Jerry Reynolds stepping down as Director of Player Personnel

Gotta love and respect Mr. Kings himself but I think this is the right decision and just about seal Napiers fate as well if he's not brought back for the commentary. Thank you for everything Jerry.

I think that was inevitable, by choice or not, once Petrie was out. I can only imagine the expression on Vivek's face when the braintrust sat down around a table to discuss how to bring in a shotblocker and Jerry told them shotblocking was overrated. Entirely different basketball philosophy.

Whether they bring him back as the longtime color guy will be interesting.

If Reynolds TV job was safe, he wouldn't have to ask to keep it to a news reporter. Looks like every spot in the organization is at risk for change and no one has reassured Jerry that he will be back.
He said he hasn't talked to anyone yet.

The transition has had some bumps in the road, which is perfectly normal considering how quickly they're having to get things done to be on track for the draft, summer league, etc.

I think Jerry had stayed as Director of Player Personnel primarily because of Geoff Petrie and, with the changing of the guard, it was only logical to assume he'd be replaced at that position. Reynolds actually did Vivek a favor by stepping down now.

I do agree, however, that most of the positions in basketball operations are going to be at risk, and they should be. What's the old saying? A new broom sweeps clean?

EDIT: Anybody else wondering now if Scot Pollard being at the rally was no coincidence? He's currently doing broadcast duties for Kansas. I wonder if he might be considered for the color commentary spot?

Not sure how I feel about this. I like Jerry, but a mix up couldn't hurt.

Now.....what to do with Grant?
I don't know why people have a problem with grant as a broadcaster. He's one of the best in my opinion and a major part of what Sacramento Kings basketball is to me. As a radio personality i can see how people don't like him but he keeps games exciting. Some of the other local guys I've listened to straight bore me to death.

Grant is polarizing. I don't know the answer to this, but does the Kings organization want a guy who is polarizing representing them in the community and on the air? May not come down to just his play by play ability. Could come down to personality.

I agree with Kings Faithful, Grant must be kept..

Pollard might be good next to Grant next year doing the PBP, I don't know, never heard his commentary.. but he obviously has bball knowledge - telling Petrie not to draft TRob.. All respect to Jerry, but I never thought he served much purpose on the commentary..

I agree with Kings faithful, Grant must be kept.. he is actually one of the best PBP in the game... on radio, I have a mixed view.. I think he sold out the community backing the Maloofs even to today, but it cant be argued that he gets ratings.. hell, he sits in for Rome regularly.

Even though I think Grant is a very good play by play guy, I would like to see him blown out with all the rest. I think he has to answer for his stubborn support of the Maloofs as they tried to destroy the franchise, , and his sniping at CWebb, BJax, DMC, and many others over the years. I cannot stand it when he decides to take up the campaign AGAINST one of the Kings, and he's done it time and time again.

There are other play by play guys...

Vivek does not have the authority to take him off KHTK does he? But maybe 1140 will decide to go with the program and bring in new blood too.

I'm kinda done with Grant.

Somehow it doesn't seem right to can the guys who were crying over the team leaving just a couple of years ago as a reward for it staying.

This would be the only reason why I'd be ok with him getting the ax. He turned his back on us.

Are you guys kidding me? You must have missed Grant's shows over the last few years completely throwing fan after fan under the bus especially during the Anaheim fiasco. Grant must sink with the ship.

I like Jerry and Grant doing the games. Especially Jerry. You folks that Don't like Grant's KHTK show should not listen to it. Seriously, just turn the d&%$ thing off:)

This was expected one way or another but it would be interesting to see if they keep him as part of the TV crew. It might be like the Bobby Jackson decision. Keep him in some other role because of the roots and connection he has to the area and fans.

Grant is fine as a play-by-play guy. His childish decision to pick fights with players on the team for stupid arbitrary reasons I could do without. And it's hard to argue he was a net positive influence on the team during this whole Maloof-related ordeal. He does his job competently enough that I'm not going to complain if he's retained as a commentator, but if he is let go I wouldn't shed any tears for him. He made his bed professionally. Jerry Reynolds is fine as a commentator as well but it's long overdue for the team to find a new Director of Player Personnel. That's a job that should be filled by Ranadive or the new GM anyway.

I don't listen to Grant on the radio for this exact reason. I hate his radio show. But I think his play-by-play is really solid. I hope they keep him for that, take away the radio show, and tell him to keep his opinions to himself.

Agree that Grant and Jerry should stay as the TV crew. And also that Grant is much worse on the radio, although if Vivek told him that he could only do one of the two because of the conflict of interest, I'm curious if Grant would elect to stay on radio instead.

This sums up my feelings pretty well, too.

At this point in our journey, I'm not gonna sweat the small stuff and after the fight we've been in to keep our Kings, who we keep or replace as our TV broadcast team is definitely small stuff.

It'd be a dream for me if they'd can both of them and put Gerould on the TV feed and Kozimor on the radio feed.
Gary Gerould loves radio. From what I've heard in the past, he has absolutely ZERO interest in moving to the TV side.
