Petrie is cooking up something big and i can just sense it. What exactly is he going to do i don't know but one thing i do know is that the signing of Mikki Moore will NOT be the highlight of this offseason. What do Yi think?:D

I fear Mikki Moore could be as good as it gets. I just don't think Petrie has enough attractive pieces to make a significant deal.

We were saying the same thing when we signed John Salmons last season. Pick up undrafted leftover.. check. Pick up middling free agent for mid-level.. check.. seems like all Petrie does every year. I'll be pleasantly surprised if he pulls anything else off.

I think its more likely that he just hasn't seen been able to work any deals in which we come out winners. We know that there have been talks about moving both Artest and Bibby. It's not like he doesn't want to, but he's not going to take a bad deal out of deperation.

If we have to start next year with the same mediocre lineup, that might be just as good a re-building effort as trading what we do have for peanuts in an effort to shake things up. If we have to wait until Bibby, Artest, Miller and KT are free agents, maybe thats what we have to do. It's more likely that a better deal will come along in the meantime. Re-building means being patient.

As far as the Maloof conspiracies go, I think it is interesting that we all seem to attribute any action that we like to Petrie, and any action that we don't like to the evil puppetmaster Maloofs. It reminds me of how we think of God and the devil. If anything good happens, God did it. If anything bad happens, well, it had to be the devil. Simply duality is much easier to stomache than accepting that life, like the NBA, is complex, or worse, that we don't know what's going on.

Like I've been saying for awhile now, I think this is about all we're gonna get this year in the way of moves...and quite possibly next year too...it's a dry FA market...but in 2 years, we'll have a bunch of money, and with guys like Brand and Boozer(just to name a couple)that should be when Petrie will be ready to pounce. With the young nucleus of guys we have now...add a couple more lottery picks and a couple more decent free agents...hopefully we'll be the new Utah by 09'-10'. But what the hay...that's too smart, and we never know when Joe and Gavin might be in a 'gambling' mood...stay tuned, I guess.

In two years we will NOT have that much money. That was a simple, and poor, mistake by the Bee. If we want to have money in two years, we have to find soem way to make moves. Perhaps trade Petrie or put him on furlough for a month or two in Jamaica.

Salaries summer of 08-09 if nothing at all happened:

Miller $12.25mil
Martin $10.0mil (est -- could be higher, this will be year 2)
Thomas $8.55mil
Abdur Rahim $6.60mil
Moore $3.0mil (est -- assuming we waive him, otherwise $6mil est.)
Salmons $5.46mil
Hawes $2.33mil
08 1st rnd pick $2.25mil (est)
09 1st rnd pick $2.00mil (est)
Douby $2.20mil
Cisco $2.89mil (qualifying offer -- likely more to resign him)
-------------------------
$57.53mil (est cap that year = maybe $57mil?)

Sitting on our asses just doesn't get it done in that time frame. It will finally by merely the summer of 2010 (assumign we don't make anymore stupid signigngs by then). But frankly, you, I, or any other member of this board would be perfectly happy to go sit on our own fat asses in Geoff's office and munch Oreos for the next 3 years at half Geoff's salary if the "plan" is to just to sit and do nothing until the next decade -- unless we find another juicy MLE veteran to sign of course.

What about the year after that? Anybody coming off THAT year?

Yes, that's the year -- summer of 2010 (!) when we would finaly get relief with the sit on our asses plan. Kenny, Reef and Brad, as well as that stupid Mikki thing, would all finally slough off. Of course, you would then have Cisco (if you had kept him) on a real contract, and it would be time for Hawes to get his real money. Crap -- forgot to add Justin into either of those calcualtions.

In any case, you'd dump $30mil in worthless old bigs in 2010. Woohoo! Only three loooong years to wait!

My bad, I actually meant to say in THREE years in my last post...as I stated, by 09'-10'. So if we can build on something in 3 years, that would be an accomplishment.

Don't think any BIG deal is coming down. I think we are close to being pat save for a good distributing PG backup. Otherwise, we may have seen the last move of any consequence. Talking with an ex-kings staffer he too does not hear anything on the grapevine.

Bibby/Price/Shakur
Martin/Salmons/Douby
Artest/Garcia/Caner-Medley
Miller/Moore/Hawes
SAR/Watkins/Williams/Thomas/

Thats 16 from which they can carry 15 but only 13 active.

But I think Coach Theus will be a 300% increase over Muss and that the guys will PLAY for Theus and that Theus will use them as they should. A few may not like it (KT, SAR, Miller) but that coud be the way it is.

Well it may be quiet but that doesnt mean anything either way, Im pretty sure that we are standing pat for the most part other than getting a point guard like Dee Brown or something. Im excited to see Hawes some more and Jusin williams develop as well, I agree that theus is a big step up from muss and anyone would have been.

Looks like we will have to eat the contracts of bibby, thomas and brad until they expire/hopefully mike opting out after this season. :(

i have a eerie feeling there won't be anymore moves this offseason.. poss. something by the trade deadline.. hopefully move some of our junk midlevel contracts..

None of the recent signings have stirred any sort of excitement whatsoever about the upcoming season. Same owners. Same GM. Is it Geoff going braindead in his abilitys to put together ANYTHING or have the maloofs instituted their ability to veto any deal that they don't think is right for the team. Something is going on. These recent deals seem so boneheaded. Either Petrie has gone off his rocker or lightning struck petrie when he put this team together in 1999. Maybe he isnt as smart as we all think he is.

i think the maloofs are playing a bigger role in the decision making. they (maloofs) interviewed theuss in the 2nd interview w/o petrie and hired him after the interview.

Maybe petrie wasnt there because he was scouting for an important draft and already interviewed theus before that day. Who knows...maybe the second interview was just to get more of a feel for him and to discuss what the contract would look like. People are getting carried away here, mikke moore will be here two years at the most and that will give hawes time until hes ready to start not to mention the fact that other huge contracts expire around the same time.

It seems like we arent going to be able to trade our huge contracts so the next best thing to do is to be patient until they do expire while adding young players at the same time. Its just not realistic to blow up an entire team in one offseason especially when no one wants what you have.

I think we have some players that other teams want. They just don't want to give us what their worth. The situation were in right now is similar to the one we were in when Petri first came here. We had huge contracts on the books and had no cap space. I beleive it took three years before we had cap space, and then, Petri put together the team we all loved.

The main difference between then and now, is that we were used to losing then, and anything he did that seemed positive we were OK with. Now were all spoiled with winning. We expect overnight miracles. Not going to happen. I wish it would, but I have to be realistic.
As far as the Maloff's running everything. I doubt it. Petri would have no trouble finding another job. He is highly respected around the league if not on this board. I think he would walk if the Maloff's tried to interfere with every deal he was making. I could be wrong. Just my opinion. Remember, he almost walked before with Thomas.

If Bibby and Miller can rebound and play up to there capabilities, they may be ok this year....but really, we need Bibby to play at a high level so that he becomes desirable to another team.

#25
Well, Bibby has been appealing to other teams already - Miami, Cleveland, and LA. From February-this month, as publicized. Various conflicts have stalled and/or stopped those, though.

And now, things have been taken down a level by Geoff, as far as moving Mike. Compared to how it was before a week ago or so. Still not the situation where Artest's likelyhood of moving, and value is, though. As evidenced by what's been said and gone on since the draft has been over.

I doubt we see anything big happen until MAYBE the deadline and only if the players we are trying to deal increase their value under Theus. Othwerwise best we can hope for is maybe SAR getting dealt once his knee heals.
