good discussion here too. So what are your thoughts and which teams do you think could make good trading partners for us OR do you think he just needs to more time to adjust ect ect.

My opinion is we should trade him for a expiring deal to free up the $ for IT this summer and look to upgrade our front court in the offseason via the draft. (Embiid)

Ah ok, saw some of those quotes tart popping up around the net the last few days, was wondering where they were coming from.

P.S. Embiid is likely a fantasy at this point barring a very luck bounce of a ping pong ball. We aren't going to lose out the rest of the way.

Yeah, he is going to end up a Laker at the rate they are going.

I really liked one remark in the comment section. It said "there are two things Jason needs to worry about". One was "STFU". I don't remember the other. I agree with the comment. Whining in the media about all the change on the club since you've been drafted is very lame.

Oh yeah, I think the other thing the guy said was "play better".

That's it.

1) Play better
2) STFU

Hope he is traded sooner rather than later making remarks like that to the press.

That can only come from a rather anti-JT point of reference.

He said nothing wrong there. We've been the biggest zoo in the league during his long tenure here.

I think that too many people here undervalue JT.

If the FO decided that they wanted to trade him they would have zero problems finding another team willing to make a deal.
He's built as almost the perfect '3rd big' as he can cover both the PF and Center positions. He isn't really great at anything, but he's solid at pretty much everything while being a willing hustler and rebounder. And to top it all off, his contract is in line with what you'd be willing to pay for what he brings to the table.
My guess is that he'd be an upgrade to at least half the teams in the league if he were to come in and play the role of '3rd big', and that's the role we eventually need him to play for us if he remains on the roster. I fervently hope we get our defensive big to pair next to Cousins soon.

I like how the writer said JT was at the Raiders game because the Kings were in Oakland the night before.

lol Oakland is like an hour drive away from Sacramento.

Depending on what time you travel and traffic conditions you will be lucky to get Fairfield in a hour.

i highly doubt he's going to stay with gerbil giving landry a large contract. that would be over 10m in front court backup players. i agree that JT is undervalued here on this board. if he could stay consistent, he could play a nick collison type role here.

Agreed, Kings have been a Zoo. remember when he played some SF???:)

I have always hoped JT would develop into a Buck Williams/Horace Grant type. The guy that gives you 10 and 10 and can defend the other teams best big. Even be an Enforcer when needed. truth is he is pretty darn close to that in his current role.

You're right. It seems I had just read a similar article on CK with the headline "JT is totally over Sac" or something like that which colored my perception of this interview - I ttook in the headline on that blog before I read the article itself.

I stand corrected - JT wasn't really out of line in the interview.

This just supports the notion that JT wants out of Sacto. Can't say I blame him. But I can't say I'd blame Kings' management for trading him either. JT is looking too much in the rearview mirror for my liking, and he's never going to be the sharpest basketball player on the floor. I hope they find a home for him elsewhere, provided the Kings get something worthwhile for him in return.

I got no impression that JT wanted anything. He was reminiscing about a very strange career that was a mass of failure and change. It has always been my view he was a properly paid bench player. Let us say what I am hoping for happens and that is we end up with Cauley-Stein yet keep JT. Landry starts playing and we have an over paid yet pretty darn decent bench. There is no rush to make a decision about him as I would wait until after the draft. 6'11" veterans who have played center and PF do not grow on trees. Sure he still fouls and get techs that properly can be called stupid. Every player on this team has holes in his game and simply because the holes exist doesn't mean there is an easy replacement.

If what I want arrives on our doorstep, we than have players on our bench that are pretty good and could be traded if we saw an urgent need elsewhere. I feel such an intense need to trade players on this forum and maybe it is simply because idle minds need to be occupied with thought but I don't see anything urgent. In fact, we might benefit from a period of stability so the coach and players can get used to each other.

My take away from JT's comments is that he was highlighting an immense period of instability.

I'm sure the Kings have pondered many times about Jason Thompson in another situation too. The trick is how to get him there.

JT is a pro though, nobody should be worried about him checking out on the team or the fans. Not going to happen. Even when he got nailed to the bench during the years he remained a pros pro.

Its just really frustrating watching him cry and argue over every call then going to the media and talking like he doesnt care. He makes millions upon millions of dollars to play a game and this is how he reacts over coaching changes....i wont miss him but im sure many bars and clubs downtown and across the US will!

This is a theme with JT - reminiscing about the past instability. It's not a one-off. I'd be surprised if his agent hasn't asked for a trade.

He did a radio interview with Kayte a couple weeks ago and it was the same conversation. Talked about how they keep bringing in guys to replace him. Not sure what good it does him to be thinking and talking about that

I respectfully disagree here. He is not even close to "solid at pretty much everything." In fact, it's just the opposite. He's subpar at pretty much everything with the exception of being an average defender and and average rebounder. His decision making is terrible, he has a terrible demeanor on the court, and is basketball IQ is not good. I wouldn't mind him getting like 10-15 minutes a night, but he really doesn't add anything to our lineup by starting and getting the minutes he's getting.

I'd have absolutely no problem trading him and going in a different direction. He probably feels the same way too.

This is really frustrating because if he was 'subpar at pretty much everything' he'd be out of the league. Sometimes fans can get down on their own players and simply don't realize what they have. He's not good enough to be a starter, but considering his size and mobility allows him to play both the PF and Center positions, and he is a hustler/rebounder/decent post-defender on a good contract, he's a great option as a 3rd big.

And to prove it, here are a list of the other team's 3rd bigs. You tell me all the players who are vastly superior to JT:

Bobcats - Cody Zeller (Not living up to his College Hype...which I expected to be the case)
Bucks - Khris Middleton (Almost an undersized PF, can't play Center)
Bulls - Taj Gibson (I'll take Gibson over JT but he's making more than JT too)
Cavaliers - Tyler Zeller (7pts, 5reb)
Celtics - Kris Humphries (6.6pts, 5.5 Reb, 12mil dollars!!!!!)
Clippers - Ryan Hollins (4pts, 2 Reb. He's got height...but that's it)
Denver - Darrell Arthur (JT-lite. 6pts, 4 Reb. Too small to play Center)
Grizzlies - Ed Davis (Would probably take him over JT but he can't play Center)
Hawks - Gustavo Ayon (4pts, 4 Reb)
Heat - Chris Andersen (Definitely better Shotblocking, but can't cover Centers)
Jazz - Enes Kanter (He's fallen off the map this year, but I'd probably take him over JT and hope he gets it turned around)
Knicks - Amar'e Stoudemire (He's finished)
Lakers - Jordan Hill (Probably should be starting instead of Shawne Williams but Diantone likes shooters. I'd probably take Hill over JT especially if I could get him cheaper.)
Magic - Andrew Nicholson (Adequate player but can't play Center)
Mavericks - Brandon Wright (Can't rebound and can't play Center)
Nets - Mason Plumlee (Surprisingly having a good year, but still not as good as JT. 6pts, 3.5 Reb)
Nuggets - Kenneth Faried (I love Faried. But he's too small to play Center. If we had a good back-up Center as well though...I might consider it.)
Pacers - Luis Scola (Always killed us. Can't rebound but can score. Can't play Center. So toss-up depending on what you need. Scola is the better player but is 33 so JT is probably the better bet long-term)
Pelicans - Alexis Ajinca (3pts, 4 reb, been a disapointment)
Pistons - Jonas Jerebko (8pts, 5 reb. Not getting time in Detriot but a good 3rd big. Don't consider him an upgrade over JT though)
Raptors - Tyler Hansbrough (JT-lite, and too undersized to play Center)
Rockets - Donatas Montiejunas (Can't even get off the bench they go small and play Casspi instead. 3pts, 2 reb)
76ers - Lavoy Allen (5pts, 6 rebs, and undersized)
Suns - Morris Twins (Sorry don't like stretch 4s as 3rd Big types and they can't play Center)
Spurs - Jeff Ayres/Boris Diaw (JT much better than Ayres and Diaw is soft and can't play Center. He's only motivated under Pop/Parker)
Thunder - Nick Collison (Great 3rd big and what you'd like to see JT become. Collison is now 33 so JT is the better bet going forward)
Timberwolves - Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (Great defender but undersized as PF and has no hope playing Center)
Trailblazers - Meyers Leonard (I'd take Leonard over JT right now)
Warriors - Marresse Speights (7.5pts, 4.5Reb)
Wizards - Nene (Clearly the better player but costs way too much. 13mil/year)

I take it you wanted to prove a point. :p It's interesting about JT that as much complaining there has been about him, as many times as he is referred to as a 3rd big, he has been a starter for the Kings and hasn't been unseated. Now that may say more about the Kings than JT but still ....... :)

I love this post. You put it perfectly, that's how I'm feeling about Jason Thompson. It would not bother me to see him go.

And, on the other hand, I did not like the post at all.

Jason Thompson isn't the villain here. He's gone through a LOT in his time on the Kings. He's the only one left, the most veteran Kings player on the team. Very few players see what he's seen, in that the ownership, front office, coaching staff, all the support staff AND EVERY OTHER PLAYER ON THE TEAM has changed while he alone has remained. His entire career has been in a state of flux. I defy you or anyone else so hellbent on getting rid of him to try to imagine that in your professional life and see how you'd handle it.

This is like the little man argument. 6th man, awesome. JT as a bench player, 7th-9th man? Fantastic! As a starter, not so much.

JT has survived an epic all time crap show since he's been here. It'd be hard to play for a less stable franchise. Give the guy a break.

If you tell me you would react any differently if year after year at your job all of your coworkers were swapped out, year after year you got lukewarm support yourself, you were demoted, sometimes it looked like they'd fire you, but then they'd tepidly bring you back one more time. Change your duties a little. Always be interviewing to see if they could replace you. All the faces wee different, they'd changed the computer system 6 times in 6 years, the man who hired you was fired, and still you sat in your cubicle, neither valued nor secure, for a company in the red every month, awaiting the next manager above you to be fired so that he could once again change over the system, your coworkers, and maybe you might linger, or not. You can never be sure. If somebody tells me that's their situation and that they go to work with a smile and their face and a chipper song in their heart, I'd tell them they're a liar, and not even a good one.

Great minds think alike and all that.
