We gave up next to nothing for a legitimate, full sized, starting caliber SF who is currently shooting 39% from deep on 6.4 attempts. To make matters BETTER, his contract ends in time for us to re up our young studs. Wow.

OK, have been a fairly vocal detractor of Barnes the last while on here, but considering what we're giving up here, this has to be considered a win. Fills the SF hole with a proven, productive player and lose basically nothing. I'm rooting for us Barnes, keep knocking down those 3s and keep the ball moving!

Exactly. Guys don't get worse at age 26. They end up in systems where they don't fit. Doncic came along and changed their whole system, they pivoted quickly and got Porzingis. They basically had to trade Barnes either this year or next, he just didn't fit anymore, and that salary made a mediocre fit as a third option not viable. It's a good trade for them too.

He can fill that big sf role, and he helps take some pressure off Belly as another stretch 4. Or maybe he makes it easier to start Bagley.

Now the Burke move makes a lot more sense. Remember all the minutes for Ben and Troy and JJ? While not a ton, they now go to a very solid player in Burke. Now if Buddy or Bogi get nicked up there is legit depth. Burke can help fill the Yogi role too, as a decent ball handler.

We gave up potentially 25M in cap space next year. However I really doubt we could attract a FA as good as Barnes anyway.

Exactly. This was a salary dump for the Mavs. We used our cap without the uncertainty of free agent negotiations.

He's been in a fairly long slump, shooting 32% from 3 in 2019. He had a very hot couple of weeks last year which has inflated his numbers a bit. Hopefully he can get back to where he was soon.

Very much so. Athletic and long too. I used to watch a lot of him when he was with the Warriors. Has all the tools, but lacks that special sauce that makes very good players great. That team was so talented, and I haven't seen him consistently in awhile.. so I honestly don't know exactly what it is that he lacks... That said, I think he'll fit here just fine. Playoffs now feel like a very real thing.
