Jason Thompson attending Big Man Camp

Blount has a decent mid range shot at best. Does not even AVG 4 rebounds a game and less than 1 assist and 8.4 PPG. As long as Thompson keeps his work ethic he should far surpass Blount in maybe less than a whole season.

jason thompson's body will never look like malone's. malone was heralded as one of the strongest pf's to ever play the game, and he kept in shape. thompson doesn't have the frame to ever pack as much muscle on as malone.
as for the howard comparo... well, you stepped back. howards dont come around, and when they do, its not there at pick 12, no matter how small the school.

when its all said and done, id say his ceiling is one or two all star appearances selected in by coaches. id love to be wrong though.

I am by no means implying that Thompson will one day be as strong as Malone, but Malone looked very similar to Thompson when he came into the league. He didn't get to be the powerhouse he turned into until later in his career. He was just a thin talented big man that could run like a deer.
I still hate the fact that the Kings took Joe Klein with the #7 pick, leaving Karl Malone for Utah at #13. How history could have been changed.

Karl Malone was listed throughout his NBA career at 6'9, 250-256 lbs. I saw him play at Arco mid-late 80's several times, including his rookie season. He was an incredibly chiseled basketball player who would glide down the court effortlessly. The fact that he had John Stockton was no doubt a big key to his overall success, but Malone also worked extremely hard to improve his game each season.

There are definite similarities between him as a very young player and Jason Thompson who at 21 years old 6'11, 250 lbs. is at least a lot more buffed than a super skinny Kevin Garnett when he came into the NBA right out of high school. I'm not over-selling rookie JT at this point, only saying he has interesting multiple skills, a solid well defined NBA body, and tremendous NBA potential. On the other hand, Donte Green is a rather raw teenager, playing one year of college hoops, a SF talented outside scorer (at least this past summer league), with a TONS to learn and grow before he will ever shine at the NBA level. Both JT and Greene could be big stars in the league one day, but I'd put a bigger bet on JT, and IF they both hit stardom JT probably gets there faster.

Iteresting the Karl Malone comparison comes up. JT's biggest thing going against him is the school he went to. Did you know that Karl also went to a small school. Louisiana Tech. He averaged 18pts 9reb his senior year compared to JT 20pts 12reb. Karl in his prime was 6'9 256 JT right now is 6'11 250. just thought I would put that out there.

Yeah good point. You just never know what can happen, we just have to hope for the best.

Not to belabor the point, but I think the main reason some people have made the comparison is because of Thompson's ability to run the floor for a big man. Whether he ever achieves what Malone has, is the stuff dreams are made of. Hmmm, I think I heard that somewhere. However, even if not, he has a chance to be special.
