Sacramento Kings who were on the verge to lose Predrag Stojakovic (Predrag Stojakovic) last summer, now are in a lot better position to negotiate with the Serbian NBA star about extending his contract.

The owner of the NBA club from Californian capital Joe Malouf said that he will offer Peja the maximum wage and expressed his wishes that the Serbian stay at Arco Arena until the end of his career.

Stojakovic’s agent David Bouman confirmed that the Sacrmanto starlet is in a lot better mood than he was at the beginning of the season and that he will be more than happy to extend his current contract that ties him to Kings until 2006.

Wonder how soon this 'report' will be made public here in Sac, and is so when the signing will take place??

i'd love love to see peja stay, but he better play like he did in the playoffs, not when the season just begun in 04.

who is Joe Malouf ;)[/QUOTE

haha "The owner of the NBA club from Californian capital"

its just bad translation into English.

kinda reminds me of the Japanese --> English online spoof.

ALL YOU BASE ARE BELONG TO US!

The Kings overpaid Bibby, Christie and Webber.

I didn't really have a problem with the money paid to Webber because of the position he played and his skills.

No way you give a max deal to a one dimensional player...NO WAY!

Personally I dont think Bibby or Christie(made everyone better on D) were overpaid, however, I agree that Peja doesn't deserve the max deal.

But I guess Peja and his agent will take into the fact that the previous deal, Peja was underpaid(which is true), and should be due for a max contract

Interesting... I wouldn't mind a max deal for Peja if we also have a plan to get us a #1 go to option.

Why? Isn't that contradictory? Shouldn't you only pay a player the max if he is your #1 option?

What is Sacrmanto? Are you sure this guy is a professional writer? He can't spell for beans.........

"Stojakovic’s agent David Bouman confirmed that the Sacrmanto starlet ... "

STARLET!? ha ha ha ha ha ha. He knows Predrag only too well apparently.

Yes - you would think the Magoofs would know by now not to overpay Ms Stojakovic like this... oh well.

"STARLET" bwa ha ha ha ha!!!

If Peja can play like he did two years ago prior to Webbers return before the playoffs then hes worth every penny... because let me remind you... we were the best team in the league at that time. Bibby deserves every penny as well but when hes tired and has carried this team all season you cant expect monster games every night in the playoffs. Peja deserves it as long as he can become the best shooter in NBA history and destroy other teams offensively next season.

How much is max?

I have my doubts about that source -- Serbian site with stories written for fans by fans and they have the scoop? Combined with language difficulties, might very well be an opinion rather than a fact.

Mentioned before that if you want to win a championship you simply cannot have a shaky playoff performer get a max contract. Makes it virtually impossible. And 20pts 4rebs 2ast is a long way from max anyway (then again so was Kenyon Martin). If he really wants that, and he may well, and you're supposedly a genius GM looking at it with your head and not your heart, you have to very seriously consider moving him even if you never would have otherwise.

I believe I've raised the Allan Houston spectre before -- a devastating move for NY about 5 years ago. They had a shooter. A very good shooter. Borderline All-Star shooter. But a softie and not a franchise player, and they knew it. But they backed themselves into a corner where it was either overpay him or lose him, and they blinked and overpaid him. And of course they never won jack after that, and they are still pinned by the contract to this day.

I highly doubt that they are signing Pedja soon. It does not make sense most likely the Kings will wait for a new CBA aggreement. I could see them signing him the max if the max contracts are shorten to 5 years.

all you guys ripping the writer's english, remember that this is an international source.

They'd be crazy if they sign Peja to a max deal. He's not worth that kind of $$$ unless he miraculously grows a pair and plays more like a man than a mouse.

f he does get max contract, he better take his game to the next level. No excuses that everyon in Greece is out at the beach. Spend summers improving your game and come back much better player.

I love Peja and always have been homerish towards him. But he will need to add one or two more dimensions to his game to earn his max contract.

On side note. I hate agents. I think if anyone we can blame his agent partially for the whoe Webber fisaco. His agent leaking storries and eventually "making" Peja come out with trade demands could have been a clever plot to get his client more $$$ which in turn means more $$$ for his rich pockets.

For max money he needs to turn into Dirk by November :)

Let’s see, Peja has been an all star.

He almost led the league in scoring last year and also was in the mention for MVP.

Today he is the lowest paid player at his position with his skills.

I think Peja deserves a max out contract. Either way he will get it here or another team. I think he is a good piece to our puzzle as long as we get the other 2 pieces...

Defense and an all star PF.

If we don't give Peja a max deal, who will and why should they?

I think that we absolutely cannot afford to give Peja a max deal. I think it'd lock us into mediocrity for the rest of the decade, we'd see something similar to what Bricklayer mentioned in the Allan Houston scenario.

ALLAN HOUSTON!!! you can't compare Peja to Allan Houston unless Peja suffers a career destroying knee injury like Houston! Peja would without a doubt get a max deal from another team.

Don't forget next year is a contract year. I expect Peja to pull out all of his tricks, hes got a lot to prove. For one he is responsible for the success and failures of the Kings and he needs to perform for a contract. He'll either blow everybody away or blow himself out of the leagues elite.

Fair call too.

Peja has been under-paid for the last few years and the only reason he would get the max would be to "make up" for him being under-pais up until now.

IMHO, Peja is not the player you would give max contract to.
