He has some of the worst shot selection I've seen. It can be painful to watch. Too bad because he'd be a good player if he could just choose his shots better.

The first game was pathetic. JT must have missed like 5 or 6 shots point blank, just like last year. He is very frustrating to watch, however, I am not ready to trade him....just yet.

he averages more fouls/minute than points/minute....this is his 3rd season now (i think) we gota trade him now while he has a little bit of value, he is hurting this team!!!

yuuup!! i can see y we drafted him in the 1st rd he had potential, but is not going to live up to it and is just not doing ANY good for this team

So here's the first "get rid of a player" thread of the season. After 96 total minutes of basketball. Wow. JT had a poor outing, very poor, but trade him because of it? Wow.
I see Haslem type potential in JT. A very solid pf down the road. Could start for some, would be a good asset off the bench for others. IMO, what JT needs, is to be locked in the film room and have the key thrown away until he realizes what an NBA foul is.
Jasons talent or ability isn't the issue. It's his mentality. He gets extremely fustrated after picking up a couple fouls, and it takes him right out of the game. The mental aspect should improve over time. I know some will say they haven't seen any improvement in JT from last year to this year. Well, it usually takes a lot more than 2 games for the offseason work to show. JT's first year almost shouldn't count, given the abismal coaching he had. Same for Donte. IMO, last year was basically their rookie years in terms of receiving quality coaching. We've had guys, especially the bigs, come and go all training camp. Give them some time to get to know eachother, and get in a rhythm.
But trade JT based on tonight, or tonight and wednesday combined? Asinine statement to make.

2nd game in guys JT has proven that with all his faults, he can still be a dependable guy for us. The best part about all this new depth at the big man spot is that now he can settle in and be that dependable garbage man with a consistent J we need him to be. As the season goes on he will improve...
One more thing there's a guy on this team with all the potential to be special in the world who actually is more dissapointing then JT that's who will deserve a thread like this soon if he doesn't step it up.

man im talkin about his whole career so far! look at last season, seemed like he almost NEVER finished when he had the ball in the paint. he either got it stripped, missed, offensive foul, r travled. so far this season, he hasnt improved on any part of his game!!!

coaching and being frustrated really should have nothing to do with finishing at the rim. he is in the nba and i have seen him miss so many easy uncontested shots rite at the rim. he seems to foul (offense n defense) in the worst possible time...a lot

He is a much better man to man defender now than when he was a rookie, although it didn't show tonight. He rebounding has improved. His fouls did go down the last 25 games last year, and he finished the year well in that department, although again, wouldn't show tonight. Since Landry came on board, JT doesn't go up soft nearly as often, and doesn't get his shot rejected nearly as often either. I think Landry deserves some of the credit for that. The end of last year, the preseason and wed, he's gone up much more aggresive at times and tries to dunk in traffic much more often, compared to this time last year. Personally, I think his shot selection also has improved. He's not as rushed in the post, and easily the majority of his jumpers are good looks, and well timed. He also seems to be developing a turn around jumper from the right baseline, which he showed in preseason.
It's going to be tough for Jason this year in that playing time won't be guaranteed, and he has much more competition up front. No Spencer and Sean May this year. But I disagree that he hasn't improved. I've seen every single Kings game but 2 since we drafted JT. My eyes tell me he has improved in mutiple areas. The problem is that the mistakes he still makes tend to take him right out of the game and overshadow his improvement, whether it's something which mentally causes him to lose focus, or foul trouble which physically puts his butt right on the bench.
If you had a choice, would you rather have the JT you saw coming into this season and finished last season, or the JT we had as a rookie? I think everyone would pick the current version, and I think in 2 years we would rather have that version(JT at 25) than the present.

You must be talking about your fantasy team...you can bench him THERE (I sure did) but in real life, wait for about 10-15 games before you go that route...waaaay too soon to yell for it.

Its two bad games. His lack of consistency will cost him minutes now that we have more options, but anyone who watched this team during the first half of last season knows he can be a effective big. He can be a asset to this team, just maybe not every night at this point in his career.

Didn't expect to see one of these threads this early.
My only beef with JT is how he misses point blank layups. The guy is freaking 6'11 and can't even score a foot away from the rim when he's wide open, and it's his 3rd year. And he's getting paid millions to play basketball. And he somehow hasn't improved in that area very much.
Obviously we shouldn't give up on him, but dang you'd expect your power forward to be able to make a layup! In preseason he showed off some nice turn around jumpers, would be nice if he could make those consistently.

I am ready to part ways with JT and Donte in a trade for a young bonafide 3 point shooter and a 2nd rounder.
I am a JT fan as he is a King but i want whats best for this organization.
This statement by the original poster is early to make as we are 2 games into the season.
He has his good days and bad days, but unless we get something we truely need i dont want to see him go.

Its not about the season....its about JT being in his 3rd...3rd year and he is "STILL" missing point blank layups. He has had this problem for 3 years.
THANK YOU! I have been saying this since last year. JT is a great person but he does NOT fit with our team at all. With all the new rules and stuff it will be worse than last year. He will foul out almost everytime over dumb little crap. Jason also has terrible shot selection. He should be strongly considered for trade if the right one comes along. Darrnel Jackson did alot better than Jason. Just watch, in the next few games Jason will get worse, not better...

One of the reasons I joined this board was to add a voice questioning what you guys see in Jason Thompson.
I have sat and endured 2 years of this guy's play every minute gritting my teeth at the damage he does to the Kings the majority of time when he's on the floor.
In my eyes, most of KF have given JT a pass for what they crucify almost everyone else about.
The OP is a tad premature in conclusion, but the focus on JT's spectacularly immature play (after 2 full years of HARD, painful lessons and he's still making the same mistakes) is fully warranted.
I say give him 20 more games to show whether there is a real likelihood he will EVER gain any basketball IQ and clutchness, and if he doesn't show it, trade him for anything you can get because every minute he is on the floor is precious time taken away from someone who can actually help a team win.

Thank you theres no reason to call anybody out after 2 games where as a team we've shown toughness and grit. However JT is the least of our troubles he's atleast out there playing ball, Donte is having a slow start for sure.
