Joey Dorsey Anyone?

KingNoy

G-League
Anyone see some potential in this kid? Wide, strong frame, nice hops...maybe a baby Dwight?

The energy turned up big time when him and carl landry were heading the front line tonight against the Pistons. What do you guys think of this as a starting lineup?

1. Evans
2. Casspi
3. Landry
4. Thompson
5. Dorsey

Any variation with Dorsey and Landry in at the same time I think would be nice. Any comments?

I actually thought during the game that he does have the most similar build to Dwight that I've seen in anyone. I don't think he's quite ready to be a starter yet, but I definitely see some potential, and who knows, he might end up being the real steal of the trade.

So we have one threat for the 3 out there with that lineup? I thought one of the strengths of having Evans was so he could kick out to our deep threats. Doesn't really work if we don't have any.

I'm all for giving Dorsey and Landry major minutes right now. Dorsey has just as much, and maybe more upside than Hawes.

Based off what? That he has a nose around the hoop? Hawes has the length to do it, and can once he hits the weights more. Oh, and Hawes also has a pretty good shot and pass!

Hawes has way more upside.

It's not like we have many other deep threat options. We could also do:

1. Evans
2. Beno
3. Casspi
4. Landry
5. Dorsey

Also, one of our other concerns was stopping on the inside, and Dorsey looks like he's capable of doing so.

Then at that point what Point guard comes off the bench? We need Beno to come off the bench for now or we might hit a log jam which Evans getting too tired.

IF he hits the weights more. Also, Hawes seems to think way too much of himself. Sure he might have a lil more upside right now, but it seems like his lack of a good work ethic makes him a flop.

If he joins summer league later this year then maybe I'll see it differently.

I was hoping he would get some time after we were losing by about 30 -_- and he did some good things...if we're gonna continue to suck against everyone playing him can't hurt at all.

You're right, I do agree Hawes does have more upside. However, we keep saying things like what is bolded in your quote. "Once he does this, or once he learns that.." Spencer has been here 3 years now and he has yet to do any of it.

I'm sorry, if Dorsey is going to come in and PLAY LIKE A CENTER - then he should be taking Spencer's minutes.

Spencer has been in the league 3 years now and routinely gets 3 boards or less. Who knows, maybe Dorsey can turn into a Ben Wallace type player.

Last time i checked we were rebuilding and not going for a title, give him time, hes only 21.

I agree. He's actually the number 1 person I want to see minutes on the team right now. I really do feel him and Reke could be beastly together in a couple years. :)

I mean honestly i feel Dorsey could be a good player, but i'd like to see im some more short stints before we give him more minutes.

Also, I really like Greene at PF, kinda like Green over at the Thunder. Why does Noc get minutes over him at that position?

I like Dorsey, but their upside isn't even close. Hawes is taller, longer, much more offensively gifted and he is 21 while Dorsely is 26. You can argue that you don't thin Hawes will reach his potential, but he certainly has more.

I think the same thing about a Tyreke and Donte pairing and I also wish Donte would get the most minutes of ANY of our guys right now as I feel he is the one that could turn into Rekes number 2.

Joey Dorsey had a hell of a game tonight as well if he can grab boards and provide energy Id see no problem with him having alot of minutes at center.

Oh, I agreed later and expanded my argument in a different direction a couple posts down. :)

Just saw that. I agree about liking Dorsey and want to see him get minutes. I liked him out of college and was glad we got him in the trade. However, I am still bullish on Hawes. I want to see him get minutes and time to prove himself, especially since we are not going anywhere this season and will likely have a tough choice to make in the draft.

Spence has had some great games, he has just been very inconsistent. As I have noted before, I don't think people are fair to him. I find it odd that he is actually younger than Greene and yet when Greene has a good game people go nuts and when he follows it up with a stinker no one seems to mind. However, when Hawes has a good game people try to nitpick it or say "about time" and when he follows it up with a stinker he gets called demeaning nicknames. And this isn't a knock on Greene, I love him and think he has the second most potential on our roster behind Reke. However, I feel Hawes deserves the same patience and respect.

"Upside" is pointless if the player refuses to use it. What do we have to lose playing Dorsey? At least showed the willingness to bang inside, grab some boards, and knock some people around on defense. It was quite noticeable having 2 toughness big guys with Landry and Dorsey in at the same time in the 4th quarter, changing the defense flow of the entire game. Give him 18 mins a night, and see what he does with it.

Problem is, 1 reb performances in 27 mins aren't a "Bad night". It's a lack of effort which Donte brings on most nights, even if he is terrible.

Well, it is unfair, but it's natural because when Greene or Casspi have bad games, there's Noc and Udoka and Garcia, and a million other players to step up, so we don't really feel like our woes lie in the sf position. However, when Spence or JT are not playing well, then we get killed in the paint on both sides of the floor and there's no one to step up (well, now we got a bunch of new guys so we'll see how that works).

I also feel Spencer needs patience, he has all the offense skills already to be a superb offensive center. He just needs to put in more effort and get stronger, I firmly believe he has it in him to do so. The only time I find myself question Westphal is when handling Spencer. He is our only 7fter and he has had GREAT games this year, just most of the time they end in losses.(LA and Denver iirc) I would love to see Hawes get every chance possible as I know he will blow up somewhere and we will live to regret it.

Spencer has been in the league 3 years now and routinely gets 3 boards or less.

Some of this is due to playing time issues. If you look at his per-36 numbers for each game, he has only been under 5 rebounds per-36 seven times this year (and three of them were in the past three games, which does kind of illustrate the recency effect). Those are bad outings, no doubt. On the other hand, he has been over 10 rebounds per-36, a number nobody can possibly complain about, 14 times this season - twice as often.

So while his rebounding may be a work in progress, it's not like he has demonstrated no acumen there. To be honest, I watched him pretty carefully in the past two games and he was almost always in rebounding position and boxing out on the defensive end (with the obvious exception of the times he was taken out of the play by attempting to block/alter a shot). Very rarely did it look like he got beat to his spot or took a play off - the ball just didn't seem to bounce to him very often.

earlier in the season evans was called a mini lebron. now we have a baby dwight. all we need now is a mini kobe, mini cp3, and mini tim duncan and we'll have ourselves a miniature sized all star team :D
