It's important to build a fraternity

Vlade4GM

All-Star
I think it's very important that we bring back guys like Vlade, C-Webb, etc. if we're going to start really giving our franchise a consistent image and become a place that players will be open to going to. It's good for keeping players and attracting outside players to come here if they know there is a future in the organization and there is also a history of players that liked it and they can talk to and ask about their experiences. Maybe this all goes without saying, but I hope the org. is working on creating pseudo-fraternity of former players. Giving them positions on some level if they're interested and fit for the job. I think bringing back Webber is the most important of all because he was a widely known star and a potential hall of famer.

Webber would like to work for the Kings organization. The ball is in the Maloof's or Petrie's hands on that.

In an interview after Vlade's jersey retirement, Petrie said that Vlade has a standing open invitation to work for the Kings, but he's pretty busy helping his country these days.

Vlade also said he'd like to work with the Kings once his children start college, they will be attending college in the U.S. so Vlade will be back then...I read that somewhere, can't recall.

That's definitely a great idea. Would really help raise the Kings "brand equity" within the NBA.

I'm liking that Rubio avatar Jechtsphere!

Webber might make a good contribution, but I don't really see the point in hiring any other players from the glory years just for the sake of comradery. Our current roster has to build its own sense of fraternity, and members of our 61-win team would not be doing any good by looking over the shoulder of this 65-loss team. I say we move on and focus on the present.

Yeah, Vlade was the only one in his family that liked the city of Sacramento. It would be a long shot for him to join the origination, but once his kids are in college who knows

It would be nice to have some of the past kings back here passing on their experience and knowledge to the young guys. But one acquisition I really want is Doung Christie added to the coaching staff. We not only need him here to teach, but he has stated publicly that he would be open to joining the organization in some fashion. Bring him in Petrie!

I respectfully disagree. Webber and Vlade represent a tradition of winning and stability. They're also respected by everyone around the league for what they've done on the court as well as off the court. They would be a positive influence on the young players, as well as a recognizable face for the franchise.

Where did you get the info that Vlade was the only one in his family to like Sacramento. I have never heard that. I know that he owns a resturant in Sac, so he does have financial interests there. I know that the Maloof's have a standing invitation for him to join the organization and I have also heart the Vlade seemed open to doing so. But as stated earlier, he would wait for his kids to start school here in the United States.

That's not what I thought Vlade4GM meant. I thought he meant that having them in the organization would enhance the image and "comraderie" of the franchise, especially in terms of reaching out to players to encourage them to come to the Kings as a destination team.

I think it does enhance the presence of the team to have players, especially winning, admired players, still involved in an organization. It means they must like the organization and think it's a worthwhile place to work, even after their playing days.

Vlade would be great at adding interest from European and other foreign players while Webber would be great at adding interest from all players, largely from U.S.

Webber is looking for a PR gig. And, I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't looking for any money in the deal.

Vlade spent time with JT & Spence in his free time during the week of his number being retired. Both JT & Spence spoke highly of their time with Vlade. Vlade's kids, I'm sure, have been well coached by their father, but when they go off to college I doubt his aid will be needed. So the question will be, "Does he want to be around to watch them play, or Will the desire to coach be strong enough for him to take a assistant coaching job?". And, what are Vlade's plans for the future, retirement or head coaching at some level perhaps?

Byron Scott with Vlade as assistant & big men's coach along with coachie as a consultant, doesn't seem like a bad idea too me.

That sounds nice, but I really think that sort of thing is overrated when it comes to attracting players.
History means nothing to players unless you're the Lakers or Celtics. Even then, that's way down the list.

That would be a successful short-term fix for attracting fans, though.

They referred to it as his when he was here for the jersey retirement...and I'm pretty sure that's where the after-party was held.

They did have the after party there, but I think it was for nostalgia.

I've met the guy who owns it now, some of my former co-workers are good friends of his, and we had our company Christmas party there last year.

One thing I was disappointed with was how Corliss went out. I would have liked the team to offer him a coaching or development position, and guys like that are needed to show the young players some class and how to be a real pro. Plus, he's proven since he has a ring from Detroit as the 6th man.

I really don't care much about having Vlade, Chris, or Doug here to attract more players. That will come with winning. But I would love to have any/all of them here to teach our young guys. To me, that is much more important at this point. If JT and Hawes could come close to resembling Vlade and Chris in a few years, Kevin improves his all-around game, and we bring along some successful draft picks, this team will be headed in the right direction and players will want to come here again.

If we had a coach of an Avery Johnson or Van Gundy status, and Webber or Vlade here tutoring JT and Hawes, just imagine how much they would improve. And I love the idea of bringing Doug in here to show our wings, especially Kevin, how to play solid nba defense.

There are options, and the players I've mentioned have all said they are interested in working for the Kings again. Lets pray Geoff and the Maloofs make some good decisions this time around.

We had a few mutual friends. I guess I shouldn't say that Vlade was the only one who liked sac, but I know for a fact that his kids missed LA.
