Jimmer starting tonight! What's your take?

Hey since everyone on this board thinks Jimmer is terrible I thought I would look at Kobe Bryant's rookie stats. They are pretty close. Kobe has the edge so far, but Jimmer has not been too bad for a rookie.

Jimmer:

Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
11-12 SAC 10 1 23.8 0.360 0.308 0.889 0.8 0.8 1.6 2.5 0.6 0.0 1.8 1.2 8.4

Kobe:
Year Team G GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
96-97 LAL 71 6 15.5 0.417 0.375 0.819 0.7 1.2 1.9 1.3 0.7 0.3 1.58 1.44 7.6

Please don't go there. Just a foolish comparison.

I'm gonna bring up the racial card for a second, because like it or not it IS a reality here:
I think you are right. There must be something about race. If Jimmer is not white, most of us in this board will just say bench him or send him to D-league for playing ugly upto this point. But yeah, he is white so we don't want to say that and we want him to go as far as he can.

How do you want to play the race card now?

Good question.

I think I'll double-down.

I've noticed that Jimmer's defenders really bust their *** to stay with Jimmer when he's driving - they even stop on a dime and lunge back when he stops-and-pops. Help defenders shift over VERY quickly to stop him from getting to the hoop. They pressure Jimmer on the dribble more than average.

I notice they don't do this against every player.

What if they play harder against Jimmer because they don't want to be shown up by the pasty white guy from BYU?
What if they get ALL kinds of **** from their buddies if they get shown on a Jimmer highlight reel?
Wouldn't that motivate them to play harder against Jimmer specifically?

To be clear - I in no way feel that's racist - that may just be reality of the social dynamics of the league.

Stop using facts and statistics on this forum, please. Such things are not welcome. Instead, just make opinionated statements. Lots of them.

I am so sorry that I hadn't noticed the shackles and chains keeping you here before. Would you like me to bring you a cookie?

Many black players have came out and said they work harder to defend a white player. They dont want get schooled by a whiteboy

Hey since everyone on this board thinks Jimmer is terrible

This is not true and exagerration destroys your credibility. We all know he is a rookie and the main people blowing his abilities out of proportion are people like you.

If that mean old Tyreke Evans scrub would just pass Jimmer the ball one more time every game, everybody would see how awesome Jimmer is! Trade Tyreke

I am not saying Jimmer will be as good as Kobe. I am just pointing out that Jimmer is doing okay for a rookie. We shouldn't be panicking on the kid.

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, Kobe was 18 at the tiem and straihgt out of high school. Jimmer is 22 with 4 years of college under his belt. Slight difference.

To put that in perspective, when Kobe was 22-23 it was the 2000-01 season and theese were his stats:
28.5ppg 5.8reb 5.0ast 1.7stl on 46.4% shooting.

Now fortunately we are not asking Jimmer to be Kobe, but its still not a comparison you want to make, I think. It might not be quie as glamorous as Kobe, but if I were going to try to make excuses for Jimmer's struggles I think I would stay closer to home and go with Kevin Maritn instead, who entered the league the same age as Jimmer and barely played his rookie year while shooting .385.

You are really reaching here. Is skin color a big issue where you are from? Everything you've said I see happening regardless of color. You do tend to see it even more with rookies though. Vets like to send a welcome message to rooks whenever they play them.

What amuses/annoys me the most is that this season we've got 2 groups of posters. One group is all "eh ma gawdz Jimmer is gonna be MVP! wooha." then we objectively criticize Jimmer's play and they respond with "everyone on this board thinks Jimmer is terrible". On the other hand, you've got a group that have taken it upon themselves to be the Gods of criticism, a title to which no other poster can lay claim to. They're all "Everyone here is a homer, no one criticizes players. Be careful if you criticize them, you may get flamed."

So ... it appears that this year, criticizing players = everyone hates that player, isn't giving him a fair chance. When we don't, or say things like they're young = There's no logic on this board, everyone is blind, we're giving players free passes.

I give up.

LOL.

I don't get the aggression on both sides; he plays for the Kings, and while he does i want him to succeed, that's it.

lets just see what happens, i don't understand why he has to be labeled the new kobe or the biggest bust in franchise history.

everyone is just saying what they see; all the OTT stuff is just silly IMO.

Don't give up Mac! Never, ever. I'm not sure who the people are you are referring to specifically but I have noticed a lot of very new members doing the things you say. Most of them are fans of certain players, and then Kings fans as a byproduct.

I don't know why people would label him a bust yet, he works hard but his shot isn't dropping. That happens.

I think most people just see his body language in game. It's not of a confident player yet - which is to be expected. I think he just needs more time and to ease his way into the lineup without much pressure and he'll succeed. Just needs time to get comfortable with the game
