I'm a believer in Keegan's ability to perform both offensively and defensively. His rookie year was more the free and easy Keegan that was an extension of his college stint under the Iowa coaching, with his dad's input, that he received there. Then the intensity of the pro coaching teaching techniques and expectations took a toll on him, wore him down, and eventually stifled him. He turned to defense to display his skills in a more non-confrontational way that is more likely to generate complements rather than criticism.
Keegen's stoic ways are a cloaking mechanism for what is a very emotional and sensitive individual. His dad, Kenyon, revealed that Keegan has a volatile temper and Kenyon worked hard to try to find a way for him to cope with the complexities and frustrations of basketball without outward temper tantrums...and thus we have the present Keegan.
Something in the manner that he has been coached on the Kings has led to his regression and retraction into his shield. Notice that Kenyon was actively involved in communications during Keegan's rookie year while now he is eerily silent. He knows something is not right but won't actively engage. (Unlike the Bagley clan.)
It is very likely that a change in scenery, or a change in coaching techniques, may draw Keegan out of the doldrums and allow him to develop into a complete player and All-Star that many of us see (or saw) in his future. Hopefully, the development is on a Kings team. But if not, I wish him well wherever he plays.

Fran is known for coaching his players super hard. Keegan himself has said it doesn’t matter how hard Mike coaches him because he played under the intensity of McCaffery. In fact, that’s at least part of the reason 2 of Fran’s own sons are with Butler (one transferred) and one who is a 4 star player in hs signed a letter of intent.
Keegan is now shooting almost 40 percent from 3 in December while playing awesome defense. If he does that all year that’s a win even if we want more. He still struggles with consistent aggressiveness which was a knock on him pre-draft

There is productive hard coaching and, on the other hand, there is destructive hard coaching. The outcome is vastly different and is obvious.

Keegan is only a problem if the organization actually thought of him as a franchise player. I think the moves Monte has made clearly show that wasn't the case. If they did you don't sign DeRozan and keep Keegan at a role player level offensively in relation to opportunity.
Serious question to the OP. Do you like a single Kings player? Every thread you start is about how player X on the Kings is a loaer, worthless and sucks.

Sure, it’s a more extreme way to say what a handful of people already say or think … just because the words used have a heavier negative connotation than most would usually say doesn’t mean there isn’t a talking point there.
Except he's just wrong. Keegans shooting has been poor (regressing positively in dec, fwiw) but, he's developed into an elite defender and a good rebounder. Does the offense develop fuether? Maybe, maybe not, but to say he's not a contributor is just ****ing stupid. He's been a starting level contributor since day .

Damn, ripping Keegan Murray who has been 1000% outstanding defensively is something. All I know is whenever Brown has asked Keegan to improve on something or they need something from him….defense, rebounding, etc…..Keegan has delivered. Weird how Brown has stifled Murray…..not. Ridiculous.

I feel like Keegan should only play SF position. He's a little soft sometimes for PF. We need an intimidate in the middle to help Sabonis. So, if we move him to SF, then DeRozan need to be SG. And if that doesn't work...then trade him for a better player? OR for someone that actually playing better at PF?

Even if Keegan never becomes the borderline all star, premier 3&D player we all hope he would become, he's still a very good perimeter defender who still is capable of having a big night every now and then. He is exactly the type of guy winning teams try and fill their rosters out with and if we are trading him just to trade him we aren't going to get a more useful player back. Trading Fox after 8 years because he wants a better shot at competing is an understandable move. Trading Keegan just because is a Kangz move.
Is there any player in the league who is expected to guard the other team's best player at positions 1-4 and also score 20+ ppg and shoot the ball at an elite rate from behind the arc? If Keegan manages to put all of that together at once he won't just be the best player on the team, he should be in the MVP conversation.
At this point he's mostly become a stand in the corner guy on offense but that's mostly how he was used in his rookie year too when Barnes had a bigger role in the offense. I still suspect the best version of this team is with Keon starting at the 2, Keegan back at the 3 and Monte trading for another forward to take Barnes' old role as a floor spacer and defender. That means more plays run for Keegan to get him open looks off handoffs or pick and rolls and a lot more firepower on the bench with Monk and DeRozan both coming in to the game with the green light. It takes patience to get us there though and it would appear that patience is in short supply these days.
If this is really the end of the line for Fox now that we're (gasp!) 3 games under .500 (I can't possibly roll my eyes any harder here, but the deluge of internet generated paranoia is hard to ignore) -- than the clear direction in my mind becomes building the team around Keon, Keegan, and Sabonis and trying to find a new PG and PF/C to compliment them.

It's not just Keegan's 3pt shooting regression, the guy can't even make little 5 ft shot in the lane. Must brick 80% such easy shots. Worst finisher in the paint on the Kings among starters. It seems like freezes up every time instead of scoring little gimmie - unlike Fox who very rarely misses his opportunities anywhere around the rim.

Keegan was flashing like crazy. Summer league dominance, rookie 3 record, a scoring high of 47, amazing defense.
I don't know what happened with the horrible regression this season, but hopefully he figures it out and isn't mentally broken forever. His open 3pt percentage is.... concerning.

Keegan's performance has been inconsistent since Barnes left. This is likely because Keegan has had to shoulder more responsibilities in Barnes' absence.
Keegan is still a valuable member of the team, He is still growing. We still need him.

Keegan is a good defender but by no means he is a nasty defensive stopper whose offensive inconsistency can be tolerated at the 4 position. I'll take his rookie year performance over anything he is providing defensively today.

He averaged 12 points a game as a rookie and played typical bad rookie defense. We are already a top ten offense we would be terrible defensively if we went back to his rookie defense.
